  1. Either case is you cheating yourself out of a situation that you're at fault for being in to avoid the consequences of the decisions you've made.
  2. This happened to me in a cave once, and I saw someone else drop into the aquifer in the archives without powering up the lights first. At that point you might as well use /gm 2 and give yourself light.
  3. I seem to have the same issue, using all the FotsA mods, Primitive Survival, Something in the Water, and possible others I can't think of right now from the top of my head. I thought they were just rare but after testing Algernon's Watersheds I noticed they all spawn inside of those streams now, even though they're ocean / salt water creatures. The oceans however are completely devoid of any life as far as I can tell.
  4. Just as useless of an argument. It's a thread discussing this topic where people throw around ideas about what could be, so of course it's not a current state of the game thing. And as far as the game itself goes, it's early access. It's not going to be done in a long time, with many more features and content to come that's not currently part of the game - including things he may disagrees with. Pretty sure this is not the first time where he tries to be dismissive of me and others either.
  5. There aren't many and most are very low quality. Most of the ones named do clickbait titles and / or thumbnails, which is a complete no-go for me, and / or have a complete lack of episode numbers, making it impossible to follow a series along anyway. I think the best ones right now are CricketBritt and Solstin, but due to IRL things happening I did not really have time and energy to catch up again.
  6. No one is asking for anything different. There's already gated content in the game that requires exploration to get. You're nothing but trolling.

  8. Okay? If I wanted realism I would've said you have to research the entire process yourself, or even learn how to do stone knapping or whatever. To me what I just explained IS fun. It incentivizes exploration and gives more meaning to the bronze age.
  9. What? You start in a post-apocalyptic world, with no memories whatsoever, where you have to do stone knapping for your first tools. Most knowledge and technology is lost, with some only available to a select few. Even today IRL I would not be able to ad hoc make iron tools out of raw iron ore. Hell, I would not even be able to know how to find iron ore. The notion that we just randomly contain that knowledge within us makes absolutely no sense, especially when we have to piece history together from old books and banners. Going from bronze to iron is literally just the process of getting / making fire clay, finding an iron vein, and making a bronze pickaxe and anvil. There's absolutely nothing to it and most people basically completely skip through the bronze age.
  10. I always thought that especially iron working would benefit from some progression gating, like having to find a few ruins of old forges or whatever. It just sounds silly that we can just work it when humanity took such a long time to figure that process out. It would also make the bronze age much more important, instead of it just being a quick stopgap for the rush towards iron (i.e. just making an anvil & pickaxe). To reduce possible RNG issues with finding the required content one could maybe get side quests or maps for it from the treasure hunter that lead to ruins.
  11. Pretty sure it is primarily meant to be a parachute for the tower. The problem with any of those booster ideas is that it inherently would kill any other means of transportation, just like in MC with the elytra, which was one of the worst additions to that game.
  12. It's part of the world edit tools & commands, but it's creative mode only. There's no survival loading of like a Schematica type build guide unfortunately. There's a rough mod for it apparently, but I've not tested it myself and it's not been updated for a few months now, so I don't know if it is still ongoing.
  13. Gearing is always a compromise between speed and torque. If you want to have both you have to supply sufficient input power.
  14. Preview releases can only downloaded manually from the client area at the bottom, including the Linux client for that.
  15. It's not just with torch holders. Pretty sure fence connection has the same issue with chiseled blocks.
  16. If you want elytra bullshit, go play Minecraft.
  17. ?! Not really. It's highly incompatible with other mods, such as the FotsA mods and compatibility keeps breaking. And who the hell knows for how long that mod will stay alive.
  18. The Butchering mod definitely has you covered on that front! Personally I feel the graphics style alone makes it abstract enough to not be too gruesome. It's not like we're asking for a detailed visual representation of gouging the eyes out of a socket or something.
  19. Yeah it's a bit weird how pruning is purely a temporary decorative thing. I don't like the looks so I don't even do it, because I think pruned bushes just look too much like vanilla MC leaf blocks. Would be nice if a pruned block would still be somewhat bushy, and maybe a wildly growing one becomes more bushy than the current standard model. Just for the sake of graphical variety. Because I'm pretty sure real life pruned berry bushes do not look like some snobby hedge. On that note, trellises in all sorts of types and shapes would be awesome to have.

The animals don't look like real animals either, and neither do any of the parts beneath their skin, which we have in form of fat, bones, muscles, and the skin already - none of which seem problematic either, because apparently people create abstract ideas of what those things actually are. Hence the hypocrisy. I guess cutting things up in a certain form factor all of the sudden does not make it what it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I eat meat too, not much for reasons, but at least I also don't delude myself when it comes to that topic in order to justify eating it. VS is a survival game though... I think if there's ever a point in somewhat accurately representing butchery it should be a survival game. Not even for gore reasons, but I also think we should be able to make more use of things from those animals. Like, if I have to kill an animal for my own survival, you better believe I'll be using as much of it as I can, or at least try to learn to do so. This whole "out of sight out of mind" mentality when people see a packaged piece of meat is just weird to me.
  21. Yeah, sorry. Can't relate to that at all. I really don't want to be dismissive but to me this seems like some people being a bit hypocritical. If the game had ultra realistic graphics I could maybe understand it more generally, but that still would have to include the rust monsters.
  22. I think Matrix would have the same issue of being a black box though. One of the big issues of Discord is that you need an account AND you need to join a chat through an invite (which often is already expired) to read the convoluted information, downloads, or whatever else inside of it. There's no way to read it from the outside, there's no crawlers for search indexing to find it through search engines, and if the whole thing shuts down, all the its contents will be gone forever with it.
  23. I use the Butchering mod and think that's fine in its representation, and honestly less weird / gross than what you described. lol Edit: That being said. Considering how the rust monsters are severely corrupted & deformed humans, with split heads and ripped apart chests, I fail to see how a skinned carcass and a red liquid filled bucket would be too gory. The vanilla game is way grosser than that already.
  24. If your definition of fun is to go into any random cave in any random location to dig out small random pockets of iron wherever you go, then there's plenty of games for that already. Vintage Story however is a survival game and prouds itself to be a fairly authentic experience. If you don't enjoy that, you can either change the ore generation settings, use mods, or move on. Because I don't see them backpedal on ore generation at all. Interesting. I was using Rare Dense Ores but this may be a bit better while still doing the same thing it seems. I'm curious though, does this ore gen still follow the terrain above? Because that's what affects the pancake generation. If it spawns in hilly terrain the ore pancake would also generate in a hilly form below ground, if it was on a cliff side, it would generate in a very steep pattern.
  25. I vastly prefer the rare but large ore veins over the tiny MC like pockets that other games also typically go for with their resource nodes. Feels more rewarding to finally find something that's valuable to you in that moment and may even encourage you to set up some infrastructure or decorations, like a proper mine entrance.
