SnapJelly Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 (edited) As I was exploring in my current singleplayer game I eventually encountered a massive limestone biome and upon prospecting found halite readings and thought to myself: Imagine finding a salt dome in the same place I found limestone? Has anyone even been that lucky? Then I remembered the day I introduced my friend to this game and talked to her about how the game REEAAALY opens up after getting into the copper age but how it can sometimes take a while to find enough copper nuggets and if you get unlucky it can be a little annoying (hoping to preemptively warn her in case this happens so she wouldn't get frustrated with the game) Only for her to wander into a ruin and find a copper pickaxe in a cracked vessel on day 2 XD Share your greatest moments of luck with me!? Teh Pizza Lady Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 I introduced the game to my kid who is only 9. He proceeded to wander around, nearly die to a boar, and then find a cracked tool vessel. This tool vessel contained a copper knife. Bro skipped the stone age entirely. He wants to play again, this time with me and my blackguard friend. As for my personal luckiest moments? Here you go: 2

LadyWYT Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 I've survived a few fights on 0 HP. Yes, you read that correctly. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nadda. Turns out you don't actually qualify for death unless your HP value is negative. Now I certainly don't recommend trying to cut fights that close, since surviving like that is just pure dumb luck, but it does make for a rather harrowing experience and interesting story later. 3 1
CastIronFabric Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 every single one of my lucky moments involved Better Ruins mod.
MobiusvanMars Posted August 21 Report Posted August 21 (edited) My latest world is an experiment with 10% land cover, 5 degrees north (Custom Latitude mod), 50k polar equator distance. And my standard tropical "survival light" experience: no temporal stability or storms, 5 day grace timer, keep inventory, no class exclusive recipes and no true winters... (yes it somehow affects creature weight IN MAY and in the tropics which is BS). + because of the limited amount of land double deposit spawn. Spawned on a ~250 by 120 block slate island (ugh) with only a few patches of crops (2x flax, 1x amaranth, 3 peanuts). Stayed alive on a diet of 70% bamboo shoots and 30% scraps of goat/chicken/mini deer caught in the trench around my pitiful starter garden and killed by the resident sun bear. 2x surface copper, no tin, 1 useless shallow cave system, a patch of red clay and a whopping 19 papyrus. At least there was enough bamboo, tree ferns, and kapok bushes/trees to get started and then some. Oh and very high hematite, but I wouldn't have known that if not for what happened (see below) Then a raftable ~500 blocks west LAND AHOY a larger island! Minerals: enough surface copper, 1x surface tin, prospected tin, 2x surface lead + prospected lead,1x surface brown coal WITH BLACK COAL below. Natural bounty! Dry to wet gradient! Acacia (w/ 2x resin), 2 ebony trees, 1 olive tree (6 cuttings), 1 pomegranate tree (9 cuttings!!) TWO BREADFRUIT TREES (one tree 7 cuttings first go + 2 almost instantly), enough papyrus, plenty rice and amaranth, some cassava, 3/4 stack of high fertility soil and flowers (not enough yet, but at least some). Oh and the surface rocks are claystone and chert. My favorite tropical material combo for a copper/bronze age insulated 0.3x spoilage 1-floor house with a roof terrace, covered with those stick layers for copper/bronze age bonus points. Layers of sticks you say? Covering two terraces of interior dimensions 7x5? On a tropical island with two and a half kapok trees and none of those temperate bushes? Are you mad mister Mobius? Well you will see. That island was not the only stroke of luck... To top it off there was a cave with a Y 90-ish translocator, taking me 13k blocks north (thanks to the no ocean translocators mod) to just south of 30 degrees north! The lush zone, the warm start. Where the devs decided to have the largest biodiversity in plants. (unlike IRL where it's the equatorial zone) Enough sticks, mushrooms, plenty berry bushes, flax, spelt, onions, FLOWERS (why so few flowers in the equatorial zone), bald cypress, oak, walnut, peat. And there is a LIMESTONE AREA!! all of the north/western quadrant. Leather working! Mortar! And of course as a building material for a late game house if I get to that (I rarely do) + Artisan trader (decorated vessels!) +1 1/2 stacks of high fert found so far (enough for a year round growing climate) + 4 cabbage seeds, which I can farm thanks to the Shadehouse mod. ifoz Posted August 22 Report Posted August 22 I have one in particular that comes to mind; (This was a vanilla ruin too, not even Better Ruins!) Other than that, I did once find the "candlemaker" buried treasure within the first month or two of a new world, which gives you a gold-lined silver lantern and some extra gold plates (that I then used on another lantern I'd found in a ruin). Another time I found one of those 0.3% chance gold lanterns inside a ruin chest, which was lucky as well. (Actually, why are so many of these stories about lanterns? ) 1
Bimbobear Posted August 22 Report Posted August 22 So, I started playing this game a few weeks back and joined in with a streamer to play on their world. My first time ever playing. In the time I've been playing,I've found hundreds of bars worth of Iron, silver, gold, meteoric iron, made steel. Found Halite, Borax and dozens of different ruins etc... In short I've gotten stupidly lucky apparently, to the point where people have asked multiple times if I'm using some kind of map hacks lol. 1
Stellarbone Posted August 22 Report Posted August 22 bout 30 hours in my current run, I found a giant salt pillar just exposed to the surface. I've barely scratched it and have already got about 500 units of salt. In the year or so I've been playing I have never pickled or cured food, or made cheese. The last few days I have been doing just that. 1

Stralgaez Posted August 23 Report Posted August 23 (edited) Fell down a partially covered hole. A deep, 25+ blocks drop. And survived without a scratch, apart my near-heart attack feeling of vertigo when I fell into the darkness. Edited August 23 by Stralgaez

LadyWYT Posted August 23 Report Posted August 23 7 hours ago, SnapJelly said: you didn't take damage? how? There was some sort of bug related to fall damage. I don't recall exactly how it worked, but the basic premise was that remaining perfectly still after beginning to fall would mean no fall damage when you finally landed on solid ground. So I'm guessing that's probably how. 1 1

hstone32 Posted August 29 Report Posted August 29 (edited) This one is from my most recent world: Very close to initial spawn was a surface cassiterite deposit, which are very rare by default. By picking up the surface pieces, I managed to gather just enough cassiterite bits to make enough tin-bronze for a pickaxe and hammer. To this day, I pride myself in the fact that I have still never once casted anything out of pure copper. Edited August 29 by hstone32 1
