unstoic Posted March 15 Report Posted March 15 Im wondering what peoples suggestions/personal preferences are for worldgen settings? im very specific about my world and id love some recommendations as a newer player, resource scarcity is something im worried about, but id also like oceans to be not so rare and possibly viably for travel if i decide to use a sailboat, basically; what worldgen would be best so that it gives the intended experience during progression, but not have the oceans be so infrequent? im not so knowledgeable about how the worldgen settings affect things, so id love some help and recommendations!

If you want oceans it's sort of luck of the seed unless you turn down landform a lot. Try 975848118 as a seed if you want oceans nearby. You start on an island which isn't optimal but if you go west there is a larger island with halite and to the south (go straight south from the spawn island 2500 blocks) is a large landmass if you want more land. It's also a limestone start so you have that resource right away.
dakko Posted March 15 Report Posted March 15 Ashantin (who loves sailing) did a video demonstration just before the stable 1.20 release: My Understanding Of The Landcover & Upheaval Balance I do not know if her understanding is correct or not, but I thought the demo was interesting. She goes over her setting choices (and you can see the results) for the upcoming 1.22 release in this playlist: Vintage Story Setting Up My 1.22 World 1

While I prefer land-based maps myself, I also like to see the ocean every so often, so the 80% setting typically gives me maps that are primarily land but with enough ocean that I'll actually be able to see/utilize a few of them in my travels. That being said, if you're worried about resources you can always change the spawn rates of global deposits(affects all ores) as well as the spawn rates for surface copper and surface tin specifically. 1

ArgentLuna Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Only thing i'd reccomend is turning the chance of Tin up a notch
