logAnmalONE Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) I returned to the game after 3.5 years away and I'm not a fan of the spawn location quality on the survival setting. Ninety percent of my spawns have been absolutely horrific. For example, I spawned on the side of a very high fog covered mountain cliff on a ledge teetering on a steep cliff edges around me. Another spawn was in the middle of barren desert region with no grass or water anywhere in sight on the map. The third spawn was in the middle of a rain forest where I was immediately attacked by two wolves within ten seconds of spawning. I'm really disgusted with the spawns one after the other and I'm thinking of shelving the game for good. Why was it made so difficult for a person to get a normal spawn without immediate severity at the very beginning? Edited December 31, 2024 by logAnmalONE clarity
Michael Gates Posted January 2 Report Posted January 2 I haven't seen this. If anything there's a lot less of that "checkerboard" terrain with the alternating pits and plateaus these last couple versions. If you want to check on it, generate a dozen or two worlds and log your experiences.
Zane Mordien Posted January 2 Report Posted January 2 There are some really horrid spawns sometimes. I spawned on a mountain once with a cliff all around and no way off. Just try a few until you find something decent.
logAnmalONE Posted January 2 Author Report Posted January 2 I'll try it again when I have time. Thanks for the replies.
Maelstrom Posted January 9 Report Posted January 9 Additionally, there's been a HUGE change to world gen since you last played. You may want to find out more about the settings for upheaval, landform coverage and landform scale. In my first 1.20 world I adjusted landform coverage and scale a bit. Had plenty of ponds and lakes but no reeds. Had to run almost 1000 blocks to the ocean/massive lake to get reeds.
Thorfinn Posted January 9 Report Posted January 9 38 minutes ago, Maelstrom said: Had plenty of ponds and lakes but no reeds. Was your biome just too cold? From defaults you can end up with reeds or not, and heading east or west finds different climates where they may spawn.
Maelstrom Posted January 9 Report Posted January 9 Nope. regular temperate initial climate. Reeds just didn't generate in the various ponds local to the area. One of my first worlds in 1.14 had no reeds next to a typical lake for that version. After spending the ENTIRE first day looking for reeds, I aborted and gen'd up a new world.
logAnmalONE Posted January 11 Author Report Posted January 11 I found the world settings that I was looking for after a player by the name of Wrigley helped me identify the proper settings I needed for both landform coverage and form. I'm back in-game and having a great time again. 2
