  1. Are you sure? ...the first moment i start VS after installing it, i am greeted with a "login" screen, and unless i supply my valid login credentials (and get verified), i cannot play the game, not even in single player. Without logging in at some point and then having a valid token somewhere thanks to that, i cannot play the game. EDIT: i am not complaining, just saying.
  2. @Krougal Aaah, OK, thanks for the translation True, that is annoying - i have currently both rc3 and rc4 installed, and every time i run one after the other, to test something, i have to login again. Fortunately i am not switching between them too often, but i can see how super annoying that could be.
  3. Fire arrows! YES! Shoot them at enemies to set them on fire (together with everything else around :)) And a special variant to be used as a flare that slowly descends to the ground. There is nothing i wouldn't like.
  4. What mods do you plan on using, if any? I am looking for people to play with, but i too want to run my own server so i can choose the mods and setup everything the way I prefer it I know... very selfish But if your idea of mods and how you wanna play it would be close to mine, i would probably like to join. Hmm, but only around 5 people? that seems rather limited Do you plan to rent/host a 24/7 server, or just a locally hosted game that will run just sometimes and require more organizing to gather everyone at ~same time.
  5. Wait, after reading it all again, i think maybe i understand what you mean... By "different configurations" you probably mean mods, right? And in that context, by "security issues" you mean the possibility that by connecting to some server your client may automatically download some mod which could contain some malicious code? Yeah, that is always the possibility if you connect to random modded servers. I guess you have two options: Play only vanilla, no mods. Use precautions. - Do not run the game with elevated privileges. - Do not connect to random servers. - Download mods manually and scan them with some AV before using them (may still not be enough anyway). - Run the game in a secure sandbox (sure, malware capable of escaping does exist, but is relatively rare - if you combine all these precautions, you should be reasonably safe). So if this is what you meant, then i understand. But nothing is safe, nothing ever was safe, nothing ever will be. Any SW, games included, has the potential to be exploited, and the only thing you can do is "be careful".
  6. What security issues? VS has some security issues? I mean KNOWN security issues? Or even theoretical security issues? Like if i run a server, somebody can exploit some weakness to take over my machine???
  7. That should be enough RAM to try disabling the "RAM Optimization" setting, and see if that changes anything. Look up "OptimizeRamMode" on this wiki page and follow the instructions.I am not saying it will help, but it is one thing to try. EDIT: also, reading that whole wiki page is a very good idea too.
  8. What is your view distance and what is the server view distance? Your machine may not be generating new chunks, but it needs to receive that data from the server (amongst other things). Maybe the server is where the bottleneck is, or maybe the network. What happens if you run the game locally (without separate server)? (best to try with the same world settings including seed) Also, if you are using mods, maybe some mod could be responsible.
  9. I'd like to have rivers and waterwheels. (better if the rivers would have current, but even without a current it would be still way better than not having rivers and waterwheels) I would also love to have what i call "infinite water". So when you dig a ditch leading to a water source, the water source would fill that ditch with flowing water no matter how long it is. I was very disappointed the first time i dug a little watering canal for my field, and the water went in just two blocks and stopped. I was even more disappointed when the same happened with a little stream i planned to go through a garden behind my house. And i cannot imagine how any of that could be a problem for progression or a balancing issue. The game already has windmills, which are waterwheels powered by air instead of water and using sails instead of wood. And "infinite water" is much more immersive than the opposite. I am not saying i want some super uber Advanced Hydrodynamics to be part of a vanilla game, but i wouldn't mind - provided that the very basic stuff i mentioned above will get added first
  10. @Spear and Fang Thank you. I will try that.
  11. Do you happen to know of such a mod? I have a similar/related problem (https://www.vintagestory.at/forums/topic/16808-new-type-of-ingot-how/) and i searched the modDb for mods related to Smithing, but didn't find a single one that would be ADDING a new metal (i think i found some replacing/modifying existing metals, but that doesn't help).
  12. Hmm, that may not be a terrible idea
  13. Thank you, i know about that mod, but it doesn't fix the immersion problem for me. Also, when possible (TBD in this case), i prefer simple JSON based mods (simple to make, or easy to update if original author didn't).
  14. I made a new type of ingot called "Small Ingot" - it is like a regular ingot, but smaller. PROBLEM: I am unable to place it on the forge - when i try, nothing happens (and no errors in the logs) I can drop it on the ground, pick it up, place it on the ground and make a pile, but forge? nope. What do i need to do, to make the ingot place-able on a forge? Here is the itemtypes\resource\small-ingot.json For those wondering why...
  15. I haven't gave up on them yet. After some more time (and more patches) i will try to bring it up again.
  16. I always delay Monsters by 10 days. It became a habit after the first time i did it. What made me do it the first time, you ask? Well... when i got the game, i quickly realized how great it is, but i wanted to play it with my friends. I got the family pack with another 4 keys and gave them to some of my friends who used to play that other block game. Then things went terribly wrong... My plan was to ease my friends into the game on my server, to curate their first experience. But they didn't waste any time and before i gave away the last key, two of them already had their own server running. I spent some time solving connection issues, while two of them were already punching trees and scratching their heads, and BURNING THE DAYLIGHT AWAY. When i finally joined their server, it was just about to get dark. Friends kept wasting daylight, trying to do what they knew from that other block game, while i kept explaining stuff. Of course i tried to explain that there are things we MUST do before the night comes. And then the night came. It was pitch black, and everyone was surprised that they can't see anything. I was frantically blind-building a quick mud hut to hide in, while hearing my friends shout things like "What the...?", "Ouch!", "What?!", "Why is my health down?", accompanied by a cacophony of flying rocks and grunting of Drifters. Then somebody yelled "WHY IS THE FLOOR BLOOD???" (no idea what the heck was that about) and a few second after we were all dead. And that was the end. I tried to explain that the game is great once you start playing instead of punching trees like a moron... that it is highly customizable and we can set things exactly the way we want them to be... but nobody listened and the game was deemed unworthy of their time. Few weeks later i managed to pull back in one friend. And THAT was the first time i set the 10 day delay for Monsters, to have the time to gently explain things without us dying every 10 seconds. We kept playing for a few months (real time) and it was great, but sadly, others never came around.
  17. I will do some testing later, because i am curious about it myself now.
  18. Hard to say. I didn't take any measurements and set it to 0 based on some explanation i read. The way i understood it was: no reason to bother with RAM "optimization" if you have more than enough - even if it doesn't help, it won't hurt. I have 64 GB. I want to say that it did help with occasional, stronger stuttering, when moving rapidly over long distances. Like when flying around in Creative mode, checking if the worldgen works fine after updating mods like Better Ruins or whatnot. But when it comes to normal gameplay... i don't know. It is possible that my computer is still decent enough to make the potential benefits hard to notice. For comparison, my computer specs are: CPU: i7-13700KF RAM: 64GB RAM DDR5 5600MHz/CL40 GPU: GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12G MB: Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX Or maybe it is the other way - maybe with my HW and game settings, the benefits aren't strong enough to make a noticeable difference.
  19. How did you manage to be able to put your new ingots in a forge? I am trying to do something similar, but i am unable to place my ingots in the forge. I can place them on the ground, but nothing happens when i try to put them in forge - can't even find any errors in the logs.
  20. I couldn't help it and kept expecting to hear the narration in a David Attenborough's voice
  21. I am sorry, but your checklist is garbage. But you can fix it by add the tasks you forgot: Get eaten by an angry boar. Get mauled by a sneaky bear. Get ass torn by a pack of wolves. Fall into a hole and die. Fall in a deep hole in the rock, without pickaxe.
  22. Regarding the in-game VSync... I used to experience very mild, but frequent stuttering with in-game VSync - it was barely noticeable, but still felt weird. It stopped after i set the in-game VSync to OFF and only use the Max FPS of 63 (using a 60Hz display). (also not using frame rate limit or VSync in Nvidia control panel - i did not test how that feels) I have Nvidia 4070S, and i play in 1080p, but with high-ish graphics settings (in spoiler). Here is an in-game FPS graph. As you can see, both VSync options come with a subtle frame rate jitter that goes under 60 FPS. With VSync OFF, that downward jitter is gone, the lows are nicely flat, never going under 60 (well, 61 to be exact).
  23. As it is now, the game uses 3 types of crosshair, each using separate texture file: - assets\game\textures\gui\target.png - assets\game\textures\gui\targetfriendly.png - assets\game\textures\gui\targethostile.png I HATE CROSSHAIR in games. I can't stand having some dot or crosshair constantly present in the middle of my screen, staring back at me. I can't think of anything else that breaks my immersion as a crosshair/dot, no matter the game (yes, even in FPS games). So, i remove the crosshair. In Vintage Story, i can make a simple mod that replaces the textures mentioned above, with empty/transparent textures. (i actually replace only the first two, keeping the red crosshair that shows when targeting enemy creatures) So far so good. That said, the crosshair can be really really useful when chiseling. Sure, i mostly use Left Alt and use the mouse to point at a voxel i want to remove/add, but often enough i also do it without using Left Alt - at which moment, it would be really nice to have some crosshair. So i suggest adding another crosshair texture that would be used to display crosshair only when chiseling: - assets\game\textures\gui\targetchisel.png
  24. LOL, or you know... just throw a bunch of stacks of dirt into a friends house! Aaaah, that would sooo evil, but i don't think i could resist
  25. I partially like the idea, provided of course that it would be possible to switch the feature Off in the world config (should be Off by default). I would want the feature to affect only various rocks/dirt/etc. that are normally part of the terrain. So when it comes to items like flax and whatnot, those would still disappear after some time as it is now. It could even be a useful feature. Need to fill a hole? Just gather a stack of dirt, throw it in the hole and wait (or rather, go about your usual business, instead of having to manually fill the hole block by block). And watching the mentioned "explosive expansion" of the blocks would be fun too - i can see myself doing it a few times just for the giggles.
