If I run my vpn I am blocked from viewing this forum site. Why?

I'm literally posting this from a VPN right now -
Best of luck to you. Best advice I can give: Mark everything on your map properly...change the color, use the symbols, and type a name.

Boy, did you two say it. This is why I personally prefer Indie titles, because they're not bound to the whims of some overpaid executive who never touched a controller in their life. Personally, I would be leery of selling to Microsoft especially, given that they axed the studio that made Hi-Fi Rush and were considering axing Id. I don't think a big boost in popularity would kill VS, but it definitely would change some things. I know I recommend the game to a lot of my friends, but most of my friends like these kinds of games.

Except that the Rot creatures wouldn't accept the Dr. Pepper.... Because they Wanna Fanta

Sounds like it's time to mod in a certain Handy Haversack!

[Insert obvious Salt pun here] Obvious puns aside, we usually trade for salt as well, though we do prospect for it while we are out exploring. I've managed to find a few salt domes peppered around the various worlds that way, but they're still rare enough that I relish the moment I find the halite readings that indicate their presence. But the honest answer is, unless you get lucky, you'll likely have to grind your salt out at the traders. But, like Zane said, that doesn't really leave you in a pickle, because salt isn't really a cure for anything necessary in the game. It makes things easier and is necessary for making cheese, but that's about it. So don't worry if you can't catch up on the salt thing, because by the time you've mustered up all the other resources you need for the stuff salt helps out, you'll already have found some. Personally, I still think we should just be able to make it from Seawater, which would give us a reason to go saline on the oceans rather than stay inland.

Not to derail back into the pizza topic, but that actually sounds pretty dang good, as long as the hot sauce isn't so hot it overwhelms everything else. Like, I love spicy food (And would be interested to see something like it in VS) but there's a limit to that.

In regards to the diplomat thing, I think it may actually fit to give the Tailor a boost to trading, though. After all, a Tailor would have had to source raw materials and tools, plus haggle with Customers. Might be interesting to make them the Trade class as well.

This could actually be a really good way to make a more "Nutrient Dense" food: Bread for Grain, Meat for Protein, Cheese for Dairy, Veggies for...duh. Pair it with something like fruit juice and you're covered on all five.

Let me hasten to clarify I just did that for the joke. I do actually like it quite a bit, but I never judged what people do and don't like. Just felt like tossing a gag in.

I would have a problem drinking from them even once they were dug. Issue is, I wear glasses. So I can't...see that well.

My Unpopular Opinion? Hawaiian Pizza is delicious. My actual unpopular opinion, Vintage Story related? Thirst should be a thing, and Water should be a finite resource that needs to be gathered, with source blocks unable to be moved. You can drain a source block and place the water elsewhere, but it will no longer be a source block, so be careful where you put it.

What about "Shivers in Space!"?

Game didn't quite live up to "Uncompromising Wilderness Survival"
Heart_Afire replied to jerjerje's topic in Discussion
Well, it would cause me to seek to defend my farm first and foremost, but the honest solution to that is walls and Light, along with placing blocks that the creatures don't seem to appear upon. Once my crops were properly protected, though, I would focus on setting up other 'passive' sources of food like fish traps from Primitive Survival. If there are no mods, then I'll focus on finding ways to stay alive until my crops are ready while also getting a cellar ready for storage. I would also be hunting mushrooms and cooking and sealing everything I could. Honestly, I enjoy playing 30-day months. It feels more 'real' to me that I can spend a lot of time in Summer gathering resources and then spend Winter enjoying the quite literal fruits of my labors. -
Fishing in a 3d videogame not built around fishing
Heart_Afire replied to Venusgate's topic in Discussion
Local Blackguard found Dead Our top story tonight, LadyWYT, a local blackguard, was tragically found dead today at the bottom of a local lake. She was found with one arm stuffed into a crevasse, and the autopsy indicated death by drowning. Her bag with her was found to contain cooked food, an eyepatch, and multiple types of fish, all with spear wounds on their bodies. Local Guard reports conclude that LadyWYT died while diving into the lake to catch fish, rather than using a trap or pole like a sane person. Apparently her arm got stuck when she jammed it into the crevasse beneath the log. [Spoiler Character], upon hearing the sad news, was quoted as sighing before saying: "Seraphs, use your noodle, and don't noodle." (This came to me after reading your comment, I had to write it out) -

I must have definitely missed something going down while I was away and dealing with things, but I wanted to throw in my two cents that... THIS is unacceptable, no matter the topic, and OP shouldn't be feeling the need to apologize to the community at large. Far more than the AI topic being discussed (I'll keep my opinions there to myself) the matter of a member of this community being snarled at by another to the point they felt the need to make a thread like this concerns me. That is bullying, pure and simple.

Fishing in a 3d videogame not built around fishing

So, what I would actually like to see is a mixture of the two, along with a few other bits and bobs thrown in later (Things like ocean netting, for example). 1) I like the idea of fish traps like in Primitive Survival, but what I think they'd be better suited for is catching multiple small fish that the player then has to process into usable food. Sure, you can cook a big bluegill over the fire, but panfish like that are often better served as fish flakes added into something like a gumbo. And the joy of traps is that when properly made the fish actually can stay alive in them for quite some time, depending on size. So for these what I would do is have the traps select from a variety of random drops with a low chance of catching a bigger fish, with the most common catches being things like shellfish, small panfish, and occasionally a piece of weird junk like a cattail root. 2) In terms of actual angling, with a rod and reel, that's where I would want to actually see the models of the bigger fish I would be angling for. Complete with a proper little technique that must be done in order to hook and catch the fish. In return, though, I would want these fish to be bigger, providing multiple pieces of meat, bones, etc. Basically give the player a proper reward for going into the trickier setup. 3) As one final addition, I would also add the presence of aquatic dangers to preclude Noodling. Nothing crazy dangerous like a bear, but enough to give a player pause. An Alligator Snapping Turtle or a Water Snake would do the trick, I think. Or a ginormous catfish, one whose drops are...lackluster. -
The Vintage Story Forums: Come for the Silly Polls, stay for the surprisingly deep (and occasionally heated) discussions of various mathematical, programming, or other scientific topics. Also, can I propose that, given the creature's official designation and our moniker for him, we christen this rust monster "Dave, Lord of Thunder" as his full title?

How I got my Nickname, Part 2: The King of Hearts called for the Tarts... "HEART! When I said you could take some of the pies I did NOT mean ALL of them! Get your metal-scaled [beep] back here!!!" came the call from the house about two minutes after I had left. Fortunately for me, Prancer is a fast elk, and I myself am wise to the ways of the woods. In point of fact one of my personal rules is that I always carry the supplies to set up a small but permanent shelter, and these shelters dot the land. They're hard to find unless you know precisely what to look for, though. My little hidey-holes. All of this, of course, meant that when I heard that yell from Silver, it spurred me to gently kick Prancer into a gallop and put some blocks between our dear leader and myself. After all, adventure awaited me and I didn't have time for the niceties of Tailors and Clockmakers. No, no, I was on a mission, one to find new places and new traders! After a good two hours spent galloping, I had managed to put more than a few hundred blocks between myself and that tailor friend of mine. Added bonus, I was near one of my shelters, and with the sun going down it was a good idea to stop. Night is not a safe time on our world. I set Prancer up in the stable, giving him plenty of rye, before settling in to the shelter. The pies had cooled off by that point, but my hunger bar was still pretty much full, so a single slice did for the remainder when washed down with some whitecurrant wine to slake my thirst. My general needs met, I banked the fire in the shelter and made sure there was no light outside that would give me away before laying down to spend the night peacefully. And beat the Knave full sore! So imagine my surprise when I find myself dragged out of bed by a tailor who, by all rights, shouldn't be able to pull a chicken out of a reed trap! Yep, pulled from my bed by my ear by a tailor who managed to track me down, find my shelter, get in through my locks, and then manhandle (Seraph-handle?) me out of bed before whacking me with a big stick! After he'd managed to knock off a few health points, suddenly he pointed a flintlock at me! "Pies, NOW" he ordered. Of course I moved to immediately comply, quickly reaching into my bag and throwing seven of the pies back to him. Only for him to switch back to that stick and whack me once more. "Come onnnn..." "ALL of them." Well, what else could I do? I set down the eighth pie and he grabbed it too, hoisting them into his bag and turning around. "Don't let this happen again. Curb your hoarding instinct." he ordered, before getting on Mars's elk (I guess Mars let him borrow him?) and cantering off. So, there I was, now without my pies, having lost a third of my health, and now just huffy that I didn't even get to keep a single one of them! Completely unfair! The Knave of Hearts brought back the tarts And vowed he'd steal no... Yeah, no. I'll totally do it again if I get the chance. Cherry pies are just toooo delicious.

Welcome to Vintage Story. May you find many berries, avoid the wolves and bears, and learn the joy that is finding your first tin deposit. Also, save hi to Dave when you see him!

What about this, with ideas taken from a couple other games and mods: 1) The map is disabled normally, but it can be crafted a la minecraft. 2) Once crafted, it occupies an inventory slot 3) Crafting it requires some basic materials, and updating it requires the usage of a cartography table 3a) The Cartography table also allows sharing between players. Whenever a player puts their map down, their waypoints and explored areas are saved into that table's memory. Any player who updates the map there then gets all of that. 4) Optional: Auto waypoints for certain things, like picking up nodes or marking a fruit tree 5) As a means of nudging the player to make one of their own, the maps to the story location will show only the area around that location and its coordinates

This is a really cool idea, I will admit. It's certainly very user-friendly!
