Hello!

While getting cornered and mauled by some sheep I have, I realized just how many ways there are to die in this game.

I thought it would be interesting to see what people’s opinions on the “best” way to die is.

Poisoning with a stew generously prepared by a friend is a strong contender for me. My favorite, though, is accidentally picking up the rope ladder too fast while leaving a mineshaft. Genuinely haven't died to anything more than that.

I voted "death by bears/wolves" since that is one of the better ways to go--it happens very quickly and can happen on any of the default survival modes, plus there is a reason that the Wolfbait reaction exists.

That being said...death by starvation has one of the funniest messages: "Player thought food was optional."

Also worth noting that there are some species-specific death messages when it comes to goats.

Can't say that I can vote as my "best or funniest" ways of dying are typically a 1-2 combo punch from out of nowhere.  Getting headbutted off my mountaintop forge by a ram is the best one.   I believe I posted a story about that in another thread.  Then there's the friendly neighborhood drifter enclave I discovered after a sandy cornice gave way under me, also posted in previously mentioned thread.

I just love Tyron's sarcastic messages, primarily the death screen that congratulates you for dying.

This just happened to me for the first time the other day. I even gave myself what I thought was an adequate head start, but alas.

What's really fun is climbing that rope ladder out of a mosh pit of death drifters spelunking down around the mantle and getting dropped back into said mosh pit of death drifters.

I voted for poison because hiding THIS in my friend groups food stores will always be my favorite pastime.
As much as I love the essential and almost required vintage story experience of getting jumped by two wolf packs and a jetpack bear... something about myself or a friend keeling over because we ate something we shouldn't have always puts a massive grin on my face.
(am I evil?)

Many strong contenders for the "best" death, so I'd vote that they're all the best in their own specific scenarios.

One idea:
Jumping over a deep pit while making your way home, bumping your head on branchy leaves, and falling to your demise.

I voted mauled by bear but wanted to specify, it has to be a surprise bear.  One of the ones that sneak up on you when you are doing something else entirely.

My response would be "the other bear". The one that pops out of the bushes when you move in to engage the first one.

Voted bears/wolves like most have, though combination of bear/wolf attack and falling is still my most memorable (turns out yes, you do need to be situationally aware and mind the sinkholes as you run away from bears)

If the player dies to drifters, should the death message be "Player drifted off to sleep"? 🤔

While that is very punny, it lacks a certain... sardonic joie de vivre.
