And I thought at least one person claimed they were unable to get two sets of crops to mature before first winter, The change was that amount of nutrients consumed by crops made medium soil very exhausted for last 1-2 stages of growth. That made the last growth phases several times longer. But it was in pre-1, haven't tested these changes in latest releases as it requires 20+ hours of playing.

I can verify that a lot of crops are struggling in the last growth stages in 1.22 rc2. A lot of them seem to get stuck at 33% growth for a good month or two, and the especially unlucky ones can get down to 0% N and 11% growth. This is on medium fertility soil, first planting and/or second planting using a different crop type (N/K/P). Needless to say, I'll be lucky to get a second harvest this year - I'm near the end of October and a lot of them are at 7/9 stages... 1

It's a good workaround if you have lore content enabled and a few rusty gears lying around. Traders seem much rarer in 1.22. I've only seen a few, and none so far have had lime or salt, whereas in 1.21 there were traders everywhere. I did finally find some borax, though, so that's good. Took a long time.

I don't know that they're rarer, persay. I think it's more that their spawn pattern is a little more irregular now, and the little outposts don't stand out quite as much as the wagons. So far, the distance between traders seems roughly the same, but I've also found several instances where there'd be 2-3 traders within a short stroll of each other, and other instances of a relatively large swath of wilderness with not a soul to be found. I will note that while Survival Goods/Commodities traders often have lime/salt for sale, it's not all the time either. Sometimes they need a week or two to "get the shipment in", so to speak. 1
D1rtyS04p Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 I'm not reading all 4 pages of this discussion, so here's my take on this. I totally agree. We work to live. We play games to relax and have fun. Games that go overboard with realism are NOT fun. Why come home after a 8-12 hour day (or more) and work some more? Just my 2 cents. I see we have some people in this discussion who favor pain in our games. "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." - Someone smart once said. (works perfectly in this argument about game development)
Emeal Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 I'd like to add to this conversation that, the journey is why I like Vintage Story it is a journey to find what I need or discover a method for getting it. That being said, Vintage Story should contain other methods to gain this. Examples: Fishing for shells would yield both food and a shell pile over time. This could happen at both rivers, lakes and the Sea. Any settlement that would Fish would automatically have shell piles, its natural waste from humans feeding on these delicious creatures. Also Oceans would also wash up millions of shells, which would be used by us. It would be hard to gather but its there. 1

However there is already a thread for the same topic: Shellfish! There could even be clam digging which might require some dexterity to respond quickly (to surface evidence of their presence in wet sand) before they escape. Fiddling to make space on your hotbar too long? Too bad! eta: I think this is such a good idea -- we should promote that Shellfish! thread! Edited March 19 by dakko
Lithembia Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 I thought borax was a myth and then I finally found it. After several unsuccessful mine shafts in a 1.5‰ area I found a cave entrance and was going to probe it for distribution. As I was digging I saw a blotchy ore lower down and thought "I wonder what that is" just as my pick, which was accidentally still set on node search, told me there was a large amount of borax like RIGHT THERE. Still waiting for the devs to implement halite in the game. 1

Tagging on to what @PoisonedPawn777 already said--halite already spawns in natural deposits, but only in layers of sediment rock. The thicker the sediment layers, the better. It also tends to be difficult to find via prospecting, in that it's easy to find readings but hard to actually find the deposits. I think the optimal strategy here is to find a reading and then go explore the nearby caves to see if any deposits are exposed--my friend and I have stumbled across halite deposits in this fashion. If you're in a warmer climate, it's also worth searching the deserts for dry lake beds, as those will also contain halite deposits. In those cases, it's just a matter of digging underneath the sand and gravel in areas that look suspiciously like former lakes--the halite should be right underneath. I will note though this really only applies to 1.22, as the dry lake bed spawns seem to be bugged in 1.21. Edited March 20 by LadyWYT
Lithembia Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 I was joking, I know people claim to have seen it. It could all be a conspiracy, though. 1

D1rtyS04p Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 (edited) Yeah. all my nice large hides are going to rot or spoil or disappear or whatever since i can't find the stuff i need to make leather. oh i finally found borax but guess what? I need tier 3 to mine it.. FML. Tier 3?! Holy crap! I can't even find the stuff i need for bronze! I mean I found a couple little chunks of tin and dug til my pickaxe wore out... couldn't find anymore.... Can we please consider people live actual real life and don't have a bajillion years to play a real life simulation? FFS. This "game" is a beautiful tease... Edited March 20 by D1rtyS04p

If you're playing with lore content enabled, Survival Goods and Commodities traders will sometimes have tin, bismuth, and zinc for sale, all of which can be used to create bronze alloys. Some traders will also sell bronze picks--I think the Survival Goods traders sell these but I'm not 100% certain. Panning bony soil can also yield nuggets of silver and gold--two of each can create enough black bronze for a pick or other tool. 28 minutes ago, D1rtyS04p said: I mean I found a couple little chunks of tin and dug til my pickaxe wore out... couldn't find anymore.... When digging up ore deposits, it's a good idea to bring a prospecting pick and use the Node Search feature to see if there is any ore remaining. Also keep in mind that most ores spawn in flat discs, and rough terrain can offset those discs, so you may need to dig higher or lower in order to claim all of the ore blocks.
Lollard Posted March 22 Report Posted March 22 (edited) This should tie into the prospecting system. When you take a sample using the prospecting pick, it could say "traces of [rock from neighboring rock strata]". So if you sample an andesite zone that borders a chalk zone and a claystone zone it'd say "traces of chalk and claystone". This would help you narrow down where to look. Edited March 22 by Lollard 1

Keep in mind the ore deposits follow the natural terrain. So if there is upheaval of 5 blocks on the surface, then the ore will shift up 5 blocks. If you found exposed tin on the side of a mountain it is a great find, but it can be hard to follow the deposit becuase it goes up and down like crazy. 1
