    New Idea

Titling this post “new idea” is a bold decision. Many people have suggested this before; the devs should look into this.
  2. “Flax alternative” is the only suggestion that I stand 100% by. Everything else is just 99%.
  3. This is definitely a rage against one of the machines.
  4. In the latest release candidate, there are fish in the water; the only issue is catching them. They mostly hang around far below the surface, so it would be fun (and necessary) to have a way to bait them towards a fishing hook and yank them bodily from the water.
  5. This is a horrible idea for performance, and for people who play on low particle counts. It would require each individual particle to be able to collide with each other individual particle, and because of how particles are done in most games, that means each particle has to be checked against every other particle. I’m sure there’d be some way to optimize that, but that ignores that particles are (probably, I haven’t checked) handled client side, so anyone can just turn off particles and not have to deal with this, regardless of whether or not the server has this enabled.
  6. To “necro” a post is to post something in it after a while of no discussion. In all reality, posting on the other thread I linked here wouldn’t even be a necro in this situation; the last discussion was less than a month ago. At least take a look at it; there’s something to be learned.
  7. Please, please, PLEASE just necro a topic before you start making more. That aside, given I’ve seen this suggested before, and recently too, it may be worth adding. However, as I said in the aforementioned other thread, it really shouldn’t be anything more than aesthetic if it isn’t very explicitly stated.
  8. I dig at the spot and 90% of the time I find what I’m looking for before I hit something impassable. Staring at the wiki page for ore generation has imparted knowledge upon me completely unrelated to my actual comprehension of said page.
  9. Probably not, but it’d be funny if it just took thousands of years.
  10. Have been since the first prerelease.
  11. I can’t explain why, but that looks like normal terrain generation.
  12. Remember kids, don’t drink and Canada.
  13. I’d rather not go on a quest to find lava just to get rid of an extra flax.
  14. While I play with lore disabled and no temp stability, this is a very interesting discussion. I have to agree that being prepared, regardless of what for, should be rewarded with everything ingame. If you want to go doomslayer during the next storm, it’s easier to do so if you have enough weapons to do so. If you want to ignore the storm, there should be some way to have a decently large “storm shelter.” Maybe a large pile of rusty gears can “upgrade” x amount of low-tier drifter spawns in a certain radius into one higher tier one.
  15. It’d be really cool if the music that was already playing detuned/ played slower when you went underground or whatever.
  16. I’m talking about the reef/ ocean fish in pre2, you should check them out.
  17. Sort of like with the fish in the prerelease. Man, I hope they add some way to trophy mount fish. Maybe skulls?
  18. It's so funny how things are always in the last place you look!
  19. My grandpa always used to say “if it’s vegetation, it’s a vegetable!”* ** * he didn’t say this ** he’s fine if anyone was wondering
  20. I know I’ve seen map screenshots partially in both styles, likely due to switching between the styles, so I’d assume this would be an issue at runtime too.
  21. No drifter peeler
  22. Cool idea. My only concern is that the map would have to regenerate on every switch, or the map would have to be a blend of both styles until all map-rendered chunks gave been loaded.
  23. Yeah, someone… they must be really smart.
