Wolves and wolf spawning/respawning questions
Maelstrom replied to Gerritt McGill's topic in Questions
@Gerritt McGill Sounds like you camped near a wolf spawn point. As mentioned you can take the conventional route in dealing with the canine infestation. You can also dig a pit to trap wolves in. This unconventional method keeps wolves around, but in a way that is harmless to you and reduces (potentially eliminating) wolf spawns that are more disastrous to your continued adventures. As other's comments indicate, not all forests spawn wolves so prolifically. Part of your situation is RNG seems to hate you. -
(atmospheric thought) the calm night needs hoot owl creatures...

And tree frogs. Daytime could use various song birds (boime dependent ideally), cicadas/insects as well. -

Theories/Hypotheses: What is the player character?
Maelstrom replied to Takata Cheroki's topic in Story
This is not true. Seraphs take damage from low temporal stability regardless of their proximity to walls. I've seen Seraphs take damage in wide open fields after spending too much time in a rift and depleting their temporal stability. -
You should know the answer to that question. Casting takes fewer steps to get the finished tool head.

What do you want to see more of in base game?/ Possible mod integration
Maelstrom replied to FizzyB's topic in Discussion
IRL gravel has a lot of uses. In game there are just two - panning or decorative/building block. At least sand is used for mortar. Low Fertility soil is used for packed dirt, path blocks and a few other building blocks. Gravel needs a bit o' love. -
How far underneath copper nuggets can ore blocks form?
Maelstrom replied to Kenneth Romeo Carrington's topic in Questions
I have found surface copper generates no lower than 6 blocks below soil level. -

I would like to see a use for gravel besides panning. Perhaps another path block that provides 10% boost to movement and a different texture than the stone pathblock but only comes in block and slab options, no stairs. -
Wolves will tail you to hell and back. Drifters are easily outrun and the one that caught you chopping a tree was probably one that spawned locally.

I believe slash and burn provides a temporary benefit to fertility. Much of the Brazilian rain forest was slash and burned which provided just 2 years of fertile farming before the ground was devoid of nutrients from the burned forest.

Coopers reeds (aka cattails) should appear in every climate except polar regions. I believe at this time the severe lack of reeds is a bug. You'll probably have to abandon that world a try another one with the same settings. Alternately, you may have to be the nomad until you can find a place with reeds.

Should there be an 'iconic' enemy like Minecraft's Creeper?
Maelstrom replied to Native Copper Bits's topic in Discussion
None of us know what's really going on in the world. The best we have, currently (until 1.18 story element comes out), is what's in the journal about rot and the current temporal shattering of the world. Given the Lovecraftian theme specifically mentioned, reading Mr. Lovecraft may shed some light on what we may see in the future. Based on my recent reading of Lovecraft's work, I think future story elements and digital threats will be different than what has been theorized. -
The Native Copper reading on the Pro pick (density search mode) is the larger deep veins. Pro pick does not pick up surface copper in the density search mode; but surface copper will show up in the node search mode.

Seraphs are pretty dang fast! Considering that Olympic sprinters cover 400 meters in about 43 seconds (557.75 meters per minute). Further consider that Seraphs are typically lugging around up to a couple hundred pounds in their packs...

I'm willing to bet the Ocean update will be a general water update, including rivers, fishing, boats and other water related mechanics.

Picking up small animals as you would a populated skep.
Maelstrom replied to Ashery's topic in Suggestions
I haven't husbanded chickens yet, but from comments and streams I've seen it seems that chicks run slower than adults which allows for segregating offspring from adults. Haven't tried it yet myself as wild chickens have been plentiful enough to provide what little feathers I've needed. -
I do not. If you are on Discord, you may want to pose your question there as well.

Maelstrom replied to Ashery's topic in Suggestions
I manage generations by separating the offspring into a pen separate from the parents before the offspring grow up. Much easier to wrangle the offspring than the adults, and the offspring have different speed and flee conditions than the adults. -

or forbidden fuel... -
Nope. Except for Carry Capacity and Spyglass the only mods I'm running are strictly QoL (Simple HUD, Fancy Sky, Campaign Cartographer, etc). Not running Farm Life, cages, or any other mod that would impact animals. I think Ashery is right. I may be thinking the ewes got knocked up earlier than they actually did.

I finally upgraded to 1.16.4 a few weeks ago on a fairly new world. I've got 12 day months, it is now Sept 5 and the pregnant sheep haven't given birth yet despite being preggers since mid July. It seems like a lot longer from 1.15.10. Were sheep gestation increased, are my ewes bugged, or am I just watching a pot waiting for the infernal thing to boil?
