AnniPicto Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 We played for a long time without mods. The game is amazing without them. But in the lives of many players, one thing happens. "Oh, I'll install only one mod, I like absolutely everything in the game except this one:..." But the next day you try another mod. And then another. They are so easy to install... And now you have 20 or 50 of them in your "mods" folder What was the first mod you installed? For us, it was https://mods.vintagestory.at/immersivecorpsedrop 1
Dark Thoughts Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 No idea what the first one was. I'm pretty sure when I decided to use mods I added several already, and now I'm at about ~150.
Zane Mordien Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 Hud clock mod was my first and I always use it. I'm pretty minimalistic on mods in general after that.
Broccoli Clock Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 I'll probably write a mod before I end up using one. I have an idea for that mod, and I can code C#. I've been reading the docs about making mods for the game, it's just a matter of properly sitting down and doing it.
Maelstrom Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 Carry Capacity (now Carry On) was my first mod. But it was followed very quickly with HUDclock, Volumetric Shading and Fancy Skies. I don't like many content mods a they tend to make the game easier and I thrive on the difficulty, so most of my mods are QoL mods like Fixed Firepits, Resin on all sides, etc. The few content mods I have are to save time doing things (primarily the Quarry mod) since my gaming time is pretty small.
Thorfinn Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 Probably StepUp. For a long time, that made every modlist I played, until I learned that jumping is faster than stepping up, and lets you evade even faster creatures that instead step up.
Cetasaya Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 First One was Primitve Survival cause it is #1 in most downloaded. Barely see anything from it (mostly snakes and crabs) and dont fish or use anything from it really... Will likely axe it for any new worlds but I cant now since it'll probably break something or spawn a bunch of those question blocks. Favorite mod is easily QP Chisel Tools, and a close second is Stone Quarry then I got Plains and Valleys, Prospecting Together and another prospecting mod. Those are the only I really notice consistently or remember right now. Im VERY light on mods cause theyre a nightmare for stability, saves, ect. and this game is updated very quickly. In fact even with my very short list it needs to be trimmed. IMO Vintage Story is excellent without mods and almost all of them ruin the balance or add stuff I neither need nor want. I've learned my lessons on mods from my Rimworld obsession. I got dozens if not hundreds of mods there and it's far more trouble than its worth. 1
Maelstrom Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 I like StepUp for ascending large hills. It's quickest if you go slightly diagonal to the blocks which is much faster than jumping up each block height as well. 1

After I finish the story chapters I will add some content mods since at that point I'm past survival and into thriving.

Daev Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 First mod was the rivers mod. I kept it pretty minimal after that with simple QoL mods like Better Sticks, Carry On etc just to dwindle down some of the few things I find needlessly tedious or grindy.
7embre Posted March 14, 2025 Report Posted March 14, 2025 For me, it was CarryOn. But on a second playthrough the host decided against using it, as he deemed it OP for carrying the containers on the back. Now I only have QP's chisel tools for my personal creative stuff on a singleplayer. Generally speaking, I'm trying to stay vanilla, even when it comes to modding.
xXx_Ape_xXx Posted March 14, 2025 Report Posted March 14, 2025 Hud Clock was my first, then it just poured in with lots of different qol mods after that 1
AnniPicto Posted March 14, 2025 Author Report Posted March 14, 2025 I find it funny that your first mods became my second or third. Carry Capacity, Hud clock. Also, QP Chisel Tools and Prospecting Together mods are simply irreplaceable for me. Because I constantly decorate my house and the houses of my friends. Vanilla chisel is not enough for this. And we also take turns scouting the territory. It is important for us to be able to share information about the metals we find. Before that, we exchanged screenshots of our maps, and this requires third-party programs, which is inconvenient. We're also concerned about the update speed of some mods, but in the later stages of the game we often want something more in our travels. I try to choose mods that will not break our world when uninstalled. But It is not unacceptable for us if we get several "?" blocks. Sometimes these are cooking mods (Expanded Foods, my sister loves to cook dumplings and yogurt), Outlaw (Oh! We are very sad that it is not working now. We miss the phrases "I see you" when an aggressive squad comes out to meet you), Better ruins, or ViesCraft 1

So this has turned out to be an utter lie! I am not someone who will mod a game until I've wrung as much entertainment from vanilla as I can. However, I finally relented with a tiny QoL mod, and it was for more icons on the map. https://mods.vintagestory.at/moremapicons I did tinker with it a little (see the comment section) but yeah... that is the first mod I've used in the game. 1
