Calo-Mari Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 As 1.22 gets nearer and nearer, I haven’t been able to make up my mind about which of two scenarios I wanted to pick for my new world. For a bit of context, this will be a modded world, I’m trying to put in a bunch of mods to make the game more realistic: science smithy; hydrate or diedrate; etc. Aside from realism, I’m hoping to use world gen mods like Terra Prety and that fancy new Watersheds mod to get some interesting and beautiful terrain. Additionally, I should note that I am currently in a generally warm area in my current VS world, and I haven’t had a true winter in at least a year in real life. Part of what makes this a tough choice for me is that I want to try and navigate the dangers of a cold land, but I also want the classic and beautiful vibes of the tropical survival. I appreciate anyone who decides to drop their two cents in the poll!
Michael Gates Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 Long, cold winters are just.. boring, unless you've got some particular indoorsy project like making a statue of Kermit the Frog.
EnbyKaiju Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 I've done a lot of ice-ball earth runs so can say that starting up in the colder polar/tundra regions make for a heck of a playthrough. You need to be a lot more aware of your resources, and it can help a lot with training up your ranged combat abilities, you just need to make sure you've got some plans for the long dark winter months. If you want more of a challenge, 100% recommend the cold-zone. What you can do is maybe work on creating a lush indoor garden space that gives you that feeling of being in a tropical area. I did that on my frozen long-term world and it's a real delight tracking down every possible flower, mushroom & tree sapling to make something beautiful amid the ice. 2
LadyWYT Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 I voted for Mix, but want to elaborate on why: rather than do a snowy island, you might try the Patchwork world type. While it's completely unrealistic, it does make for a very different playthrough when you can have a tropical jungle right next to an arctic glacier. Alternatively, you could also just shorten the polar-equator distance and build bases in both the arctic and tropics, and simply migrate between them.
RockBard Posted March 25 Report Posted March 25 I'd recommend somewhere coastal to get the most out of the new fishing regardless of temp. Between the tropics and the arctic I'd say go somewhere warm, there will be more content to play around with in general and it is hard to get through those 24-hour nights at the poles unless you have a strong vision keeping you there.
