I agree, it's stupid. I vomit a little in my mouth every time I work on my temporal storm cheesing base.
-
These type of threads remind me why I never run a sever. I had enough of that nonsense when I was a sever "helper" way way way back in the day.

Start with Snowball earth. It will challenge you on food your first time. I personally use the "hot start" but that isn't a great start as it is still butt cold and if you really want to challenge yourself do regular "temperate" start. Bears and wolves will start to look very tasty.

You can regenerate any area of the map you want by using the command " /wgen regen 1 ". The 1 is a radius around you of chunks you want reset to the current world generation settings. You can increase the number to reset a larger area. WARNING ACHTUNG! it nukes everything in the affected chunks. Do not do this near your base or anything you want to keep. This includes animals.

Forget what everyone says in the guides. Just use the descriptor very high, high, poor, etc... Decent is good enough of a reading to find almost any ore. Just dig straight down using ladders so you don't fall if you hit a cave. At .7 and below of sea level is where most ores start to spawn. So at default settings sea level is 110 height which equates to about 77. If you doubled world height for example it would be 154.

First question then is what mods are you running? At ultra high readings you should be hitting it with no problem. Are you digging straight down and using ladders? It should spawn around 72 world height if you didn't change world height.

About the books from the Resonance Archives... (spoiler-ish)
Zane Mordien replied to Krähenwolf's topic in Discussion
I get duplicate books all the time as a single player. You can get books from panning bony soil, loot chests, and maybe merchants. -
Awesome glad that worked.

If you do have a mod changing the terrain, disable it and then use the wgen regen command and will restore it to the default terrain generation. It will make the terrain wonky but it will be accessible.
-
That is annoying. You can also try " /wgen regen 1 " when you are at the edge if the village. That probably won't work but until Brady replies that may be worth trying. That just regens the chunks around you, and maybe the game will autofix it.

From my experience they look too dark. Oil lamps are just worthless. If you replace them with torches you might be okay in some of those rooms. I don't use any mods and typically don't have any issues in my base but I use a lot of lanterns and torch holders.
-
Panning flint sounds painful. Are you panning all the copper you need to make lanterns? No sand on the beaches in your world. I hope you are using a panning mod.
-
Nothing in the log file?
-
Welcome to the forums. 35 hrs in and no crops, ouch that's painful.
-
As long as I pick up flint as I run around in my daily travels I don't have too much of an issue, but I am always running around exploring. If you prefer to spend more time at your base building early on I could see this would be an issue. I think they should at least give you more flint when you mine it from rocks. I was disappointed to find out you just get 1-2 pieces the same as picking it up on the ground.
-
That was my problem as well. I don't think I've ever tried to live in a area that it rains all of the time. That would be pretty annoying as a new player. It would make the game seem much harder since you can't find crops anywhere unless you travel outside the area.

It's more the flax than food. There are always plenty of bears and wolves to fill up the food bar!
-
@Thorfinn Well I made a raft and got to a different area and now I have 40 flax seeds. It's June 4 so I'm behind schedule.

Wow, you dug up a 4yr old thread. They need to have an option that gives you choices on the type of world. Ie. Oceans vs default settings which give you one big landmass. I just started a world with the plan to build the boat. I hope I'm not disappointed to find out my world settings didn't generate any oceans and my boat is useless. I've never bothered with cheese for those reasons either. I've had the goats penned many times but just can't make myself make cheese. Maybe I should make that a goal of my current playthrough as well since god knows how many hours I have in this game and I've never had my dairy bar full.

I had the same problem with a moose and bear recently. They definitely screwed up the hit boxes on looting corpses with 1.20.9. I don't understand why they make it so hard to loot a corpse. It should be simply, if you can carve it up then you can loot it. Instead I can carve the body, but then I need to get closer or find the magic angle that lets me loot the body.

Is there a way to go back to an old version?
Zane Mordien replied to limpstringcheese's topic in Questions
100% use this link in the client area. You can go back to any version of VS you want. Never tried 1.18? No problem, it is there. -
Nope, you can change anything at anytime as the admin of your single player game. I don't do that often but I think for sanity next time this is what I'll do when travelling to the 2nd story location. I've done it once the hard way and that was enough. The change only affects newly spawned in chunks so anything existing will not change. /worldconfig globalForestation [-1 .. 1] Sets the global forestation offset for world generation. -1 means there will be no forests, 1 means there will be only forests, the value 0 means default forestation density (default: 0)

Just bad luck. I played a few hours on the same version and mods a couple days ago and had wild crops everywhere. I always tell people they need to look harder when they post they can't find wild crops. Now I might have to believe them. Ive got a small garden up and running but nothing like I normally have.
-
I just started a new playthrough and it is humbling me when it comes to wild crops. Normally I have 30 flax seeds by now and I have 3! I have beautiful open grasslands where normally I would be picking crops up left and right, but not this time. Just grass as far as the eye can see. No flowers either. That is at least the one thing I have noticed, where there are flowers I can usually find some wild crops but there are few areas.

The second chapter is not my favorite either. You just gave me an idea though. Next time I go to the 2nd story location I'm going to set forests to 0% (-100% or whatever you want the game calls it) and just go there at warp speed. Then when I'm there I can set them back to normal, which for me is -50%.
