So, I've no idea what is going on but I stored up a ton of food for the winter in crocks, only to discover that half of it spoiled as soon as I touched it.  For example, one crock pot/jar said it had 20 days left, but as soon as I picked it up it was spoiled.  I went through and "touched" the rest of my supply to see half the food turned into rot and the other half with very little time remaining other than the sealed crocks.  However, the sealed crocks first said like "2.2 years" or something but when I touched them they turned to "1.3 years".

What is going on?  Is this a bug?

Ah ha!  That explains as the other pot had some raw stuff in it.  I wouldn't mind hopping to the RC 2 version assuming it isn't super risky.  I figure being an RC it's pretty safe?

Ive been running RC2 on windows for a few days after i had a run-in with the same bug and i havent had any issues with it. Guess you could just backup your world if you want to be on the safer side of things when changing versions

v 1.19.8
I just cooked some meat + carrot stew (6+6+6+6)
Put it crocks on a shelf in the basement. But it says spoiling. Not preserving... Is this the same bug?

Are you sure that the game recognizes that place as a cellar? Had seen this happening to one of the youtubers I watch, turned out the cellar wasn't actually a cellar due to wrong type of doors (or chiseled blocks, not sure as it was quite a while ago).

I agree with Thorfinn. Check if the room you are storing your food in is registered as a cellar. I only had one case of a crock with spoiled food, when the rest were good for over 200 days. and that was because I used some berries that i didnt realise was spoiled when I selected them to cook meals.

I have the bug aswell on a 1.20.7 server. We had sealed crooks in a cellar, stored for a whole year. When we took them with us on our boat tour, they hat 29 days in our inventories (all good so far). When we took a portion out of the sealed crooks, it spoiled instantly.

Must be something to do with the cellar mechanics. If food in a sealed crock stays fresh for 20 days in your inven, and you kept it in a cellar (that has it good for a year), and you store it for lets say 30 days. Taking it with you on your trip, and it says 20 days fresh. If that is how you ran into that food spoilage problem (and you were absolutely sure your individual ingredients were not spoiled), then I would say you found a definate bug somewhere.

Havent had that problem yet, then again all my food is kept in my cellar full time, and I teleport using xcore whenever I need to get food.

Welcome to the forums, @Lava Lamp!

I'd repeat @JAGIELSKI's question. Are you absolutely certain it is registered as a cellar?

As much of a cellar as there ever could be. A 3^3 space surrounded by cobble and a solid door (the kind made from wooden boards). It happened over winter, too.

I seem to be having this problem too and i believe i'm playing on either 1.21 or 1.22. I have food in crocks that yesterday in game said 90 days and this morning they're 30% spoiled. None of my other crocks are doing this at the moment, but i have had food instantly spoiling when i unseal it even if it had said not seconds ago 1.2 years.

I've double checked that my cellar reads as a proper cellar and it does. its barely spring now so that shoudln't be causing things like this to happen.

First off, welcome to the forums!

Do note that unsealed crocks don't have the same shelf life as sealed ones. Likewise, the player inventory spoilage rate is static, and does not take the ambient temperature or room calculations into account.

That being said, a crock that still had 90 days left on it before unsealing shouldn't be spoiling after a few in-game hours. Is this a singleplayer game, or a multiplayer one? Are you using any mods, or is it the vanilla game that is having this issue? The only other thing I can think of that may be a factor is if you used spoiling ingredients to create whatever was in the crock, it will affect the shelf life, but in that case it should be reading as spoiled, not "fresh for X days".

hi! thanks you for the welcome. I know unsealed doesn't last as long but i usually have 5 days or so that i can read when i unseal a meal.

It's single player and vanilla! i'm too intimidated by all the official mods to even try any of that yet. I know it wasn't spoiled ingredients. I made those crocks maybe... a month ago in game with crops that had more than 70 days left. the spelt itself was good for another year. I seal the crocks as soon as i can pull the food into them.

and by checking for the cellar: i was doing the room debug (to ensure it reads as a room) as well as looking at the spoilage rate (.26x) as well as room size (7Lx7Wx4H) based on what the wiki told me. It's all stone/cobblestone with 2 blocks between the roof and open air. though half my cellar is under my workshop.

I logged out to check and my world was made with 1.21.6.

I'm fairly certain this is a bug, but i wanted to check here before i made a report on github or anything.

Current server I am on, I never ran into that bug. Did have an annoying problem with my kitchen (that doubles as a cellar). When I added an extra room, I somehow missed an open block in a corner that I didnt see, and it ruined the kitchen/cellar. I thought it was a bug somewhere, and sealed off the upper floor from the kitchen. Wasnt until much later (2 ingame years later), that I realised the upper floor wasnt complete.
