The only way said void would remain dry is if the altitude of the mine exceeded the altitude of the surface of the river. There probably shouldn't be air there in the first place if the block was previously occupied by solid material. It would have to come from oxygen dissolved in the water. 1
Maelstrom Posted October 16, 2025 Report Posted October 16, 2025 I'm talking about the air above the river pushing down on the river which would then fill in the newly created void in the bank.

I could imagine digging air holes down from above, though.

"Void" isn't really a thing in this situation, though. If a cubic block of stone were to instantaneously disappear, what would follow is an immediate violent implosion as water vapor rushed to fill the vacuum. The universe can't be expected to provide cubes of 101 kPa breathable air on demand. If we're mining in a mundane situation, the result is that water and rock chunks are just moving around. Nothing unusual happens in this case. Pressure in the system only changes when the rocks leave the water. From a game mechanic perspective, it's fine to never account for the rocks leaving by either allowing water to duplicate or having it be non-source (flowing) water that depends on adjacent sources. ---- Re: Underwater Mining Pill Good news! Mongster Posted October 22, 2025 Author Report Posted October 22, 2025 I just realized we're all overthinking this and the best way to nerf underwater mining would either be to make lanterns not cast light when underwater (not put them out, but just make them ineffective) or create a proper underwater visual filter that makes it impossible to recognize anything while submerged except the bare basics. Just make it harder to see. lol

That is an extremely annoying aspect about the other block game. It makes making quick little changes underwater so much more annoying than it should be for such little things. How about instead, doing anything that would cause hunger to deplete faster while underwater, will also cause oxygen to deplete quicker. 3
