Locklear Posted June 25, 2023 Report Posted June 25, 2023 So, I've no idea what is going on but I stored up a ton of food for the winter in crocks, only to discover that half of it spoiled as soon as I touched it. For example, one crock pot/jar said it had 20 days left, but as soon as I picked it up it was spoiled. I went through and "touched" the rest of my supply to see half the food turned into rot and the other half with very little time remaining other than the sealed crocks. However, the sealed crocks first said like "2.2 years" or something but when I touched them they turned to "1.3 years". What is going on? Is this a bug?
Echo Weaver Posted June 26, 2023 Report Posted June 26, 2023 What version are you running? There was a bug that sounds like this, but it's fixed in the most recent release.
Locklear Posted June 26, 2023 Author Report Posted June 26, 2023 Looks like version 1.18.5, is that the latest one?
Bossman Posted June 26, 2023 Report Posted June 26, 2023 That's the latest stable release, 1.18.6 is currently on release candidate 2 with the fix for that bug.
lazula Posted June 26, 2023 Report Posted June 26, 2023 If you want to stay on 1.18.5, you can work around the bug by avoiding shelves and ground storage in cellars. Put cooked meals inside a basket/vessel/chest alongside at least one raw food item like a piece of grain or a vegetable. source: https://github.com/anegostudios/VintageStory-Issues/issues/2755#issuecomment-1555953678
Locklear Posted June 26, 2023 Author Report Posted June 26, 2023 Ah ha! That explains as the other pot had some raw stuff in it. I wouldn't mind hopping to the RC 2 version assuming it isn't super risky. I figure being an RC it's pretty safe?

Ive been running RC2 on windows for a few days after i had a run-in with the same bug and i havent had any issues with it. Guess you could just backup your world if you want to be on the safer side of things when changing versions
AnomynousX Posted December 21, 2024 Report Posted December 21, 2024 (edited) v 1.19.8 I just cooked some meat + carrot stew (6+6+6+6) Put it crocks on a shelf in the basement. But it says spoiling. Not preserving... Is this the same bug? Edited December 21, 2024 by AnomynousX
Wilczurrr Posted January 1, 2025 Report Posted January 1, 2025 Same thing happened to me, I'm on 1.19.8 as well. Half of newly cooked food in crocks randomly spoiled when put on the shelf.
JAGIELSKI Posted January 1, 2025 Report Posted January 1, 2025 Are you sure that the game recognizes that place as a cellar? Had seen this happening to one of the youtubers I watch, turned out the cellar wasn't actually a cellar due to wrong type of doors (or chiseled blocks, not sure as it was quite a while ago). 1
Lava Lamp Posted March 21, 2025 Report Posted March 21, 2025 (1.20.5) The bug seems to be back a friend's server that I'm playing in.
Thorfinn Posted March 22, 2025 Report Posted March 22, 2025 Welcome to the forums, @Lava Lamp! I'd repeat @JAGIELSKI's question. Are you absolutely certain it is registered as a cellar?
Dilan Rona Posted March 22, 2025 Report Posted March 22, 2025 I agree with Thorfinn. Check if the room you are storing your food in is registered as a cellar. I only had one case of a crock with spoiled food, when the rest were good for over 200 days. and that was because I used some berries that i didnt realise was spoiled when I selected them to cook meals.
Sceptical Seal Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 I have the bug aswell on a 1.20.7 server. We had sealed crooks in a cellar, stored for a whole year. When we took them with us on our boat tour, they hat 29 days in our inventories (all good so far). When we took a portion out of the sealed crooks, it spoiled instantly.
xXx_Ape_xXx Posted April 4, 2025 Report Posted April 4, 2025 Same is happening on our mp server, sealed crocks, take a portion and it spoils instantly, but not always
Dilan Rona Posted April 5, 2025 Report Posted April 5, 2025 Must be something to do with the cellar mechanics. If food in a sealed crock stays fresh for 20 days in your inven, and you kept it in a cellar (that has it good for a year), and you store it for lets say 30 days. Taking it with you on your trip, and it says 20 days fresh. If that is how you ran into that food spoilage problem (and you were absolutely sure your individual ingredients were not spoiled), then I would say you found a definate bug somewhere. Havent had that problem yet, then again all my food is kept in my cellar full time, and I teleport using xcore whenever I need to get food.

Are you absolutely certain it is registered as a cellar? As much of a cellar as there ever could be. A 3^3 space surrounded by cobble and a solid door (the kind made from wooden boards). It happened over winter, too.
