Cattastrafy Posted February 23, 2025 Report Posted February 23, 2025 Heya friends! Started another single player last week, noticed something weird that I'm pretty sure I hadn't noticed before. When harvesting resin in this world, there seems to be a chance (25% or so?) that I do NOT receive resin upon harvesting it off the tree. It clears it off the tree for a week like expected, but does not populate in my inventory. I've tried with different things in my hands, same effect all around. I can't find anything on the net about this feature. Is it a bug? Is this just how it works in others' experiences? I have two mods, forget names but they're the ones that highlight your arrows/spears and thing that shows your chunk you just used prospect pick in. I should prob disable and test it later but wasn't sure if I'm nuts here or not. Thanks!
idiomcritter Posted February 23, 2025 Report Posted February 23, 2025 something sounds not right. can't recall ever not gaining resin i'm actively havesting. the only issue is if my inventory is full, in which case the resin falls to the ground. so yeah, kinda sounds like a bug 1 1
Cattastrafy Posted February 23, 2025 Author Report Posted February 23, 2025 I'll have to report after checking without mods, thanks for input!
Cetasaya Posted February 23, 2025 Report Posted February 23, 2025 Check if your inventory is full when you harvest. Resin is hard to see on the ground. And the inventory fills up FAST when we're wandering around gathering and scavenging and its very easy to break and run without realising your inventory is full of dirt and rocks.
Vratislav Posted February 23, 2025 Report Posted February 23, 2025 Do you play commoner? If not, your class may have a negative trait on forage. 2

Nothing like 25% though. That's a thing? Thought it'd reduce harvested drops down to 1 worst case scenario and not down to 0 damn. And the wiki states its 15% so well under the human perception's margins of error and simple unluckiness. Their class actually might be the answer. Seems very likely. Whats your class OP? Zane Mordien Posted February 24, 2025 Report Posted February 24, 2025 I could be wrong, I was hoping someone who reads the code would say if that was true or not. Regardless, I play blackguard 90% of the time and I have no problem getting resin. Once I kill all the bears and wolves guarding the trees that is.
LadyWYT Posted February 24, 2025 Report Posted February 24, 2025 I play Blackguard as well, and occasionally fail to harvest resin. Most of the time it drops, but sometimes it doesn't. I believe resin counts as a foraged material, similar to mushrooms, so Blackguard suffers a similar penalty to the drop chance with it. 3

Thorfinn Posted February 24, 2025 Report Posted February 24, 2025 It's interesting how little/much in the game is affected by forageStatAffected. There was only 1 surprise. Cattastrafy Posted February 24, 2025 Author Report Posted February 24, 2025 THATS IT! I'm a gd blackguard hahaha. Explains it, thanks. Maybe 25% was an over estimation or a high end on the bad luck at times. Good news is I have tons of resin marked and it's not a huge problem, was just pulling my hair out trying to figure out what caused that. 2
Cetasaya Posted February 26, 2025 Report Posted February 26, 2025 More good news is that resin isnt THAT important or used much. Its used only for lamellar armor and mechanical parts. In vanilla. For now. Essential, yes, but once you got your windmill(s) up you're gucci. Of course, if you need it and you aint got it and you dont really need any other foragables or trades at that moment, its a pain to have to hunt down when you just just want to freaking grind grain or halite lol 1

I sincerely think resin could just be removed completely and the game would just be better. Ohhh nooo... now I don't have to carry a freaking cooking pot to this ruin and cook some damn glue just to bring home a stupid decoration... my experience is ruined...

Yeah it either needs more uses or it needs to go imo. We got resin but not delicious maple syrup? Cmon man.

The problem with glue is that it is too expansive to repair the clutter and whole pot of glue suffices to repair only two pieces. Bringing multipart banner from a tomb takes such amount of resin like to make a clutch. 1
