PsiOmegas Posted June 6 Report Posted June 6 Hi guys, Ive been playing Vintage Story for a couple months and ive just cleared the resonance archive on my first blind vanilla playthrough 150h or so in. I just wanted to make some suggestions for the UX for the lore books. Make mousing over a lore book show the books info: " 'The spy and the sparrow', book 2 of 10 (read), (6/10 total read)". Make the (J) journal show how many of a given story you have already read eg "6/10 books read", same as the initial notification when you read an unread book. Make the journal reflect the actual format of the books instead of just showing "1/17 pages" when there are 10 books, all with 1 to 3 pages. This one is personal taste, but I think making each book of a series the same color, instead of all random would make more sense. The current lore UX is extreamly tedious in regards to trying to collect all the books and organise them (I have to open every book just to know what it even is), and honestly made me not care to collect or read the lore, which sucks because the lore seems awesome. Thanks for reading (post 1/1 read). 4
williams_482 Posted Monday at 12:35 PM Report Posted Monday at 12:35 PM Fully agreed. These changes would have prevented my own confusion when getting books from the RA the first time, and would make organizing a library far easier. For the most part VS is very good about giving you useful information in tooltips, so having something actually helpful in the book tooltips would hardly be out of place. 1
LadyWYT Posted Monday at 03:15 PM Report Posted Monday at 03:15 PM I would also add: remove the particle effect from lore books that have already been read. Or at least, add an option to turn those particles off. They can be need to decorate with, but players don't always want mysterious particles floating around a room just because they decided to put a lore book on a table. 5

Yeah my library looks dusty as hell if I leave any of the books out. It would be cool if they had more visual variation between them too instead of just a flat UI screen. Scrolls should have a parchment background and more fancy font compared to a miner’s journal that was just scribbled in and covered in coal dust. 3
ifoz Posted Monday at 11:16 PM Report Posted Monday at 11:16 PM (edited) I think it'd also be nice if scrolls had variants, like books do. Scrolls from one lore series might have the current blue band around them, while scrolls from another series might have a red band. This would make it a lot easier to differentiate which lore series scrolls are from, as currently they all look identical. Also, not all scrolls should use the 'rotten-parchment' texture, as they currently do. Player-made parchment and scrolls relating to new world stories should probably use the clean parchment textures that are in the game files. Edited Monday at 11:17 PM by ifoz 3

I actually went through your post amidst my own fustration which was helpful. @Professor Dragon reply (SPOILERS) was one of the only places i could find a coherent list of the lore and the required books for a complete collection . 1
