Yes build it with fire clay. Watch your facing. You can make it facing a wall if your standing in the wrong place. Add fuel, light, when the fuel burns out the oven retains the heat for some time. Add four dough loaves. They cook in two stages. Remove and add 4 more dough loaves. They can burn if left too long. It may hold enough heat to cook a third batch if you are fast and have the dough ready. Make the dough loaves before lighting so you have enough ready. The oven uses significantly less fuel per loaf than the fires. All that said my little man is still starving. I did not grow enough grain for winter. lol.

With some fireclay selected in your hotbar, press "F" (same as any clay forming). You will see the oven as one of the choices for clay forming.

Welcome to the game and forums! To elaborate on what @Zane Mordien already said, you don't need a hammer and chisel to make an oven, but you will need fireclay, which does require a hammer and chisel since you will need a quern to grind calcinated flint. Crafting fireclay is usually the easiest option, and you'll need a quern anyway for grinding grains into flour(unless you're using mods) to get any use from the oven. However, fireclay can also be purchased from traders, found in cracked vessels, or spawn in natural deposits in bauxite or underneath black coal/anthracite deposits.
