Tyron probably didn't think of it.

Sounds simple on the surface, but pop the hood and the coding would require either reworking the existing item framework or creating unique items to capture the data in a useable way, which means another data field in the code for each unique trait.

Like isn't a good enough reaction to your idea. I absolutely LOVE it! It would be even better if tied to low temporal stability. Not every time the stability drops below 10% but occasionally to increase the WTH?! reaction that will last the rest of ones life. The Betweenlands mod for that other block game does a stupendous job of creating a creepy, horror atmosphere. There's something like Dave called "Them" which are giant humanoid shadows that fade in as they appear (sometimes apparently just a dozen blocks away) but fade out if you approach them or after just a few seconds. Usually you'll catch it out of the corner of your eye and it's gone before you have a chance to focus on it. Youtubers reactions to this are absolutely hilarious! Even though that event happens regularly, and becomes familiar it still provides the horror setting of the world. To dovetail on this, another thing Betweenlands does to set mood is ambient sounds. Different biomes have unique sounds. In caves you get the occasional water drop falling into a pool of water. tree frogs and insect sounds in the tree covered areas. Barren areas are devoid of sound. I would LOVE to see just ambient sounds added to the game. It would give so much life infusing immersion to VS.

And the locals don't pitch rocks at you from afar? Interesting...

1.19 pre Stone and other resources are very hard to find
Maelstrom replied to Arasine's topic in Discussion
What was your climate? Life's a lot easier in a warm climate start. I've had temperate starts where wild grain and veggies were sparse and the animals almost as sparse. As I said, nomadic life CAN (but not always) be a setup for a brutal winter. -
I suspect the absence of those items is a game balance thing. Based on the damage progression of spears, the iron and steel variants would likely allow killing bears with just 2 or 3 spears instead of the half dozen plus.

Can the hoe be allowed to weed tilled dirt?

I believe the scythe can be used to do the same without harvesting immature plants. Been a while since I've done this, so I could be wrong. -
1.19 pre Stone and other resources are very hard to find

If playing in a colder climate this can be a setup for a brutally difficult winter. Two months of running around might give you a single harvest of crops for winter preservation. Hopefully sufficient seeds were gathered during the 2 months of nomadic lifestyle. -
Does this mean screaming goats?

1.17 prevented non PC entities from walking on the top of fences, breaking my drifter trap in the process. Nothing in life is easy (nor should it be). This is the (VS) way.

I believe Expanded Foods has a tap and maple syrup amongst a plethora of other things.

RNG can be such a malicious b***h on steroidal PMS!!! One of my first test run worlds (maybe even the first) in 1.14 had a whole whopping 12 or 15 reeds in a couple hundred block radius of spawn despite copious tracts of lakefront property. Only had one basket by nightfall and it was a particularly dark night and I hadn't collected enough resources to light up the night. -
I just remembered in the second world mentioned I added a mod that gives smoke particles to terra preta for visibility. Even after adding that mod I didn't find any additional terra preta that I had missed before. And it didn't really help me spot new sources either as I saw the smoke particles after I noticed the near black soil.

Personally, I like the current sleep mechanic; including the buggy sleep abort. IRL I may wake well before my alarm wakes me up or sleep longer than I think I will (when I don't set an alarm). I'm not against an option to wake at dawn consistently, but like @Thorfinn I wouldn't use it since the current mechanic is more organic and enjoyable to me.

I've had worlds where I was practically throwing away terra preta for having my farming needs filled. I think I stopped digging it up during the second summer when I had 4 stacks above and beyond the 2-3 stacks in my farm. I've also had worlds that after 2 years I've only found barely over a full stack. RNG sucks sometimes.

@Malnaur My apologies for breaking my promise to not responding in this thread. Please accept my apologies for my rude response to you yesterday. It was not as gracious as I strive to be and I want to make amends for how I treated you by apologizing now and being more gracious in the future.

Keep digging in that local area. Tin is likely going to spawn multiple times in that neighborhood.

Your 14 posts and join date of 6 months ago really shows that 1,000 hours of play. While everything in your post indicated a newb. You assume I was pointing out perceived "faulty" game play but apparently fail to see that I asked a question, then respond with vitriol. I think you fail to understand this forum. In case you hadn't noticed here's a screenshot of the forum header. To which I was providing my perspective. With this I will bow out of this thread and leave you in peace.

Is there a way to move this post to a different forum? Say Questions?

Ummmm... HOW did you reset your spawn? (Just making sure the computer is plugged in during troubleshooting).

I doubt changing some of the blue and fire clay to red and brown varieties would result in breaking old worlds. Would just mean that red and brown clay would generate in new chunks only in previously created worlds.

Hello pot, this is kettle. In spite of your spite, I was offering an alternative perspective, which seems to have struck some kind of nerve. To your point number 2, there are plenty of resources within 1,000 blocks of spawn to give you plenty to do for at least the first 24-36 hours of game play. But you seem to have your panties in such a twist that you'll see the world through your blinders. So you do you, but at least be mature enough to be less abrasive when disagreeing with people.

I like to think that fruit trees may be the intent for all trees down the road (like when Tyron has time to scale things up).
