  1. They will still end up climbing it, but it'll be a little more difficult, meaning that they shouldn't speed up the thing like Speedy Gonzales. It's definitely not a sure fire way of preventing them from climbing, especially since they jump like the Hulk.
  2. I've seen wolves climb a ladder, too. I guess it's more believable with a bear since they are naturally strong climbers, but it's a video game. I'd rather not have the animals climbing ladders. I've found though that spacing the ladders out by 1 block makes it much more difficult for animals and drifters to climb.
  3. Oh, that's what you meant by waves. Yes, they are way worse than the one or two giant flat sideded mountain walls. At least with those you just have to scale/go around (or if you want to, drill through it) one of them, this this one is worse. Because on the sides of them, there are rarely any safe ways down. No dirt scaling to go down, almost never waterfalls or deep lakes y ou could drop into. But somehow, the tops are almost always overgrown in thickets and trees, so you can't see where you're going until you fall straight down several blocks. These shattered mountains look beautiful, they remind me of the Wulingyuan mountains in China, but they appear too frequently and without any other means of quick travel or traversing giant, hazardous geographical features, their visual attraction can only take them so far. I used to primarily want to live in mountains until recently. The headache is just too much. Now I wouldn't mind 1.18 generation beyond these points, because the new method of generating hills, mountains, etc etc looks better, but I think the priority that is taken when its hills and these mountain ranges are considerably higher than anything else. I don't think anyone would be complaining (too much) if the hills and these sorts of mountains popped up more occassionally rather than every other minute you've scaled a hill/mountain...
  4. It might be helpful if everyone experiencing the crashes run an trace on it or post some crash/error logs, if possible. Any lockups or even crashes could be caused by simple issues that become hidden by other means, such as corrupted driver installs or missing dependencies, which usually end up being something like lib32-mesa. For example, a bad/corrupted install or outdated Mesa package could cause the hangups/crashes.
  5. I've just now noticed what those improvements are in-game for prospecting playing online. It makes a really big difference, thanks for implementing it!
  6. That castle looks so good, dang! Awesome work on it, I especially love the use of the vines!
  7. It does feel a bit...slow. I mean even if it just operates as a no fall damage item it's a great addition, but if it's intent was to just operate like that, they could have just made you get Link's bunny slippers or something. I think it would be great if they not only increased the speed, but the distance it can carry you. It would be really interesting to have a tower set up on a nearby mountain, for example, and another tower in your base that you can glide down to.
  8. I think I know exactly what you mean. Sort of like this in generation, right? If so, 100% agreed. You could find a beautiful place, flat or even slightly bumpy, and then it's almost entirely walled in by steep, flat sided mountains and that makes traversing through or about the area hideously annoying.
  9. At the moment with all of the hills and mountains and the pretty much non-existent flat ground, implementing a mount system or a travel system like this wouldn't do much. I know you mentioned roads, of course, but I see that being a reason why this mechanic may not enter the game—at least for a good while. I do love the idea of a wagon you can store resources in. That would be really, really cool!
  10. Rivers would be a fantastic addition to the generation. It could also help with the hilly parts of the world, too, because you could just take your raft through them rather than jumping and jumping, oh and climbing for 5+hrs. Also, it would just be a lot cooler and definitely make the maps look nicer without 10 trillion variously sized random lakes/pools.
  11. If you think me sharing my impressions and opinions of the hill problem in the new generation is "discouraging you" from stating your own dislike of the terraine generator (re-read what I said, as I pointed out it does seem to favor hills), that is entirely on you. So take a chill pill and relax, there's no need for you to get this upset over a simple and unproblematic post. And there is not option to "enable" and I never stated that there was. It's randomly generated. You may find a seed that is 90% hills. Another might find a seed that is varied in its generation more comfortably. The seed of the MP world I was playing on had a few continents that had pretty nice spread in variation of terraine. That was all I said. And the only way to alter the generation is through mods that target that or continously making a stink out of it until the developers take another crack at the generation. As someone who also does the same thing, spending hours walking looking for places that aren't hilly or swampy, I feel that pain. Hopefully the developers take another chance at changing the code, maybe make it favor hills a lot less.
  12. I also agree that the small chance of getting bronze from boney soil should remain, but overall, a rather minor complaint when you look at the grand scheme of things. Thanks for the update!
  13. There's definitely flat grounds in the new generation. Playing on a server that has oceans enabled. Found three massive continents that went from swampy to forests to hills and then drop into giant flats. It just seems to favor hills a bit too much. lol
  14. I've spent a while in 1.18.1. It's got beautiful generation. I think it's more difficult to traverse now because mountains and hills seem more "realistic" in how they spawn. Which means you're almost always traversing some sort of up ascending geographical feature.
  15. Loving the update so far! Great work!
  16. I'M SO EXCITED! I can't wait to get back and download the update! The new generation is absolutely GORGEOUS. I'm struggling even more now to find a place to settle because EVERYWHERE is amazing! The future of Vintage Story is insane! Thanks as always for the awesome game and updates!
  17. I really love the new generator. A lot. I usually spend about an hour or two looking for great places to settle down though, so if people want perfect every step of the way, then this kind of generation will probably never appease them.
  18. Downloading noooooooooooooooow.
  19. I have no idea why it refuses to work for me, then. I have my shortcut saved correctly, I presume, given that it worked after all your help before (thanks again by the way!). I've also tried running as admin, but that didn't seem to work either. Just gets stuck on preparing the install. I'll try a few other things, hopefully it works. EDIT Even manual updating gets stuck on preparing to install, and not just for my secondary install. I don't think the issue is on my end, after all. EDIT 2 Okay, so only the install version worked for me, so yeah, definitely think it was a problem with the update versions of rc.6. If it helps to know, I'm on the very latest version of Windows 11.
  20. On a dual install? Hmm. I can run the installer normal just fine, but it updates my "default" install instead of the 1.18 install. Guess I'll try running as admin, might force it.
  21. When trying to update the game from within the game, once you get to the installer, it freezes and doesn't complete. Gotta task manager kill it. *trying to specifically update a secondary install btw
  22. Oh man, I seriously can't wait for stable! Keep up the awesome work, and thanks for another update!
  23. Awesome! I can't wait until this becomes stable. I'm going to have so much fun just exploring the new generation for the world that I'll forget about life! lol
  24. If you're certain that lightning strikes could not have hit the chickens/animals, then maybe something else happened to them, or perhaps even a bug. But I think that if the lightning hit the roof of dirt, the chickens would have been hit. I've been hit in dirt huts while I wait out storms before. Not a lot, but enough to know they aren't fool proof. I'm not sure if that's intended, though.
  25. I don't know it would work on the ground, because if they are near the blast, they will probably still die. I always put a rod high up near them, or anything I don't want struck. Just make a fancy tower going up and then put the rod on top.
