Oh I saw this post somewhere else besides bsky. It lets blocks be placed on top of gear axles without interfering with them spinning, so you don't have to rip open a hole in your room just to have mechanical power in it I think.

I've just assumed that they use Discord as the dumping ground for various vague snippets, and use the forums to condense all the extraneous information into a much more polished, readable format. That is, the stuff you read about in the forum news posts is the actual implementation of stuff that's going to be in the game, and not so much just the bare workings of an idea.

I agree. A proper bearing block would be much nicer.
This does kind of look like a regular block smacked on top of an existing block, rather than a "dedicated block" that looks fit for the intended purpose.
Maybe this is only a placeholder concept?

Although, I can see why they might do this. 

  • Don't need to code and design new specific blocks.
  • Allows players to use whatever wood type matches their builds
  • Can hide axles in a wall

Yes. Only find out there's things like bellows for forges and a dungeon generation system in the works when I randomly check the reddit. Sure, they are probably far off from being in a release, but it would still be nice to see what's being worked on to look forward to.

I think they don't want to build hype around a feature that could be months, or even years away from being added, or potentially even scrapped
