Your posts tone & length over a completely hypothetical scenario with a bunch of made up straw man arguments is definitely outrage culture. No buts, you already thrown an insult at me so you can't hate to be offensive that much. Maybe wait for a full release before you buy then? I don't even know how many years & decades we have to explain this to people like you. Buying into games that are unfinished is always a risk, regardless of potential other projects or not. And you're not entitled for Anego Studios, or any other development studio, to only work on one single project that you personally are interested in. It's their company and their budget to handle how they see fit. You can say the same thing about VS being born out of sentimentality, just like any other video game with passionate developers. Otherwise this would've simply stayed a MC mod, or never even got that far anyway, since it was obviously very heavily inspired by TFC. You think Hytale is cursed because it was mismanaged? If you have that little faith in this development studio, then why even bother with Vintage Story? Maybe try to be not so illogical. Then people can make more sense out of your future points. Until then I just see the typical entitled whining that I've seen way too much over the last decades of video game development.

Smoke from fire pits and forges, pipes and ventalation
Dark Thoughts replied to argeshnex456's topic in Suggestions
Not really abstract, just rather simple and performance oriented rules. Obviously, such a system like in Valheim would require a more precise way of calculating rooms, but I personally would like that for a variety of reasons - not just the need to build smoke exhausts into your building (not necessarily chimneys).- 74 replies

You're getting upset over semantics? Is that it? What the hell difference does it make if they call it a "separate game" vs. "a separate VS module" when they use the same engine?! This is literally a good opportunity for VS & Anego Studios so I really don't understand the outrage at all. It sounds like someone's ignorant & uninformed and rather spends their time feeding outrage culture instead of reading up on the matter. You also seem to like to do mental gymnastics to further feed that outrage through your bias.

I genuine fail to understand what you're struggling with regarding VS?

IMO that whole fight needs a do-over. It's always been super awkward, clunky and jank.

Long distance water transport - Aqueduct and reservoirs
Dark Thoughts replied to Crylum's topic in Suggestions
I was about to post that mod too. That being said, even without source block creation there's not too much of a point. There's not even that many natural water sources at higher elevations, let alone natural waterfalls. Disabling source block creation is also very limiting for the fact that you cannot do water based landscaping anymore. And ultimately, this is obviously all much more of an effort than just making a bucket and creating an infinite water source. Not that you really need that either, because there's annoying water holes absolutely everywhere (can't speak for the RC terrain gen). -

Ok boomer.

Maybe try actual words instead of boomer / zoomer hieroglyphics.

Agreed. I also don't like how we just got this one style to choose from. I like to build primitive Nordic A-frames with a big hearth in the middle and it's pretty much impossible to incorporate those typical roofed chimneys they'd have into the design with those chimney blocks in order to actually seal the room. Before I was using trap doors on the sides of the exhaust / roof side, but now that they're grated and don't count as a sealing block they won't work anymore. The "all or nothing" approach to room sealing is definitely annoying, not just for chimneys, but I guess it saves processing power, since you don't have to do complex calculations. I'm a sucker for chimneys especially though, I even wish they'd have something like in Valheim where you actually need one for the smoke. As it stands, it is probably more useful to just use an "always on" chimney if you want that aesthetic.

I'd rather not, since you either refuse to actually read, lack the reading comprehension to understand what I'm saying, or you simply argue in bad faith - which becomes more and more likely with each comment. So I'll just leave this topic be and block you now.

1. No, you're not listening. An LLM can give you many different answers to the same question, some of which may or may not be correct. We've been over this. And not almost all games have character progression, I also already said that all RPGs have character progression but not all games with character progression are RPGs. It's simply a requirement for an RPG to have character progression though, next to its other defining features. 2. Depends entirely on the developer and the game and what they envision. It could be a character progression system or one or more other things that define RPGs as a genre. I honestly don't want to make this a separate topic because it's been explained enough already and I struggle to see where the issue in understanding is. An RPG doesn't have to be heavy on story itself. Many RPGs may not even have a main story, especially open world RPGs tend to just have background lore and your characters actions are what write your own personal story.

Can a Flatpak installation do that? I thought the whole point of Flatpaks is to not touch the actual OS.
-
That would be roleplayed though, no? Or do you throw dices based on your stats and then play out the results? I only know LARP as going by a rough script with lots of improvisation.
-
No, and that's also exactly what the screenshots in the initial post of this thread show.

I always saw them as big googley eyes with massively dilated pupils, which reminds me too much of the other block game with its stupid chibi uwu kiddy styled crap. That's why the seraphs always stood out for me compared to the rest of the game. Aesthetically they don't seem to quite fit in.

It's about as subjective as everything. I'm not saying the aggregation of the internet is incorrect, I'm saying that an LLM is simply choosing the most probable tokens for its next word to pick from. If there's a wild variety of opinions on a certain topic, then there's also a wild variety of probably tokens a reply can be formed with - assuming there's been no further clean-up of the data. I'm simply asserting not to use LLMs the way that you've used them. What people personally think is usually based on their personal experience. If someone played only Diablo, then they will be thinking that Diablo is an RPG, even though it lacks the deeper story elements & roleplaying factors. However, I very much already explained to take the historical origins of the genre into account, and those very clearly have the often mentioned aspects in common, which is ultimately what formed the genre - and that's consequently what the definition boils down to. You can argue about that, but just like TicTok zoomers define the abbreviation of "PoV" to something that it isn't, does not mean the definition of "PoV" is somehow subjective. Everyone who knows what "PoV" means & stands for, and always has been standing for, knows that this is bullshit. All RPGs have character progression (excluding maybe LARPING, because real life and it is more like a theater than a game) != all games with character progression are RPGs. Honestly, it seems you're just here to argue over semantics that other people don't seem to struggle much to understand, for a topic that apparently does not even interest you, which is a bit weird.

I completely forgot that the soldering iron is even a thing. But the whole game is like this, starting with all the tools - including the soldering iron. You can't just take a tool head and a random stick and magically fuse them together either. Normally you'd have to prepare some kind of handle and have some sort of binding.

Just tried on Bazzite (immutable) with Firefox (flatpak) & Vintage story (flatpak) and it does indeed work. I mostly use VS Launcher for mod management but I guess I browse the mod database through the browser most of the time anyway, so it can save some extra clicks. This should probably at least be added to the wiki or something.

I don't see that at all? They look the same as before to me, just more polished. The other NPCs, which afaik are regular humans, look way different. Personally I think they looked stupid before and still do in the new version. I still hope we'll get other (non furry) species in the character creation at some point, including humans - modded or vanilla - even if it would be inaccurate to the story (assuming you play it anyway). After all, there's a homo sapiens mode too, which technically should also remove seraphs. I think it is more of a matter of them being more defined and consequently add variety. Most expressions were pretty samey.

Because LLMs are fed with all sorts of varying opinions & shifted perspectives from the past decades of where people argued over this very definition as well. They are not arbiters of truth and ultimately still just word prediction trying to sound plausible. You can ask an LLM the same question several times and it will end up giving you various different answers that may contradict each other. That's just the nature of LLMs and consequently you're very much using them wrong if you are looking for them to define such things - especially when the answers are more complex and somewhat nuanced. RPGs, as in games, do in fact require proper character progression systems, because that's a) the historical birth of them in the tabletop / pen & paper and early text based RPGs, and b) what video games ended up adopting & evolving into various sub genres such as hack'n slash / slay, which offer the same feature but less of a story / lore & consequently less of a roleplaying focus. Hack'n slash is often labeled as action-RPG but people who play RPGs often dislike that term as RPGs are naturally very story & roleplay centric, while hack'n slash is really mostly about living out some power fantasies. Diablo birthed this sub genre and it has very strong D&D roots, but they simply focused on the action parts of dungeon running instead and cut most of the rest out to be some loose background lore that's told on the side (or not). An RPG without a character progression system would simply be an adventure or action adventure, like the Zelda series, which focus more on item progression, despite the story nature that could be used for roleplaying as well. Yes, the story & roleplay is usually more important to most people who come from pen & paper, but ultimately they all had their fat rule books that described such character progression systems. Personally I don't think it's that hard to define the differences if you look at the historical development, and accept that various sub genres simply do blend & mix things up - just like in music, where people also argue like crazy over what is and isn't X or Y. As for VS' potential upcoming RPG / Adventure mode it will likely also face some sort of character progression system that's tied into the exploration mechanics. At least that's how I understood the direction that Hytale was going (but afaik that was also never really clear and probably one of the big development issues of its core identity crisis) Gendered hares would be bucks or does, but that's also typically also used for other species - especially deer.

One of my biggest annoyances is the login actually. It constantly logs me out and then wants me to solve obnoxious multi step captchas to log back in again. Like, I'm clearly a real user, so why?!
-
Oh yes please! My personal wish list would be pulleys, rotors and some sort of inverter to make things like elevators, draw bridges, gates, portcullis, etc. along with conveyors and being able to place the large gears on walls & upside down - maybe also more interesting machinery, like saws for example. Like, there's Linear Power but would it not be cooler if we could smith some big ass circular saw that you push logs into?

Any way to close off the room if an axle is entering it?

I believe for greenhouses you have to count from the block below the water sources so I don't think water will work at all for this.
