  1. What I'm saying is I'm happy enough with the response, and I'm confident it won't happen again from this person based on what was laid out by The Official Statement. I'm not out for blood, and maybe they'll fire him later and that's fine, but I'm satisfied that the problem is resolved and won't happen again from this crew. What I actually think will happen is someone will make something worse in a mod in the future. I've been in the industry long enough to see all sorts of supply chain attacks, and the way vintage story mods work gives way too much power on the local machine. They would have to drastically nerf how mods are allowed and used to stop this from being a real threat in the future. This was just the wake-up call to really be careful. What if the next prolific modder who makes something that is used throughout the community gets their account hacked, and malicious updates get deployed to a new version of the mod, that actually does something legitimately harmful. I'm sure that will happen at some point and we will have to revisit this issue for a different side the same coin.
  2. I'm going to keep playing and recommending the game. Use mods at your own risk people, it was bound to happen eventually. Also don't be surprised if there is worse stuff out there that hasn't been caught yet. I am very picky about mods for this very reason.
  3. Can we just get a single Master thread on this topic if it's going to be kept in this discussion board, and not moved to another? I'm not against having any discussions around it, I just don't want to see 15 topics on the same thing with "up to the minute news coverage" thread spidering out. I'm not on the discord, but Reddit is absolutely overwhelmed.
  4. I would love to see some tea that can be brewed from dried petals as well.
  5. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the behavior of the mod whatsoever. I'm just saying there's a difference between doing this on a mod as a regular old person in the past, compared to doing it actively on software as an employee. I also don't know the employment laws of the country. In the United States, for instance, in many states you can pretty much get fired because of the vibes, and no other real reason needs to be given. In many European countries that could never fly. Getting fired for doing something outside of work not related to the actual activities in the office possibly may not be viable. Looking into this though, it sounds like he mentioned wanting to put something like this in the game proper, and the other devs completely shut him down. There's no way he'd be able to deploy this change without going through the development team cycle, and the fact the other devs and the business has already made it clear they don't want something like this in the game, then it's not going in the game. Something like this was bound to happen in the modding community eventually, I'm at least happy it wasn't something far more malicious like what has been going on with the npm community on repeat. Mods like primitive survival was square in my focus for example, as for a fair amount of time, it added all sorts of features that were completely undeclared and surprised users. They weren't malicious, they were fun, but people did not consent do those features when downloading the mod. At the moment most of those features are toggles that can be turned on and off. There are other mods that have similar problems. At the end of the day, I think it is a bit of an overreaction to stop playing the game that's on your computer right now, as that is not a compromised thing. You can even not update it with any updates if you're truly concerned, as I'm still a few patches behind myself, but I saw no reason to install them at the moment. I'm quite sure that the dev team is fully aware of the backlash, and since they already said no to adding that suggested change to the proper code base of the game, the reaction from them will be far more severe if any attempt from a Dev happens to try and sneak things past code review.
  6. I like the elk, and I'll probably keep riding them over horses. They fill a spot of whimsy for me I didn't know I needed. Love roaming with my antler buddy.
  7. Eh, this would never slip into the game proper in a sneaky way due to "code review" before deployment. Sure hotfixes to adjust side affects happen, but this would get sniffed out quick, and would have bigger professional repercussions. I'm not a heavy mod user so this doesn't really affect me. Partially because running C# DLL files from people I don't know kinda spooks me as a software dev, if I can't see the GitHub code or something. You can do A LOT with that and I don't trust the public with it if they don't let me look at the source.
  8. Thumbnails aside, this channel actually has some good content in the videos. If I had to choose seeing this or the "open mouth surprise face" thumbnails, I'd go for the first. Prob just an older dude not aware of the political climate.
  9. Fish and onion pot pie, and a 3-liter jug of honey does wonders for my digestion.
  10. I'd say turn the difficulty down a bit for world 1 as well as go without any mods. This is your learning world. Allow items to stay on you after death. Give the monster spawn a couple days delay. Turn up the surface copper bits. This gives you breathing time to get used to game mechanics, and have a MUCH better idea of what mods you really would like to improve vanilla play. Do your real world after about 15 hours, enough time to get to copper and dabble in first farms. 1 silly piece of advice I have is try to use granite, chert, or other hard stones for tools and save all your flint for later. Much more valuable for fire clay than a 30th axe.
  11. I tend to lurk more than post/reply but topics that bring up a lot of emotion tend to attract emotional responses. If someone believes all AI use is theft and or is killing the planet, there is a likelihood that there will be a strong emotional response to those who believe you are personally now part of the problem. On the other hand, though, controversial topics tend to be the ones that are worth discussing the most. We all need to leave a little room for nuance in our lives. Rarely are topics truly black and white. Life tends to be a lot more colorful. That being said, I think the combat in the game is fine lol.
  12. Well after some exploring I found a translocator on a pretty easy to reach part of the island. I may make this my next playthrough and come back to this.
  13. I may have to give this one a try and tweak the settings a bit.
  14. Please don't......
  15. "All these squares make a circle"
  16. Ok maybe I'm weird but I LOVE finding and planting fruit trees. Pears and Pink Apples for EVERYONE! 20 trees for by year 3! That and I love bees. I'll fill a whole flatland area with skeps. Set and forget so I can go explore the world more, and bring back my goodies, such as every cattail root that exists in the to feed my problem.
  17. Across 4 worlds each being about 200 hours each, I don't really do animal husbandry. I 100% get the benefit and appeal...but I like to wander a bit too much I think. As long as I have grain, salted meat, and veggies I'm happy. Things that last a long time while I bring my cooking pot and oven with me.
  18. Wanted to share a good seed and settings I found. You can play with the settings a bit but here is what I get as pretty constant around the spawn area. I don't want to spoil too much but there will be bauxite, slate, and limestone areas not too far of a journey in different directions. Some can be walked, but some need a boat. Landcover: 40% Landcover Scale: 100% Upheaval Rate: 30% ---Features Near Spawn--- Yellow Star: Spawn island with a trader.. Green Pick: Iron Rich Island. Orange Pick: Copper Rich Hils Yellow Pick: Cave with Bountiful tin a short way down. Green Apples: Fruit Trees Red Hoe: Red Clay Black Hoe: Peat Blue Hoe: Blue Clay 10272013-settings.txt
  19. Early game wolves are "ruff"
  20. It's hard to pinpoint things that much. When is something considered "awesome"? It's in the eye of the beholder, but we as a group generally know what awesome is. Awesome however can be a bit different from person to person.
  21. Since I replied on your last topic on bosses having planet sized health as forced/artificial difficulty in a specific Final Fantasy game, let me break this down for you. Imagine playing a game about defending the planet from "Crab Monsters". Now imagine that there is a "Boss Crab" on each region of the planet you have to defeat. Each boss crab is the exact same in its attack style (other than some randomness on attack order) where it has 5 attacks that can be dodged if you memorize movement patters, and 1 splash damage attack that can't be dodged so you have to have high HP and heal during the battle. Every boss crab is the same mechanic, just with a different character model, and each "Boss Crab" has more HP and does more damage than the previous. You level up your HP and healing by defeating lots of "Standard Crabs" during gameplay. That is the only way to increase your level. Is the "Boss Crab" that killed you 4 times actually difficult to defeat? You memorized its attack patterns, but it kills you with the attack that can't be avoided eventually because it hurts too much, and you can't heal enough HP in time between. Now if you go kill 800 "Standard Crabs" you may level up and have enough HP to defeat it next time. Then the next boss needs another 900, then the next 1200, etc. That to me is artificial difficulty. There is nothing you can do but slog through the game the way it was designed to add extra hours.
  22. I like that this game is just hard enough without making it feel like it's being artificial about it. Remember those final fantasy boss fights that were hard because the enemy HP is just the size of a planet? That kind of difficulty I despise. This game usually lets me know that I am the one that messed up. Can't make any baskets or other things out of cattails, because I ate all the roots in the area? That's my fault. Having a hard time making copper tools because I didn't mark down where all the bits were and used them all in a 5,000 block radius? That's my fault. Didn't bother making any food storage for the winter and now I'm having a hard time? That's my fault. Etc etc. The game can be punishing, but it's usually fair about it.
  23. Plenty of people have been playing this game, you can see all sorts of YouTubers and streamers now, and the game has been available publicly for years. That being said, if you are downloading from the main site you're good. If you are getting a free key from someone on a random discord group, and they send you an executable file for the game, absolutely do not use that lol.
  24. This sounds like you're experiencing solar eclipses I've only had 4 in about 150 hours of gameplay, but they all happened in pairs close together. The red glow is probably a bugged light source. If it was near a fire pit or other fire source, I've had that same glowing red night light. If it happens again try placing a torch down right in the middle and then pick it back up
