Hi! I did some testing in 1.20 and the generation didn't seem that forced, now it seems a bit "sterile" and not very "natural", especially the hills with canyons or these expanses of overly geometric gravel or even the swamps and how they blend in with the rest... Or the rocks like peridotite and bauxite are now really obvious and are an eyesore hahahahah

I can’t explain why, but that looks like normal terrain generation.

Yes, yes, I'm not saying there are any problems, but I don't know, this circular cut seems really ugly to me, and in general I notice that the biomes overlap a bit poorly and the transitions between them are too abrupt. For example, this, but also the problems with the swamps and how the bauxite and peridotite rock are distributed, as well as the corresponding gravels: they're an eyesore...

Well, I think the new clothes are just gorgeous! Such colours! Such quality! Such texture! And the fit, so flattering! The team has really outdone themselves.

It's a shame these other players can't see and appreciate the craftsmanship here.

Well, you guys are doing a good job regardless. My experience on Linux has been seamless thus far. I do hope you continue to remember us stubborn penguin people.

Are we gonna get some other reward for completing chapter two rather than just lore and fast travel to the last location?

the final location should now also have a treasure room that you can loot

Welp.  Now I gotta go find that command you mentioned in the 1.21.pre thread.

Genuinely, the fact that this game has a linux build that is actually a linux build and isn't just reliant on proton means it's a go to game for me. Also serves as a great way to test any new systems I put together :D

I am not sure when it was added, but the additional cooking information are very nice. It's going to help beginners a lot.

First Time poster, and I just purchased the game and I'm enjoying it very much.

I do have one quick question. I have 1.20.12 installed and I need to know are you able to have two versions installed or do I have to uninstal 1.20.12 to install this release candidate?

Cheers, and thank You.

No, you can have multiple installations.

See this guide as there is some tweaking you need to do to have a different data directory for each installation.

I imagine the final is not going to be that far off, as Tyron has said this will probably be the last RC and the only major bug I've seen is "the emperor's new clothing"

I predict this week.

Given what I've seen while lurking on Github, that bug seems to be fixed. So I wouldn't be surprised if there's a stable release sometime within the next week.

Man, I hope so. I am itching to get back to playing in this latest stable release. I generally play VS at least 4 to 5 days a week, so I've been dealing with withdrawal symptoms. 😉

I am really enjoying this update, and RC3 has been very stable.

Even being forced to play without a lot of my usual mods hasn't been so bad, and some of the mods I don't even feel are necessary anymore.

Having only really been interested in the sandbox/survival game prior, I'm even getting drawn into the lore and really looking forward to seeing more of the story unfold.

pretty sure there will be more and more Linux users as time goes on. I'm planning to switch to Linux at some point myself even.

Afaik, the X11 vs. Wayland scaling issue is about how they both deal with system DPI/display scale differently. X11 acts like Windows in that it creates the window size using the display's physical pixels. Wayland acts like macOS, where the window size is in points (NOT physical pixels), and the rendering framebuffer is scaled (using the system DPI) to the physical pixel size. This means events in X11 (and Windows) are in physical pixel space, but the events in Wayland (and macOS) are in window coordinate space, not physical pixel space. In Wayland and macOS, you would basically use the pixel density (which is dependent on the system's DPI scaling setting) to convert from window coordinates to physical pixel coordinates.
I describe a bit of this more on the Github Issue, although I'm sure there's a lot more to this issue than just what I've described: https://github.com/anegostudios/VintageStory-Issues/issues/6222#issuecomment-3170505576

Importantly, I believe this issue effects both Wayland and macOS. Although I did see they said they had a workaround for macOS, iirc.

Lastly, Wayland has an X11 compatibility layer, called XWayland. So even if they choose to stick with X11, all Wayland users will still be able to run the game, afaik.

P.S. I have no idea about the performance issues of Wayland, only the DPI scaling issues. I am a little surprised that X11 would give higher FPS than Wayland.
