williams_482 Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Moose cavalry were probably never attempted, as of the two alleged examples one comes from sources writing over 200 years after the fact, and the other is explicitly an April Fools prank that gained traction in foreign language newspapers. However, reindeer riding is a real thing, even today, and I'll hazard a guess that this could have inspired the choice of Elk over moose or sheep as the mount of choice.
-Glue- Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Honestly, I love that its not a horse. It makes VS feels more distinct and whimsical. I think it would be neat if they added more non-traditional mounts. Imagine being able to find, or breed a dire wolf that you could use as a mount. Or tame a dolphin to hold onto while swimming. Maybe even some tameable rust corrupted creatures in the future? Or a mechanical creature for completing the story, or a late game dungeon? Lots of interesting ways they could go with it! Heck, I've been wanting to learn to make mods for VS lately, so maybe I can look into custom mounts once I learn the basics. That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to normal horses being added either. I just personally would chose the more interesting options every time lol. At the very least, horses would make getting a mount easier, and add variety. 2

They aren't exactly mindless beasts, but the mind that is present is not one that can be reasoned with. Regarding mechanical creatures, I think this would be a good late game bit of tech, though I'm not sure how one would acquire it. However...(major spoilers ahead) Spoiler As far as I can tell, we don't actually kill the Mad Crow during the Tower fight of chapter two. We damage it enough to cause it to retreat, and to my knowledge it doesn't return to the Tower after the Lens is removed, but there's not exactly wreckage to go examine after the fight either. It's possible the Mad Crow could still be functional and make a return later in the story. If it does, that would be a potential opportunity to somehow salvage the mechanical beast and use it for a mount, though I'm not sure that flight such as this is really intended for the game. 1 hour ago, -Glue- said: That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to normal horses being added either. I can't imagine they wouldn't add horses sooner or later. Horses are a standard farm and transport animal, as well as a favorite animal of many people. And like you said, there's lots of variety. I'd hope to at least see a classic horse as well as a draft horse option, as well as an Akhal Teke coat coloring as a very rare option. 1
SnapJelly Posted September 1 Report Posted September 1 Because this is a videogame and this is more fun!
River Oak Posted September 1 Report Posted September 1 Horses are confirmed to be coming soon™. I'm excited at the possibility of VS becoming the premier horse girl game. So many others miss the mark in so many ways, but VS could be the one.
Sparticus247 Posted September 2 Report Posted September 2 I like the elk, and I'll probably keep riding them over horses. They fill a spot of whimsy for me I didn't know I needed. Love roaming with my antler buddy. 1
Zaph42nd Posted September 2 Report Posted September 2 Elks are just more aesthetically unique I think, also probably was more straightforward to implement and test mount/riding mechanics on an already-existing creature rather than make a new one. I still think elks will have some appeal even with horses being added soon, maybe more specialized roles for each mount soon?
MacIsCheesy Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 It's a design choice most likely. The game does have a very esoteric feel aesthetically
