Hello,

My question is essentially the title of the thread, though more specifically I am referring to some of the "most downloaded" content mods, some of which by now are pretty much required for me haha. I am talking about mods like better ruins, combat overhaul, culinary artillery, and especially combat overhaul armory and firearms (which I think fits very well with the theme of the game, you may disagree). I am sure that in time many of the aspects of these mods will be added in future major updates, though for example Better Ruins (I consider this a must-have by now), I really wish some or all of that mod could somehow be added to the base game as it stands, since I especially love the larger castle and cathedral ruins in the mod, but am not sure if this is really feasible considering it is someone else's work, whereas the VS devs might rather create larger ruins from scratch, which would obviously take a lot of time and resources. If this is something the devs are generally against doing I could understand why, though I can't think of too many reasons other than wanting to avoid "taking" a modder's project away from them, even if it does add to the base gameplay. I understand there is a lot I don't know about game development and modding so please explain if possible, and I am asking just as a fan of the game who would love to see some of my favorite mods as part of the base game someday.

Welcome to the forums, @ThePeterCopter

Some mods, yeah, pretty sure they will happen. Or at least the ideas incorporated. But mostly small things like CarryOn, which has been hinted at several times in the past. There will be new recipes, but I doubt a full embrace of EF. There will be more ruins added, but probably not anywhere close to BetterRuins, as BR posits a world quite a little different than the existing lore does. The grunting stick from Primitive Survival did make 1.22. CO, probably not, though combat will get expanded when status effects get added. Firearms definitely not, or at least that was the official word a couple years ago.

I think the best guide is going to be does it ding performance? I'd think most of those will never become vanilla, as there is a conscious decision to support what richer countries think of as "potatoes". Particularly since the vision is MP servers of 200 players or more, and there's only so much of that you can push off onto client side without creating rampant cheating opportunities.

This is one reason why I'm not really a fan of Better Ruins. I have a better PC now than when I tried the mod, but still...I appreciate what it does, but I don't want my game to hiccup because it's trying to generate a mega-mansion.

Also, welcome to the forums! Echoing Thorfinn's sentiments, it depends on what the mod does and whether or not it really fits the devs' vision. Popular mods are good candidates for things that could be added to the game, but just because a mod is popular doesn't mean it's necessarily a good idea to add.

I see, thank you both for the responses, that makes sense. I see what you mean about better ruins not quite "matching" with the current lore, I sometimes forget there are structures like the coal mine and roman baths, I definitely see why those are out of place. Hopefully they will eventually add the castles and larger underground dungeons like BR has to the main game, as those are the main parts I like about the mod. On another note I also sure hope EF and CA can get updates for 1.22 soon-ish, afaik they're still in testing for 1.21.

Was this the word in reference to guns in general or was it specifically about those kinds of older firearms in the mod? Not that it makes a difference I'm just curious.

It was maybe 1.17? There may have been a firearms mod around at the time, I don't recall. Definitely was not with reference to any of the current firearms mods.

My brief experience with any of those was that it required some serious encounters, like the Phanerozoic ("dinosaurs") series for it to not trivialize gameplay. I think it's likely that the scrap bomb is intended to be the endpoint of chemical weapons tech.

I doubt it. Find yourself a potato and see for yourself what it does when you approach one of those bigger ruins. Chiseling makes for some great looking structures, but locks you into a higher end machine. Remember, the official machine minimums are still i3+GTX440.

That's not to say you can't have servers that are performance hogs, and let players self-select into it, knowing that their machine won't do well, but most people will not tolerate that kind of framerate.

Yes.  Sometime in the past Tyron has stated firearms of any kind will not be in the base game.
