I mean... if it helps, I'm probably what you'd call a "new guard" and I hate the bowtorns too!

I think I've been pretty good about how to  modify files to change the game for your own preferences. But as people increasingly insist that their preferences are the "truth", I'm getting tired.

I don't know, since this game isn't a finished product I don't see anything wrong with people voicing their opinions on what they think it should be. If this game was finished, that would be a different story, but now every release changes a major mechanic. Why not throw your idea out there?

I keep wanting to provided examples of discussions, but that would probably side track the thread so I don't want to do that.

I thought (and still think) the bowtorn are sick. So I guess, enjoy the game as it existed, but remember that newcomers only know the game as it exists right now, and their questions, complaints, and suggestions are going to come from that. It's not their fault. Actually, I think it's a very valuable way to see how the game reads without prior knowledge.

100% because when I started, some poeple were still upset that drifters could throw rocks now. If you keep playing it will happen to you as well. When something changes that impacts something you found fun in the game then you will be annoyed by it and the next set of players won't understand because it has always been that way for them. I dislike them for example because they changed a very fun time aspect of the game for me, but oh well that is the way of things. Find fun in something else or find a new game.

I like to see various perspectives on things, so even if I don't necessarily agree with whatever's being said, it gives me a better idea of what others are thinking. Plus seeing new information gives me a chance to re-examine my own views on some things and change my mind when appropriate.

I do enjoy when poeple want to discuss their point of view and not just stonewall. It's like playing a game of "what if" to me.

You can, at least on desktop, if you hover your mouse over a user's avatar, after a couple of seconds it'll show a dialog that displays more information about that user, as well as the options to [message], [find content] and [ignore].

TIL.

I don't know that I really qualify as a proper "old guard", but in fairness, the bowtorn were overtuned/bugged when released, especially for temporal storms, so it was pretty rough. Plus no one had really figured out how to deal with them yet, and something that looks that terrifying you don't necessarily want to go interact with to figure it out. In any case, a lot of the rage subsided, I think, when the bowtorn numbers were adjusted a bit and players actually figured out how to counter them.

As for me personally...I don't really like them that much, but it's in the same fashion that I don't like several other things in this game and in others. They fill a certain niche of enemy and are quite good at the job; simple monsters to deal with, but complex when mixed with others and complex enough to try to avoid letting the player walk right up to them in melee.

As a new player in 1.20, the discovery that I could charge those horrific monstrosities with a pointy stick and they would run away was quite a rush. Drifters don't look all that scary and shivers will introduce themselves and demonstrate their melee combat capabilities weather you like it or not, but bowtorn look so frightening and stay so far away that it's easy to wildly overestimate them.
