modicon.png.a985e47500e5ebb4cd081c28979b79d0.png   https://mods.vintagestory.at/automapmarkers

Automatically adds map markers to your map when you interact with certain objects. Fully configurable to add only the map markers you are interested in. Current options include:

  • Add map markers when you harvest resin, berries, or mushrooms.
  • Add map markers when you collect loose surface ores.
  • Add map markers when you interact with traders.
  • Add other custom map markers of your choice.

Makes it easier to remember locations and return to those locations later, and eliminates the tedium of manually opening the map and creating map markers. Can also help to ensure you don't miss out on gold or silver surface ore, which are sometimes difficult to spot!

The mod is disabled by default when first installed. To enable the mod, open the configuration menu (Ctrl+Shift+M by default, adjustable keybind), and click the Enable button. You can also configure all of your preferences from this menu, including the icons, colors, and names that should be used for each type of automatically created map marker.

The latest version of the mod now works both in singleplayer mode and on multiplayer servers. Check out the file changelog for more details!

This is my first mod, friends. I hope you like it. 😄

Hey Doug,

They've moved the resin block to a new asset folder in 1.15.pre versions, which is why the mod doesn't currently work on those versions.

I'm working on a larger update to the mod, and I'll see if I can get a version out soon that will be compatible with 1.15.

  • egocarib changed the title to Auto Map Markers

Released a new version of the mod:

  • Now supports adding map markers for a bunch of new things, in addition to resin.
  • Has a full configuration menu, accessible in-game by pressing Ctrl+Shift+M.
  • Changed name from "Resin Auto Map Markers" to "Auto Map Markers"
  • Added a version that's compatible with 1.15.pre11+

This is a fantastic mod!  It works great when I play single player, but when I play on my hosted server, PIng Perfect, it does not work.  Do you know of a work around?  I've tried putting the mod in my mod folder on PP's server but that doesn't seem to make a difference.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

I believe it would need to be installed both on the server and on the client side. But I don't have a server to test with and I do not yet fully understand the server/client modding divide, so if anyone else has advice, it'd be welcome. If you see any errors in your logs, let me know and that might help me investigate. :)

Thanks for responding.  I tried the server side / client side installation and that didn't seem to work.  If I see something in the error log I'll let you know.  I do really love the mod though!

v2.1.0

Significant update.

  • Added new options to enable creating automatic waypoints for all of the following:
    • Traders
    • Gold ore bits
    • Silver ore bits
    • Quartz bits
  • Added an option to disable the mod, if you'd like to disable all automatic waypoint creation temporarily.
  • Implemented proper client-server interface:
    • Now works on multiplayer servers, provided the mod is installed on both the server and the client.
    • You can configure <serverDataPath>/ModConfig/auto_map_markers_config.json to provide a default experience for your server. These default config settings are automatically transmitted to the client if the player has not already used the mod and configured their own settings. A default auto_map_markers_config.json is generated when the server starts with the mod. Changes to this file are applied immediately without requiring a server restart.
  • Tweak: the mod is now disabled by default when first installing it. You can turn it on in the settings menu (Ctrl+Shift+M keybind).
  • Tweak: map markers are now added immediately when you start interacting with harvestable objects, instead of at the end of the interaction.
  • Fixed localization issue that caused some menu text placeholders to appear in the UI ("block-mushroom-bolete-*" and similar).
  • Fixed dependency issue when attempting to load the mod with a custom --addModPath
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent the mod from working at all when a certain startup sequence occurred

First, a question, will surface ores only mark when picking them up and do they respawn? If not, could a hotkey be added to mark things that you're looking at so I can quickly mark them without grabbing and/or is there a way to get it to make a waypoint without picking it up?  Also, could you perhaps add other foods (like grains, for example) to be waypointable?  I currently manually add them if I run across them as I'm not always ready to grab them.

@Pamela Wild

automapmarking wild crops wouldn't make too much sense, you'd have to harvest them for the mod to mark them, but they don't regrow, on the other hand you'd get several markers you quite likely don't want to delete on your fields as the crop blocks are afaik identical. you can just set one of the 3 "manual" mapmarkers for crops and make use of that.

similar with obsidian you might want to mark lava lakes or something like that, but the mod would just add (or try to add) a marker everytime you mine some stray block of obsidian, just make use of the custom markers. or did you mean like quartz? i just remembered you can find pieces of obsidian laying around above ground, that might be a nice addition...

no surface ore does not respawn, same with wild crops

Actually that is a nice idea, correction that's already in, if you rightclick a surface ore while holding something, meaning you can't pick it up, the waypoint will be generated none the less.

@egocaribAfter playing with this mod for a few hours (okay nearly a full day play time) i think i never want to miss it again... even though there are really many waypoints now on my map (i don't mind still am pre metal ages, i will find a use for all that copper, once i'm able to smelt it [yes i know how to but it'll take 72h irl (-timeskips by sleeping) for the charcoal to be processed with the settings i use atm])...

The argument stays you would get markers on your fields (which you will frequent more often and if you don't like these markers you'd have to deactivate the crops markers or delete the markers each time) and using a custom marker for "wild crops" does the job with a simple button press already, without cluttering the map around your base... Though i wouldn't mind more possible custom markers...

@Pamela Wild, just use a macro (Ctrl-M). I have F9 set to "/waypoint addati star2 ~0 ~0 ~0 pinned teal Stuff!" Just press F9 and I have a marker.

Wait, what? Anywhere there is surface obsidian, there are obsidian blocks below? I've never even bothered to look...

Should be, the game places the stones on the surface according to what can be found underground, i only found obsidian on the surface where there is much lava underground. Take a waterbucket with you and you can get tons of obsidian...

The mod even has inbuilt 3 custom markers that can be set easily, atm i use numpad1 for ruins (i use the excavation sites as landmarks), numpad2 for wild crops, and numpad3 for translocators, with numpad0 deleting the closest waypoint.

Can you instead make a button that would add a marker to whatever you are looking at?

What do you mean? The first non-air node the mouse cursor is pointing at? Not critical, just curious. What would that do that marking your current location does not? And that's easy. Just go into the game, hit Ctrl-M (or whatever you have Enter Macro Editor set to) and assign whatever key you like to:

/waypoint addati star2 ~0 ~0 ~0 pinned teal Stuff!

Check out the wiki for some other options, like if you wanted to just leave the default dots, or the color, or whatever.

Already using that. The part I'd like an "upgrade" for is auto-selection of waypoint name, icon and its color that would be done by the mod universally for every block or item (without prior setup) via dedicated button, as even with macro it is still a pain to edit the waypoint info afterwards: you have to snipe the tiny icon with a mouse first, you can't save or select icon with keyboard alone and you have to remember available colors. If mod were to add more icons - that would also be great.

Doesn't seem like Taylor is planning to make waypoint creation more convenient or user friendly in the nearest future... Waypoints icons can get easy to miss on the map if you were to select a color that blends with the area too.

Oh, I think I see. If you are looking at a copper node, and click on a button, it adds an appropriately colored, titled and iconed waypoint? Didn't it do that before? If you had something in hand, and you right clicked on the node, it would add a waypoint? I think it was something like Ctrl-Rt-Click? Or maybe that marked everything the same way?

I agree, that would be nice. I think that's what something I had installed did, though...
