fromtia Posted June 27, 2025 Report Posted June 27, 2025 I'm not exactly proud, I didn't know this was a viable tactic, but I found out you can drown bears. Ambushed by two female black bears in the deep woods, I ran for the lake. Lake was too small to really get away from them, so I went in circles hoping for an opening to get to shore and get away, both bears swimming in hot pursuit. Lake was deep, so I went deep and stayed down there for a moment....and both bears drowned. If you are new like me and you didnt know you can drown bears, you can drown bears. 7 1 10 2 1
Echo Weaver Posted June 27, 2025 Report Posted June 27, 2025 Dur. I wonder if this is a failure of imagination on the part of the devs? Then again, VS wildlife aren't exactly the same as their real analogues, and of course they're far more vicious.

IIRC it was added a couple builds after they introduced them... same time they added being able to climb three-block walls, maybe? It sounds like they're getting a little less aggressive in 1.21, and I hope it doesn't ruin this tactic.

Ravensblade Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 3x3 pit can be easily jumped over when running while catching whatever fallows you. The only problem could be having 4 deep earth layer, as you can't easily mine rock at the game start and building up mound have it's own problems. Bears also can't enter 1-block wide corridors.

blowup Posted May 25 Report Posted May 25 I found it rather easy to defeat them by locking myself in a block hut and poking at them with a spear through a hole. It wasn't even planned out; it just happened naturally, and it worked so well I just kept doing it since…

It wasn't even planned out; it just happened naturally, and it worked so well I just kept doing it since… welcome to the forums! this strategy is so good, tried and true. we did something similar by using the arrow slits in the entry room to a gatehouse, the zone must've been a forest originally since bears just came out everywhere, so someone would lure the bear into the double doors, and we'd all take turns spearing it from the tiny openings.. 1
