So we're talking about recycling? Just need a mechanic to melt down the broken tool to get the recovered resources. Useful Stuff mod had a resource reclamation mechanic in it (along with a bunch of other stuff). Don't know if that one is still good or if other mods do something similar. -

I no longer have nightmares at being unable to save that poor drowning butterfly in my first 1.14.10 world.

The problem is that once those meals are packed into crocks they're no different than meals cooked in existing cooking pots. Currently, eating meals cooked in pots provides a cessation of hunger bar depletion for a span of time. I've sometimes gone almost an in game day without seeing a change in the hunger bar (although I think that may have been in 1.16).

Sometimes you have to place the water block against a solid block to stop the water flow.

A drifter proof grinder to kill drifters without using a weapon to kill said drifters? Not likely to be possible given the high degree of variation in drifter HP. The kill box would end up being too far from where drifters would spawn OR we're back to talking about using lava or boiling water.

The first block you break with the pro-pick determines the reading. Prospect a second time with a block adjacent to the first prospecting attempt will yield almost identical results but may be a bit different. The y coord doesn't matter, to my understanding.

A short answer is that torches (and even worse for oil lamps) is that they have to be absurdly close to each other to prevent spawning. Best to place lanterns to prevent spawning.

In my last world, I found two hematite veins with a vertical separation of five blocks. I assume that one vein spawned in a chunk column and the other in an adjacent column and they happened to overlap?

I found a deposit while mining for borax in a layer of slate rock.

I could see 8 slots (like reed baskets) and food preservation like clay vessels.

That poll was posted 2 years ago and I believe armor has changed since then.

I think I burned half of one pro-pick learning how to find ores. Then again, I watched some videos and did some research in that process to deal with the frustration.

That is one benefit of a steep learning curve. The sense of accomplishment for overcoming a difficult challenge is unmatched!

I believe that you can stand on top of a stack of firewood as you're stacking and ride it up. I haven't tried it with a full block, but I recall being elevated when stacking wood directly below sometime ago and assume it would continue to propel you up and wood continually gets stacked underneath.
