Is it possible to have a "max reading" of Decent?

I understand prospecting well, i have found copper, iron etc already.

But I found a new iron reading in a new area and the best reading is "Decent". In all directions it eventually turns to nothing.

Does that mean "Decent" is the best reading for this area?

In the image, the red box is the best reading. All other readings get worse.

Decent is great iron reading anyway. Chromite sucks.

Yeah Chromite doesn't go higher than "Poor", which sucks.

This happens frequently with iron. There's a fair chance there's a disc in there somewhere; it's worth dropping a few boreholes to check but don't be shocked if nothing turns up. Could be worse; borax almost never shows up as better than "Poor."

In the case where it's poor Borax (I found one of these), should i be digging down and searching?

You certainly can, and if you haven't found any surface bits of borax yet, you will need to eventually just to be able to make an iron anvil.

Unfortunately the borax deposits tend to be pretty small compared to other ores like zinc, tin, etc. making getting that first hit on node serach mode difficult.

Very true, but when you find that tasty little nugget of surface borax... oh, what a great feeling! I found some in minutes on my first playthrough, and didn't know what it was for. Didn't even mark it.

Fortunately, the required need for borax is as little as 3 pieces.  It would be really nice if commodities traders would sell borax.
