Titan The good Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 Does anyone else feel a bit bored or questioning what to do during winter months?
Nathan Flaminio Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 Sometimes. We're coming out of winter in Wisconsin, but going back into it in-game. Winter is good for base expansion/chiseling, spelunking/mining, finding a location for a seconday base, getting farm animal generations up, smithing. I slowed down the time rate to 1/4 normal and increased the days to 30 per month, but with winter, I speed time up at night and slow it back down during the day. I recently finished a third base, and am spending a lot of my time stocking everything up there. 2
Nick Salt Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 I take the opportunity of going questing and cave diving when I am not tied to the farm during winter. The first year is more of a drag when you are less equipped to go off having fun. 2
Rainbow Fresh Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 I only encountered my first winter so far and I didn't have time to be bored or depressed, too busy fighting off starvation for yet another day after learning of my grave miscalculation that winter is supposed to be only 3 months long. 2 1
LadyWYT Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 Not really. Winter sometimes gets dreary, yes, but it's a great resting period in the overall pace of the game. The cold and strong winds make it a great time for refining iron and steel, and it's rather nice to just go for a walk and admire how calm nature is. The plant life is dormant, as are most of the animals, and you know that kind of peace is just temporary since spring will return soon enough and bring with it a cycle of new life. 2
Thorfinn Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 (edited) Great time for mining, too. Even on Wilderness settings, being in caverns protects you from the cold. [EDIT] It's kind of why I usually limit myself to a year. You have enough resources stockpiled by Spring that it's no longer interesting or challenging. Edited May 8 by Thorfinn 1
Demoncyborg Posted May 9 Report Posted May 9 absolutely feel that!! I tend to prepare myself for it though, like stockpiling bony soil to pan, focusing on my husbandry, finally getting around to juicing those old apples.. or just working on chiseling 1
cjc813 Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 my favorite thing is when i'm playing VS during RL winter. my seraph and i get to have seasonal depression simultaneously. very immersive 1
bigsteve69 Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 I class the winter months a time of the year when I do upgrades to the buildings that have sprung up during the other seasons to accommodate expansion of material production.
