XeniousThe2nd Posted May 5 Report Posted May 5 Hello! New player here both to the Forum and to the game itself. I am not sure if this is the correct place to post but I have a question in regards to my current play session.. I died in a cave and on the way back to my body (following the map marker) I died again. The original map marker vanished and was replaced by a new one. Actually, I died quite a few times before I managed to finally find my original death spot only to find that all my stuff had vanished - is this normal? If so, that's pretty crap and how do I turn it off? Also, is there like a command where I can just teleport to my body in situations such as that (please don't judge me lol)? Thanks in advance
Rainbow Fresh Posted May 5 Report Posted May 5 (edited) Welcome to both the game and forums! That is perfectly normal, yes. Like many other block games, when you die with settings that drop your items on death, you physically drop these items. Like any other item dropped in the world, they eventually despawn. Otherwise you (or especially in multiplayer someone with malicious intent) ultimately greatly impact the game's performance. The default (I think) time for how long your death-dropped items remain is 1h (real time). You can either change this timer via world config or in-game command /worldconfig droppedItemsTimer [number] or turn it off entirely by changing the setting that makes you drop your items in the first place, or via command /worldconfig deathPunishment keep EDIT: 8 minutes ago, XeniousThe2nd said: Also, is there like a command where I can just teleport to my body in situations such as that (please don't judge me lol)? Assuming you have the in-game map enabled, you can look at the death marker and teleport to the coordinates with /tp x y z Edited May 5 by Rainbow Fresh 3
Teh Pizza Lady Posted May 5 Report Posted May 5 (edited) Hello @XeniousThe2nd, and welcome to both the forums and the game! 10 minutes ago, XeniousThe2nd said: Actually, I died quite a few times before I managed to finally find my original death spot only to find that all my stuff had vanished - is this normal? Yes, items that you drop in the world will actually despawn after 10 minutes, I believe. Other block games do this, too and are much less forgiving on the time you have to collect them once dropped. However there is hope. You can just type /tpwp [starts with name] to get to your death waymark or /gm c to hop into creative mode and fly there and then /gm s to get back into survival once you have recovered your stuff. Once in creative mode you can use F1 and F2 to increase your flying speed. Best of luck! Edited May 5 by Teh Pizza Lady 2

Welcome to the forums and the game! In addition to what others have already noted about commands, I do want to note that you don't always need a command to teleport to your last point of death either. Assuming that you're playing with lore content enabled, building the terminus teleporter will allow you to teleport back to your last point of death, for the price of one temporal gear. It's late game tech, to be sure, but could be a fun goal to work towards. 1
Byrnorthil Posted May 5 Report Posted May 5 WYT beat me to the teleporter lol. In the many hours between then and now it's totally fine to increase the item despawn timer so you don't have to feel stressed about having to get to your stuff on time. And just FYI there is a Questions board with a nice solution integration for any future help you seek out: https://www.vintagestory.at/forums/forum/6-questions/ 1 1
williams_482 Posted May 5 Report Posted May 5 If you're looking for a mod that protects items dropped on death indefinitely, I recommend the Player Corpse mod. 1
XeniousThe2nd Posted May 5 Author Report Posted May 5 Okay this is awesome (and not so awesome lol, gear gone = feels bad man). This is my first experience with block games in general, so good to know how things go. I'll turn off the timer for now I reckon.. As for the terminus teleport... yeah, I think I have a long list of 'goals to work towards' hahaha but this is now on the list I haven't looked at any Mods to be honest, however, that Player Corpse Mod looks promising! Thank you guys for the support and advice and for pointing me towards the Questions Board for future reference, this was brilliant help. Cheers and good luck 2
Thorfinn Posted May 5 Report Posted May 5 You might be left with little choice other than to either suck it up or go into creative and give your items back. But if you want to kind of do it sort of by the book, you can check your logs to see what that previous death waypoint was set to. I know, teleport isn't exactly by the book, but it seems to me it's closer than picking and choosing from creative. There is some in-game teleporting that does not rely on console, while there is not for creative. 1

I didn't know you could go into creative mode! Thanks, maybe that'll be fun at some stage but, for now, I'll build back up and hopefully figure out how to prospect for tin XD Cheers!

[added emphasis] Can't teleport to what ain't there anymore, but you can still guess roughly where the first marker was if your remember and teleport to coordinates close enough.
