If I go cave exploring I take at least a full stack of torches if not two stacks. These days I don't do a lot of cave exploring to be honest though. Not much reward for the risk/annoyance.

I was unable to make that work myself. I'm sure there is a way but you got me on how to do it.

The light level has to be above 7 to stop "cave" spawns in the normal game. The temporal weather also impacts how fast they spawn. If it is "calm" then they will spawn a slower and at "very high" or "apocalyptic" they will spawn very fast. The drifters can spawn around you anywhere at anytime when you are in a cave if you didn't light it up. Even if you have a torch they can spawn just a few blocks away or anywhere the light level is not high enough to stop them from spawning.

A few combat things I think the engine could possibly do.

Nice list of ideas. -
People are allowed to give feedback even if you don't agree. You don't need to throw snark at everyone who posts.

I'm the opposite, I find so much surface copper i don't bother with deep copper unless I run into it looking for tin or iron.

Interesting. I think your only option would have to be a Mod. The only setting I can find is False or True for "passtimewhenempty", but that would be interesting to just slow down time when empty.

Well I'm no help, but I'll bump the thread for you. It happens sometimes to me and my son when we are playing on the server in our house, so the port forwarding isn't the issue for me since we are connecting to the servers home network IP and not the router's IP. I usually have to reboot the server to get it to stop doing it. It doesn't happen very often to us, but it's only 2 of us so I'm sure it shows up more with more people.

5-7 blocks doesn't seem weird to me. It's not normal but I've had a few that way.

If no one is watching does a bear in the forest exist? I guess not by that logic.

The "lore" answer doesn't really work because he has said in interviews that they just haven't gotten around to upgrading all of the animal behavior. I don't expect them to reprogram bears to bring you coffee and biscuits every morning, but more diverse behavior would be nice. I fully expect they will tone down bears and add mountain lions to make up for it. Lol

I don't even noticed the hunger rate difference when in play other classes. Food is so easy to get once you get the hang of it.

Using DB Prune to regenerate chunks near my home.
Zane Mordien replied to SubtleOrc's topic in Questions
It's not in the exact same location in my experience. I did this in a chunk near an existing trader and it generated another trader. So now I have 2 traders a couple chunks apart. Of course one is a furniture trader so I really just have one trader. -
Is it possible to have a "max reading" of Decent?
Zane Mordien replied to vinnland's topic in Discussion
Decent is great iron reading anyway. Chromite sucks. -
Using DB Prune to regenerate chunks near my home.
Zane Mordien replied to SubtleOrc's topic in Questions
You can also /wgen regen X , where x is a radius of chunks around you. It completely regens the world in those chunks, but if you aren't near your base or anything you care about, its fine. -
You can store stuff in their chests safely on a single player game. Their carts are protected by land claim so you can't take anything, but it's free storage early on.

Listen to idiomcritter, Iron plate armor is over preparing. Healing is VERY important when fighting the Mongolian hoard as they deal death by a thousand cuts. Scale or chain will serve you way better and bring healing items. Good luck, the first story location is nice.

It's the "serverconfig.json" file in the vintagestoryData folder. You can also change these manually when you load into the world and then do a /wgen regen X , where X is a chunk radius around you. These are the lines that control landcover. These are my settings for continents with oceans around them. It sort of works. "landcover": "0.7", "oceanscale": "1.25", (Anything more than this and I just had nothing but islands) "upheavelCommonness": "0", "landformScale": "1.2",

Hard to say since that is a pretty generic message when it refuses a connection. Is the sever on your personal network?

Animals shouldn't despawn in valid "rooms" even in total darkness
Zane Mordien replied to Spyromancy's topic in Suggestions
I question that 14 day despawn as well. Until I kill the bear or wolves they are always there in my experience. -
I rarely ever use linen sacks. Certain special scenarios like "snowball earth" where there are no oak trees you pretty much need to use them until you can get the new hardened leather backpacks. Normal playthroughs I usually find 1 linen sack in a ruin and wait for leather backpacks.

@ifoz thank you. This was bugging me because it sounded so familiar but i couldnt put my finger on why.

I would try a fresh install of the game. I have 3 installations of the game running on my home server. They are named vs1, vs2 and vs4. Vs3 worked for about a week and I've never been able to connect to it outside my network ever again. I had to reinstall and move the saved file to install vs4. Did they update the sever configuration file in the new update? Even if they didn't check to make sure everything matches your port settings.
