  1. Setting up a Multiplayer Server — Vintage Story Wiki See Ad-hoc server option or Dedicated server option.
  2. This thing is challenging for me too. And i have tried many options except food related mods. Main options: a) Played on own base in public MP server - always food grinding when finnaly had time to join, yet if you make some greenhouses and crop fields there can always be some food as time on server moves fast. One day its winter, another day - summer. Food preparing can take your time away anyway, so finnaly you will have less time to explore and do other stuff. Area around you can be explored without you even knowing it. So you can find explored caves and ruins all the time. b) Joining some active players in community at their base. That could work unless you don't see them struggling with time as well. Otherwise you feel that you are just wasting their resources and not giving anything in return. I tried to gather other resources in exchange for food. Food was plenty, but even grain eventually spoiled as time is moving fast in active servers. So again..some time for preparing cooked foods still should be spent, but this worked well untill other players started to dissapear. (Huge thing in this is to be at same time-line, so you can play together at one time. c) Own server together with players like you - when you all play time progresses. When don't nothing should happen. In conclusion. Surviving can happen in any of this scenario. Without share-able waypoints it can be hard to know which areas are explored already, unless server uses some mod or external map to show TLS and roads made. But if in MP you want to look at full cellar with those attractive crocks and veggies it will better work in b) option. This is just how it is in this game. Game has so many nice small things in it and it can become hard to deal with not being able to use them fully all everytime you have some time to play. My main struggle was large trips and cave explorings (which i love) without wasting much time to prepare for them and being able to return to base in time (so next time i wont start game with full inventory half of which will be ROT.
  3. I'm all about using spears, because close combat is disaster to armor even if you survive.
  4. 1 torch (can be unlit); 1 reed basket; no food though as huge options available now, which weren't before;
  5. Had similar thought when suggested club at the beginning. Not meaning it as option for all. Having it could still lead you into trouble if you don't have armor yet and you decide to kill sheep, so i wouldn't say that it is somehow game breaker as club or torch is possible to make quickly anyway. Some guys get so offended as they thing that adding more tips/guidance at first steps only will somehow ruin this game for them and game will call them stupid now. I just have seen many guys (and my kids) reacting to this game. So i try to understand why so, as we can play many games together without any problems. So i started to compare - others games had nice tips at first, so they didn't have to ask me for every thing they should do. And also they didn't feel good, when i got surpised/upset sometimes that they still don't understand what to do after my explanation. So i cought myself at being too harsh, thinking everything is obvious (as it is for me only). We all just wan't this game to be more fun for everyone, as we love this game ourselves already. So we are just "brain-storm"ing here and there is no risk for players here while something from this is added to main game. There is new generation of gamers growing out there with "x-ray vision" included in games, highlighted interactions and many cutscenes which play game for you. It's not great, but many shit-game sales show that's just how it is. I just played Half-life series again. I am sure that new players today rage quit at some of the levels as there is no clear tips what you need to do to progress. Same with S.T.A.L.K.E.R, for example. Games were differend back then.
  6. Unless you are against mods, this mod has such feature (Grindstone) for tools. It has some necessary thing though too to use it.
  7. I'm all about making new players life more easy. But having fire at your belt level seems very unsafe IRL and thus would brake immersion for me. I would more agree on having some glowworms in glass storage once it would become possible. Placing torches around cave is one thing for me, which makes cave exploring more rewarding for me, as drifters won't spawn then and seeing all cave lit gives some nice feeling once you have explored it.
  8. This one is great for new players. I agree @Rhyagelle. More time to read handbook will save a lot of souls.
  9. Just an idea. It could be ruin, it could be broken chest with one knife around...not the point. Point is to make first experience less stressfull, as dark night is coming (even without mobs yet) and starvation can take huge time of players mind, so he even forgets that knife/basket/torch etc. can make life little bit easier. p.s. @l33tmaan i've noticed your edgy posts in forums. It's great you know everything about this game, but sometimes you could at least try to get down to new player level just to better understand them. You could be one reason player leaves this game. He would probably need some encouragement..yet he meets you in forum as final straw so he feels stupid for not knowing how to make a torch in 60 seconds. So he decides...this game isn't for him.
  10. O.K. Then solution is tickbox at start: "Do you wan't you legs broken? - YES and NO". Pressing NO. You have game we have now. Pressing YES, you can have torch and, maybe club.
  11. I am talking about first experience again for people who don't know anything about this game. He will learn how to make torch once he learns other things. Where is problem in you having torch already, if you know how to make one?
  12. Honestly giving player one torch in hand when spawning could already be great solution. He has clothes on, why couldn't he have torch as well. He will jump in water with it anyway.
  13. Agree to almost everything above as we just discussed some of things mentioned in other posts in forum (Here and here). But i would like to emphasise again that this all goes about new players and only so it wouldn't sound all bad. There is another thing i would like to mention. Many thing you need to do are made as much similar to IRL processes so people who have some knowledge about metal casting and primitive survival could easily understand direction in making some stuff in this game without any guidance. I understand that it wouldn't be self-explanatory for many, who, for example haven't heard that coal can be made in pit (Kids living in modern society where some won't even know what coal is even ). I learned many real life things while explored tutorials so that's great way to learn stuff about primitive survival and technology. Problem is that not many people have such interest in researching such things. Or they simply don't have english skills to find info they need. Thus they can't simply understand what this game is all about.
  14. Suggestion forum is for suggestions. And if @Tyron don't read them then no problem with that even more, I know him and his team are clever and probably know better. I also understand how hard it is to make such detailed game. But if he reads posts, i am sure he would understand what i mean, even if he doesn't see any chance to implement that. Didn't wan't to hurt any game fan feelings. I am just saying out loud my experience with the game when meeting new players or trying to play with our kids. thats it.
  15. It seems Discord has way better activity. But then again thing like "community" is what can make this problem, thus pushing game as niche product, because it counts more on active player ideas and suggestions, ignoring new player experience which is what this post is about. Community for me is those players, which play often, thus can aslo have time to push their ideas in discord. In result, every addition might have great things, yet none of them make game more comfortable to use to new players.
  16. Survival guide is not bad (although reading is not so fun for many too especially if it's not in native language), but some pop-up in game should at least encourage player to use it at first. Then game could tell you to use flint and sticks which is always first thing (whether its tips or some highlights). Then maybe suggest to make torches. And after some first steps, tips should stop as learning game by yourself is more fun. I like how game "Cryofall" does this. First steps are like some achievments. After that they stop and you are now on you own.
  17. Totally agree on need for some help tips at early steps. Just had similar discussion in other forum topic. And i must say it is just my feelings from playing on servers and while trying to play together with my kids. I don't have straight feedback facts about game being too difficult for new players.
  18. This is exactly what i mean as well. I love to see such a good game, but i would want to able to play in enjoy with friends and my kids as well. I am following and supporting this game since October 2020. Played this game for quite some time myself. Being patreon (small, but still) for a while. Thats the reason i feel confident when i say, something should be done to make game more enjoyable for casual players, not only super builders or guys with lots of time on their hands. Sure adding stuff to game is related to income, but it can't change if game is not being pushed to public. Nothing much should be added for that. Just some stuff to make game easier for those who want such experience (without changing settings which first time players wouldn't know what to expect from while haven't played for some time). And i am not talking about mobs difficulty or anything else achieved by sliding options to easy. I am talking about tutorial and players first experience with game. Would be nice if player could peacefully learn to get used to game, its mechanics. And when they get bored only then go out into caves or dangerous adventures. But now game won't let you do so unless you start tweaking settings thus making game easy from the start, but less enjoyable later (Because once you make game easy, later you won't be able to change its difficulty or resource distribution). Many players get scared away or tired with first "in your face" expercience. But if game would let them live their peacefull life without getting mobs everywhere, they would maybe learn the game and love it, thus continue playing and starting to get into adventures once they are ready for them. I know games lore is about drifters, corrupted world and such. But maybe there could be option instead of super easy mode - like option where drifters could only be in caves or direct area around them. Also not disabling temporal storms, but being able to make some "bad decisions" in game which would lead to storms. So yea. I guess what i wan't to say. Easy mode could be not that mobs aren't attacking. But game with more tutorial tips and possibility to choose when to engage with game mobs and corrupted world stuff. ATM i just can't suggest this game to any of my friends. And i hate it, because this is amazing game i would love to play with them.
  19. Although i wish this game much success and would love to agree, i can't agree 100% on that. VS has great atmosphere and many amazing details, no other large and popular game would have, because it would be forced by management and sales. It becomes better and better everyday. But mostly at being cute and realistic. Game mechanics won't let me fully enjoy it's potential in survival and adventure aspects of it. For me this game is fun and amazing, but it is impossible to enjoy if you have only one hour to play it daily. Even in single player/local multiplayer (where food and seasonal changes won't have effect on your experience) you still aren't fully able to progress at pace i would like once your journey's after resources start taking further from base. I could deal with that while playing alone (as i can quit and then progress later), but it is imposiible as i tried to play with my kids. They aren't so patient and carefull, so every mission turns out to be saving mission or returning to base for new armor and tools or even rage quitting for them. Making game settings super easy though, will make game boring for me. They die from drifters, wolves etc. and that makes them tired of this game quickly. On large servers i notice that regular community consists of players who are people retired veterans, unemployed or sick at home (Not all....probably it is only my own experience). Many other have always struggle with playing regurarly and wasting much time to grind. Some are ready for large adventures all day long ( So i am left somwhere far away if i have to quit to be all alone later) while they are left alone on their journey. Others are starting journey with me and have to quit, leaving similar situation. Everything you need to do in this game needs time. Exploring caves need large patience and ability to fight if all goes wrong. They are fun for me, but many players don't like to be in such stressfull situations which these caves can be. Game is amazing with its creative mode, but survival needs to find some way for us (busy/working people) to be able to hop in and still be usefull and have fun in communities. Otherwise (in multiplayer) we are whether burden for other or simply some neighbour with small hut nearby, while others build castles around us and clean everything from resources while we are offline. What to do with that and must something even had to be done with that? Dunno. But for me, to be more playable, this game needs: 1) Some ability to make area safe from nasty spawns; 2) Self-made TLS to places i need; 3) Ability to trade with NPC's with everything, even if it takes some time to deliver (And no cost for delivering - just time to wait for it). Although i see this as a problem for servers, unless all agree on this setting.; 4) More weapon-related LORE, to keep players more interested and safe in deep exploring. And also to be still able to protect yourself even without good resources reached yet. These things i would love to see for game pace to fit my needs. Ant this is not demand. Just my feelings. Till then, i will probably have to play other games, which let me choose when and how much i wan't my time to be spent on it. P.S. I realize that many things i mentioned could be fixed with mods. So it's not rage agains DEvs in any way. Just explaining my feelings in a rush as even now i have to go and leave this text as it is.
  20. My idea was more like an option for players like me. It could spawn only in some places and only if player does certain things and wants that. In any other case, that could be simple open area with no use other than some arena with ruins having player to think about what was it used for before. I understand it could be more suitable for MMO. But i guess it's just some MMO game elements i miss in this game then.
  21. I like idea of time after time spawning huge/strong monsters in different places to make coop more needed in this game. Similar like game Cryofall does where huge mobs spawn and you have some time to prepare and go fighting them together splitting loot according to damage you made. Offcourse there shouldn't be in-game warning in game once it happens. It should be more like a lore-related thing. Once you find some scroll, you find something like a map/riddle/crystal, which guides you to that arena/cave you can fight in together. Only problem would be experiecing that in single player world as it seems hard to fight alone then. Unless we could hire some men at trader or small towns for gold/silver for certain time to follow us and fight for us. For me this game needs more challenge than simple grinding achievments. Lots of ideas. And i guess...DEVS has million of them themselves. Yet adding all that needs lots of work.
  22. Or they'd start throwing your chiseled chairs at you. Them throwing things like rods maybe would be nice to see yet not so nice to catch.
  23. Looks nice! I am afraid to go near lava though with those knockbacks now.
  24. Unregistred users can't post anything in forum - isn't it so? As far as i understand...no need to make forum closed. Just make that registering accounts should be just made more protected. How can bot add posts in he can't login? So if bots won't be able to get in site, no bot made posts in forum as well.. Adding captcha or something more easy to use when registering could fix this i think because i doubt some1 registers bots manually. But maybe i am wrong and don't know something about sites like this.
  25. I also feel strange looking at banner in game site, but... If worl'd won't react to all happnening in Ukraine, there might be a time where nothing will matter anymore for other countries too. Today Putin thinks Ukraine should be neutral zone between Europe and Russia. Tomorrow he will think that those small countries like Latvia, Estonia or Lithuania shouldn't be there too. We have Russia and Belarus right by our side (I live in Latvia). Latvia has many russian speaking people here and Russia indirectly already has made some attempts to have an affect on our language rules or politics though the years. Next step could be telling that we are also attacking his nation for not allowing to learn kids using russian language at our schools so our country should be reoganized too. I don't think we know all truth behind this and maybe by supporting Ukrain we will make all worse for ourselves. But gut feeling says this "mission" must be stopped so i trully support Tyron's decision.
