  1. Hey WaldFried! I think you might have a better chance if you tried on the discord server, not sure how often the modder community checks threads like this one.
  2. the propick only show the "chance" of stuff beeing there. it's completly possible that the chunk is empty. you could mine all but 3 blocks and the bedrock and the propick would still say the same (if i understood the explanation from the youtube video correctly)
  3. well sorry, shingles are also an skin disease so i think i still picked the better one. As for building Signs, i think there should be a mod with some allready. I don't think they will come soon inside the main game as there is literally heaps and mountains of stuff thats waiting for implementation and "shingles" are probably low priority. In case you didn't know, Vintage Story is for the most part done by 2 people (Tyron doing the programming and Saraty doing the textures) So it takes some time for stuff to get implemented.
  4. I can't really tell you much as i would spoiler you, but there is a reason drifters only drop the things they drop. adding leather or fat would go against the lore as the skin they have should not be able to be used as leather and drom what i know they are actually really skinny and have no fat on them that they could drop. While the idea doesn't work in the base game it's another story if you add it with a mod. If you are asking what kinda lore i mean, you can find books and scrolls in underground ruins and at some traders. As for the carcasses... hmm difficult as every animal only drops 1 pelt and an allready half eaten carcass wouldn't have a full one. I also think that people used to burn or bury such carcasses as they are a source of diseases. There might be other reasons as well but i don't think carcasses are a good source for ressources, both IRL and ingame.
  5. ok just checked, there is 4 colors of shingle blocks ingame atm, 2 of those are craftable. You can form shingles out of clay and burn em in the firepit. you can at least view em in the handbook (press H) under "shingle"
  6. Hey Gazz! The moment you started your first game there was a nice little window sending you here because some things are a bit hard to figure out and the ingame help isn't fleshed out yet. As for your suggestion to change the firepit creation... Vintage Storys main charmpoint is realism (well as much realism as you will get in a world made out of blocks with temporal storms and creepy things that wanny eat you at night and in caves) As such, the pitfire is allready dumbed down a bit as you don't need to make a hole and line it with stones to avoid the fire spreading and once it's placed you can restart it without new kindle and without feeding some sticks before you can go to firewood. But starting a fire right from sticks and with no firestarter like a torch or some petrol is just about impossible, you need that kindle. And thats why you need dry grass. I can see future gamemodes called "realistic survival" where firewood and gras actually needs to be "dry" before you can use it. Ohh and just saying, rubbing two sticks together till they burn? that hardly ever works and when it does it takes literally tens of minutes nonstop rubbing. And even then the fire will simply go out without kindling So yeah, Vintage story is not beginner friendly, and even less for those who ignore the beginner guide, but it's intended to be that hard. So if you don't wanna read any guides or outside help thats totally fine, but you gotta accept that there are some things you simply won't know about. Just a little heads up, you should start reading the beginners guide if you want to advance to the copper age anytime soon as getting copper ore (or any kind of ore really) is far harder than making a pitfire. And for the closing words, I ain't talking down on you, i totally respect your way of playing and i do think that it would be fun in a way. It's just that changing a game mechanic thats in the game for a long time and that has proven to be good for most of the community probably won't happen, and I simply tried to give you the reasons. Might be my choice of words wasn't the nicest, but i prefer beeing honest and direct over handling people with silkgloves. I hope this answer will help or at least not ruffle your jimmies in a bad way, wish you a lot of fun with the game and feel free to ask questions if you have any!
  7. as for books and paper, i do think they will come later down the road. Shingles do allready exist in the game, although i'm not sure you can get all of em outside creativ mode. (which should be no problem for an server admin)
  8. As for now, traders are allways alone afaik. I certainly would love to see NPC citys and quests introduced at some point as it is kinda strange for so many traders to exist but only you buy something from them.
  9. just found tin and iron in a cave, theres only 3 problems. the cave is a labyrinth far worse than anything i have ever seen in minecraft. it's almost overrun with tainted drifters. and my temporal stability makes a damn nosedive inside it. finding the tin was most likely pure luck, i was only seeing one deposit in a wall and i got nuked while trying to make a waypoint so hard to say if i can find it again. the only good thing is that i didn't take anything with me except some dirt and a torch for the exploration, so at least i didn't lose anything.
  10. yeah, but i think using the cooking pot for that would be the best solution. having even more items would just add clutter that needs storage space. (and we allready have a lot that needs storage space if you hoard like i do)
  11. I agree, the reset to 0 should be the best solution (saving the numbers per block would be impossible after all)

  13. Yeah that sounds like a problem, but rain is kinda important since it waters fields etc. and so i think an option for people with epilepsy that disables certain effects (just the visuals not the effects themselves) might be a good way to go about it. weather will hardly be the only thing that might cause trouble, if not now then maybe later. It would also be a good idea to make it known how to add effects to the list for modders so they can make their own stuff affected by that option too.
  14. 1. Stick fences are indeed an idea i would endorse. maybe 3-6 sticks and 1-2 rope per piece? (needs to be kinda expensive else the other fence would lose it's meaning) Primitive walls and roofs allready exist, cobblestone aint hard to make or gather from ruins and i'm using hayblocks as a roof which is essentially the same as a thatch roof. as for gates... well yeah thats kinda tricky since real gates are something that came only later on i think, they used to block the "doorway" with something instead of a real door i think. Here Hayblocks are again a good way since you can harvest em in a flash even without a tool. 2. I kinda? agree since i do think we need a way to transport water for cooking earlier than it takes to get a saw and make a bucket. but i do think that maybe beeing able to fill the pot itself with water should be the solution to the problem as you could use water for cooking just like that and if you want water for something different you would need an bucket.
  15. Hey fellow Vintarians! So after the last couple days i kinda noticed that a lot of suggestions have either allready been made, are allready on the roadmap, or in the case of a few, are even allready in the game. I think a System where you have the Roadmap on top and the made suggestions right below would give people an idea what kinda ideas allready exist. Maybe even an endorsement system to see how popular those ideas are? Another section with rejected ideas and the reason for said rejection (not popular with the community, not fitting into the setting or simply not possible to implement.) would also give people an overview of what will never be in the game, outside of mods that is. (and might motivate some of 'em to make said mod) Another thing that might not be necessary but quite nice would be a credit section where all modders are listed that made a mod that got completely or at least partially integrated into the main game. To be fair, I only bought the game recently and as such I've only been on this forum for a relativly short amount of time, so maybe all of this is not necessary and after some time people get an fast idea of all that stuff. Then again i do think that most good ideas come from 2 groups of people, the ones who allready play this game for a long time and have a sudden burst of inspiration, and the ones who just started and can provide a fresh view on things that has become routine for the veterans among us. I think this would encourage the second group to make an suggestion (as in "Hey! nobody had that idea yet?") While I included a poll here, it's more of an overview on what people think about this suggestion and not some kinda vote. The last thing I want is to add work for the Moderators and Admins. I just want them to know if people would want it if they themselves think that it is a good idea.
  16. Hey Goliathon! First of all, I think you might be interested in the Roadmap so here you go! Now a bit more of my personal view. While i do agree with you on a lot of points, i can't say i like it overall. It just seems you want Vintage Story to be like minecraft with mods like Kitti allready mentioned. I like Vintage Story, and i like that it feels very different from Minecraft, so althought some of your ideas strike my fancy I can't say i would like ALL of it implemented.
  17. yeah same here, found 3 meteorites. still laking a bronze pickaxe to farm the iron necessary to harvest them though since you need an iron pick to harvest them
  18. there is a timer for time played inside your world but not one for overall time played i think.
  19. rabbits can spawn in on earthblocks growing grass iirc. is your base free of it?
  20. you can increase the amount of tin found in surface depots over the settings if it's too much of a problem looking for it, same goes for copper. I too only managed to get 16 nuggets which is just enough for an anvil, so i gotta look for enough to make a bronze pickaxe to get ironore. Just as a little help, you can get tin out of (Ore) Urns in ruins although it takes luck. and i'm not really sure about that but i think you can try panning (more to that in the starter page in the wiki here)
  21. yeah, or you could use those few seconds to look up. It's on the top of the screen so it's out of sight and you can just give a quick look when necessary. I don't see why people would stop moving for a few seconds instead of moving their eyes a bit but i guess people have different oppinions on that. But at least from my experience with the game until now i would say that the current system works better. If it's just that you don't want to see it at all unless you really want it to (which is quite often the case once you start paying attention to rock biomes) you could allways just use the hotkey. Don't mean to talk down on you, just giving my honest oppinion on the topic.
  22. Hey Javajoe, In case you continue to play anyways, mind looking if the sound stops after a few ingame days? it would be interesting to see if it is still working and just the smoke is gone or if it is finished but the sound keeps going.
  23. i do think they respawn and i also think thats ok. it's not like a single person with a spear can drive the whole wildlife to extinction. and there is also benefits for domestication so breeding your own pigs/sheep/chicken is something you might wanna work on lategame.
  24. Hey Elwood, Compost allready exists, it is slightly inferior to terra petra (the best soil ingame) and i think soil recovers over time so making multiple fields and using a four-field system should be enough. I think fruit trees might get into the game and so i'm for the implementation of olive trees as an alternative for oil. I agree on the feathers from tree branches. faux-leather (or using a different crafting methode for stuff it's used in) would be ok in a mod. uhhm thats.... i think they should be really hard to get as getting them normally is allready rather difficult so i don't know if that way would be fine. The MC mod introduces a whole new system for crafting jute as an alternative for leather (gotta farm it bundle it up and submerge it underwater for some time etc.) so that part would take some time actually, which is why i linked him to the community-ressources-libary project that someone else started so that he maybe could get some help there.
