Given the charcoal pit mechanic I expect that suffocating the fire wouldn't work. My experience in combatting unintended fire spread is to break the blocks the fire will spread to.

As realistic as this game is there will always be somethings that won't be realistic for gameplay and fun. If the game were 100% true to life we wouldn't play it. It takes obscene amounts of water to extinguish fires. Homes that are partially consumed by fire suffer flood damage to the parts that weren't consumed by the fire.

I expect you could place a block above the gate, remove the gate and be able to safely kill drifters with a long blade. Nathan Wostrel created a drifter farm that funnels living drifters into a kill chamber using water mechanics then channels the drifter corpses toward a collection chamber. All safely done without threat of damage by drifter.

What do you look for in a good starting seed?
Maelstrom replied to Builder Bob's topic in Discussion
My only must haves in a new world are reeds/papyrus and knappable stones on day one. Everything else is just a matter in finding it. I like to end day one with a large number of knappable stones and a couple stacks of clay for night time crafting purposes. gotta put those potentially dangerous night time hours to good use. -
In the screen shot the y coordinate is pretty much at build height. They're likely to have about a 100+ block fall. Beyond that, one of the more techie folks would need to help.

@NalierI'd say that what makes the game for one person may detract from the fun of another. I'd encourage you to play vanilla for a bit and find out what frustrates you about the game or makes the game un-fun, then look for mods that will address those points of non-enjoyment.

Or consider you have a reliable source of animal hide and fat.

Here I was thinking you wanted surface drifters to start throwing rabbit or fox carcasses at us. Although the occasional and sporadic animal carcass missile would be an funny.

In general I agree, but if they selected black guard for their class, the hunger penalty can make an ordinarily normal start pretty hard. @imperialwaltzThere's options to reduce the base hunger rate which can in essence "increase" sustenance from berries (as well as other foods). It's kind of a back door way to increase the benefit of food. There's a lot of options for the world and that's part of why I prefer VS over other survival games. I can make the game as fun as I want while others can adjust it to do the same for them. I'm not good with combat and ease up on the difficulty there but make other things a bit harder to keep the challenge high; but that's what makes it fun for me. Others are excellent at combat and most other aspects of the game and there's setting adjustments that they can use to cater to them.

What do you want to see more of in base game?/ Possible mod integration
Maelstrom replied to FizzyB's topic in Discussion
There currently is a mechanic for attracting the animals that can be domesticated. Troughs of food can attract animals within about a 40-50 block radius. -

No sir! That shall not be allowed! Didn't mean for my comment to imply strict exclusion of the option for starting equipment, especially if it makes it fun for others. Like you, I'm fine with the whole show up on the scene "nekkid as a jay bird" option. -
I believe despawn timer is 10 minutes. I'd be surprised if it can't be modded, but an infinite despawn timer may lead to significant lag from the engine tracking all the entities in world.

You should get a crash log (and most likely a button in game that will open said log). See what the log says. If you need help with reading the log, post it here and one of the techie people here will help.

I think it comes down to the personal cannon/lore we players inject. For me the seraph is aware and accepts the grueling start, ala Kyle Reese in the opening of Terminator. -

Take into consideration the opening and closing texts when loading and quitting a game. When loading part of the welcome is remembering and a call to Return Again. When quitting a sigh of loneliness. Indicates to me that the seraph we play enters and leaves the world as if by transitioning to and from the game world dimension. If that's the case, why would we have something beyond the clothes on our back? At least it beats Kyle Reese (father of John Connor) who shows up literally nekkid. -
Additionally, updates are subject to change. Tyron had intended 1.17 to be the story/lore update until he played the game with some friends/family and saw how much quirky stuff goes on; so he pushed the story/lore update to 1.18.

@MSwampcroftA few other fun details you may want to try (if you don't already know about them)... 1. throw a stone at a pond/lake. 2. play a resonance chamber close to a rift.

Fur clothes are WONDERFUL! All it takes is pelts and a knife or shears to create fur clothes that provide up to 4 degrees thermal protection. A full set takes 30 medium or large pelts and gives 9.5 degrees of protection iirc. I'm running a full set of fur and have little trouble running around in -20 degree weather and not getting the shivers. I think it takes about 18-24 hours outside constantly before I start shivering.

No wonder I was getting murderized by drifters last night!

Only at world creation. I believe the setting is climate - default is temperate but can be changed to warm, hot, cold or frigid which basically moves you closer to the equator or pole respectively.

Make leaves rain-permeable/change rain behaviour
Maelstrom replied to Garjouan's topic in Suggestions
IRL trees do stop a lot, if not all rain. Seems like preventing rain from moisturizing farm blocks below them is accurate. -
Looks like you've got a very profitable source of hides, fat, meat and bones. A little thinking on the situation could solve your problems too.

I don't think there's any additional benefit to putting crocks in a vessel. I think their primary spoilage is determined by presence in a cellar and whether it is sealed.
-
Additionally crocks can be stored in chests and trunks like shelves and vessels.
