It would be kind of nice if there was a dialog box that let you decide how many hours to sleep (up to the bed limit of course). But especially during winter I often like the ability to just pass the time rapidly.

Before making enough torch holders for my base, I'd obsessively take them down and put them back up every day to never let them burn up. ....which gets a bit tedious in addition to not being realistic. I agree ideally you'd feed grass into them.

I feel old.... lol. I like seeing people's signatures but don't know what to put for my own. Some people are being a bit grouchy in this thread! EDIT: Want to add that only a very classless dragon would put ketchup on a human or other kind of meat! lol.

do you have a low resolution on your PC? Maybe try temporarily increasing resolution on your PC to match what VS is set at. then hopefully you can lower them both.

Bread vs Pie vs Porridge for consuming grain?
Vexxvididu replied to Vexxvididu's topic in Discussion
What I mean is, which fills you up better per grain used. Bread is more satiety per grain, but maybe not as good given that bread doesn't pause the hunger meter. Pies also have a hunter pausing effect. I was trying to get at which is more "optimal" but agree with the pole consensus that pies are more fun! -
Can't launch vintage story with mods on Mac
Vexxvididu replied to A Bad Player's topic in Discussion
It would be very helpful to list out what mods you are trying to use. It sounds likely the mod(s) are not made for Mac. -
Bread gives more satiety than porridge but porridge has that hunger freezing effect. So I was wondering if anyone ever did the math about which one actually fills you up better? I'm also just curious about what people just like to do more. I know enjoy making a pie every now and again even if it just takes the most time to prepare.

same with showing coal types instead of always firewood. I think greenhouses could use some improvement. Crops shouldn't sway with the wind in greenhouses. Crops also shouldn't turn white like they have snow on them in greenhouses. I also think the heat bonus of them should be configurable. The default of just +5 is pretty useless relative to how big of an investment they are. I got a mod for this, but I feel this should be an option in vanilla since by default, they are kind of pointless.

Ebony and Purple heart are the correct answers! ...my survival world mostly uses birch because that was what was more available.

HELP! Can't get Anvil out of mold. What do I do?
Vexxvididu replied to SrFrodoSwaggins's topic in Questions
Yeah, A LOT of what is on google or the wiki even is out of date. That's why many people recommend using an alternative world that is switched to creative to test this kind of thing. -
Hi there! I don't speak or read german well but used a translator to see what you said. Make sure you check your spam folder. It shouldn't take long at all.

I just tested this in my creative mode game, and it doesn't work. Can't seem to mix and match ores in the same bloomery. I highly recommend having a separate game in creative mode for testing stuff like this before you risk precious resources in survival. I like to start the game in normal survival, then switch it to creative back and forth with: --to switch it to creative. /gm 2 --to switch it back to survival. /gm 1

Is there a way to enable chiseling for dirt blocks, or to mod it in?
Vexxvididu replied to Ari's topic in Questions
I was confused nobody knew this was just a world setting till realizing how old the original question was, haha. -
no surface area with positive temporal stability
Vexxvididu replied to MokraMrkva's topic in Questions
If it's dancing back and forth slowly, that means you are in a stable area, with full sanity. -
Iron bloom didnt spawn with enough voxels to finish the thing
Vexxvididu replied to NastyFlytrap's topic in Discussion
Agreed. I don't see this as that big of a deal. ...but it is clearly a bug. It's an easy mistake to make as a bug, but seems too absurd to do on purpose. I also can understand why it's not necessarily the highest priority for them to fix. -
Iron bloom didnt spawn with enough voxels to finish the thing
Vexxvididu replied to NastyFlytrap's topic in Discussion
Don't got one at the moment, but I was already thinking of ways to brute force it to figure out which one it is.... I'll do that when I am feeling less lazy, haha. thanks! I have a TON of iron ore but very little resin for mechanical parts and not enough linen for the sails yet. I'm sure this can happen at different rates for all sorts of reasons. -
Iron bloom didnt spawn with enough voxels to finish the thing
Vexxvididu replied to NastyFlytrap's topic in Discussion
THANKS. I need to figure out which bloom variant is missing voxels since I don't want to skip the game mechanic entirely, I just think the blooms with missing voxels seems like such a weird choice it's hard to not think of it as a bug. Part of why I suspect it was an accident is because it comes off as an unexplained oddity. it just seems weird... -

I'm definitely of the opinion this is a bug that needs to be fixed. ...there are plenty of other good reasons to get a helve hammer running without this issue. -
it should just fall to the ground after mining the stuff around it. I play with block gravity disabled other than gravel and sand and that's how it worked for me.
-
I have block gravity off and it does not stop you from "relieving" rocks like this. What mods do you use?
-
Building on what professor dragon suggested, your setup looks to me (in my still kind of newbie opinion) like you might be dropping too much torque for speed. The hammer needs a lot of torque. Try removing the large gears. EDIT: I watched that video you linked to, he's doing some shenanigans with mods that won't work in general if not done exactly.
-
What fuel are you using? Not all fuels get hot enough to smelt metals. The outside cold and whether or not it's a room shouldn't matter. Also, are you using any mods?
-
I just want to say I've found this discussion interesting. I'm also torn between making salt difficult to get from a gameplay perspective versus the realism that yes you can boil sea water, lol. I agree that gameplay is more important than realism. It's also worth mentioning that salt is very abundant in the real world (which is why it's super cheap in most grocery stores) but there have absolutely been times and places where it was valuable and expensive because it wasn't locally available. I think I lean towards the idea that it should be possible to boil sea water for salt, BUT it requires a lot of sea water to get a little bit of salt and totally boiling away liters of salt water is fuel intensive.

I'm pretty sure that the answer to this question is very random and probabilistic. Prospecting results are NOT set in stone. I recently mined in an area that was prospected to be high in cassiterite but found none of that.... got some quartz and surprisingly, a LOT of iron that I wasn't even expecting at all. In summary, I think if the place you're mining in is prospected to be high in Cassiterite, it's likely you'll find some that is deeper down. ...or you might find unrelated things... it's all a spectrum of probability. I also found my first cassiterite in a place where I was expecting to find bismuth based on the prospecting results! So yes... many places have multiple ore deposits and it's very random what you might find.

Combat is too shallow for it to be so integral to the game.
Vexxvididu replied to Tabulius's topic in Suggestions
A flint spear does 2 damage stabbing, and 5 throwing. A chicken has 3 hp, which means you can one hit it on a throw, but not a stab. Call me crazy, but I think I should be able to one hit kill a Chicken, hare, or raccoon with one stab of a spear. It's just an example of how basic surface animals seem to generally have too much HP. You make a good argument about the value of husbandry, but I do think a lot of basic animals like deer seem more resilient than they should be. Even if their hit points were nerfed a bit, husbandry would still be valuable since then you don't have to go looking for prey. This is a good argument for why wolves and bears should be stronger than the unequipped player, which I agree with. But I do think they are maybe a bit too common. Real ecosystems always have a much larger population of prey animals than predators. It feels like wolves in particular are a bit more common than makes sense.
