  1. If you do not hear the 50 or so damage sounds due to starving, will you hear the 1 belly growl?
  2. I get your point about fitting hostile creatures in the environment, but drifters exist because they serve the lore. I don't know if you have played the chapter 2 of the story yet but it seems hard to me to make something that interesting with dinosaurs. If you haven't experienced the story yet, it's a bit different since that would make one think there is no constraint on what kind of hostile creatures are out there.
  3. I have to say that I don't understand how snow is removed instantly upon loading chunks when visiting a snowy area during the summer but ice stays in place. -- Unrelated to that: since we're dejanking, I'd like to see items that have an in-barrel texture have the same texture in an open crate instead of force-closing it. It seems like that kind of stuff should be automated but it's done by hand, judging by the exceptions.
  4. I'm not sure why "1.20 post mortem", 1.20 isn't dead. Perhaps post-release fallout (in terms of new sales and extra work)?
  5. I'd like to see sticks add 1 cooking slot (the same system as the cooking pot that adds 4) so that we can have the stick visual even after taking the roasted meat.
  6. About that, it would be pretty simple to change the quicklime recipe from what it is now (place the powder directly in the fire?) to a dirty pot recipe. It won't exactly solve the problem of stacks reseting their temperature, but at least you can consume 24 lime at once.
  7. so i hear people saying "the intended way to get gears is this way". i don't care. people don't generally care how the developer intended for there game to be played. You said you could only get gears by killing drifters. I said you can get large amount of gears by trading properly. You then exploded into a diatribe about what is intended and what is not. This is not the topic, there is no debate. The topic is you failing to understand that killing drifters is a slower way of getting gears than selling high quality goods. Don't notify me again please.

  9. That's not how trading works. Monsters sometimes dropping gears is just a bonus. You are supposed to make high quality goods (leather and linen-based items, recurve bows, bread, tools) and sell them for gears. That's your main regular income. In addition, you can gamble a bit and find the routes that will give you profit on items you buy and sell, instead of produce and sell. My main pattern is: produce items to sell to survival goods trader and treasure hunter trader, buy wolf pup from survival goods trader, sell pup to treasure hunter, buy vessels from treasure hunter, sell vessels to commodities trader, buy potash. It's super profitable with just those 3 in the cycles, and even the last one isn't mandatory. You could also produce soy en masse for agricultural traders.

    Fish

They could already fix the bug where salmon doesn't drop meat despite having 1 meat listed as a drop in the relevant json file. This is more than one year old: https://mods.vintagestory.at/salmonfix
  11. I have a dedicated laboratory for cooking everything that makes pots dirty. I set it up before 1.20 because I knew it was going to be annoying to make industrial quantities of sulfuric acid in my 1-firepit home. It was a blessing and helped speed up the production of sturdy chromed leather tremendously.
  12. As for special foods that repel monsters, I would definitely love that but in a specific way: comfort = temporal stability. It kind of follows the principle of sanity from Don't Starve. Cookies and perhaps booze could replenish your temporal stability. Bonus points for a mechanic that incentivizes the drunk dwarf miner roleplay.
  13. As all things, the naive check isn't enviable. Do you perform it once at world generation, starting from a random water block? Do you store the list of oceans somewhere? Do singular chunks save a flag? What happens when the shore is modified by players? It's not easy to make something that sounds obvious. As for the "biome" (sic), same deal, they can be modified beyond recognition so you still need a block check somewhere. We have that problem with wolves who use the forestry scalar field to determine whether they are in a forest, because trees are generated following that field too, so it's a cheap and fast way to check for a forest as long as the player hasn't razed it. Once it's destroyed, the wolves still spawn there.
  14. As cool as it seems, I don't see how you detect what constitutes an ocean to determine where to apply waves.
  15. Github leads to high quality bug reports that properly describe the issue, the versions affected, etc. Discord is a mess without any management of duplicates, no mandatory template, and makes for a spammy unreadable bug report section.

  17. > Fixed: Localization: Plaques in the Resonance Archives, and similar signs in ruins or story locations, are now visible in Asian, Arabic and Cyrillic alphabets. [Github #4748] The famous "Asian alphabet".

    Winters..

No problem I just think it's a shame to have lost the world but of course everyone has their preferences. I think keeping worlds forever is nice because they build up over time and it's a special feeling to revisit an area you had colonized (and perhaps abandoned) like 1 real life year ago. About the month length, 30 days is a lot. That makes a game year last about 200 hours of play time. Personally I don't mind the cold weather and the snow but the length of the days themselves is a bit problematic in winter, as it forces you to sleep a lot even when you're just at home building stuff. It also makes your farmland 1/3 as effective, which can be inconsequential if you have a reasonably large farm. I have three chinampas of 7x7 and it's way too much food at 9 days/month so that should give you an idea of what you need for 30 days/month. Overall I would say the default value is balanced. Maybe setting it to 10 instead of 9 to ease mental calculations.

    Winters..

I don't understand how you expected to last an entire winter, which might mean around 6 months without agriculture, on a stack of grain and "several pies". That's like a week of food. A stack of grain is the yield of perhaps 6 farmland blocks, that's quite a small garden. That was a good learning opportunity at least. I don't understand why you would start a new run and erase all your progress because of lack of food either. Just go hunt. You can eat meat until the spring. Kill wolves and bighorns, they'll respawn eventually. Eat everything you have to eat to survive. Make meals to get the most satiety out of your ingredients. As for the travel, who says you have to be warm all the time to go somewhere? Make a firepit when you are cold. Make a shelter when the night falls. You can travel any distance as long as you allow yourself not to sleep at home. The shelters that are spaced one short winter day of walk apart from each other will stay in your world forever and be useful every year.
  20. You're welcome! About the "claiming", I took a bit of a shortcut with this term but it would be something quite natural of course, not "this chunk is now mine" with a command. A bouquet of criterion would have to be developed to determine seemlessly what area is really lived in.
  21. What VS needs is to change the drifter spawn light level requirement from max 7 to max 0. If you want to change it, you can take a look at C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Vintagestory\assets\survival\entities\land\drifter.json and modify the light and even height conditions there. There is also a good mod called Drifters Belong Underground. I know it's not the purpose of the suggestion but things move slowly so those can help you while you wait. I really dislike that we cannot "claim" areas as safe and inhabited. Being forced to put lights everywhere kills the atmosphere.
  22. @Brady_The Oh! I didn't notice there were two. Thank you!
  23. Anyone else experiences the issue on the forum where discussions below Tyron's news post are sometimes available, sometimes hidden? It seems random.
  24. Good idea. Plus they have the mini-dimension system doing that for whole selections in World Edit so it should be possible to adapt it for single blocks.
  25. I believe rooms need to have their faces flat. It can be the inner or outer face but it must be full and not chiseled to work properly.
