  1. Using the customization option for "Patchy" climate will give a diversity of biomes.
  2. Has something been said to make you think that? Gosh, I do hope they will do a bit more with it. I imagined that there might be a bit of resistance from the fish once they are hooked. It would be nice to have hooks.
  3. I suppose those without a coastal start would have a harder time finding enough bodies of water to duplicate your experience? I don't know how fishable small puddles are at this point as I've not installed stable yet.
  4. Actually, looking at it closer, if the outlining of the treetop and tree trunk were softened a bit, that would solve most of the issue I have with the new design. To me, that outline emphasizes a harsh blocky-ness (and cartoony-ness) that I associate with MC rather than VS. eta: and by "softened" I mean lighter in color
  5. I'm glad that a possible redesign of the logo is being considered; I've been noticing lately that it seems rather vague and dated. Although I voted for the new design, I'd prefer a more 'painterly' version that eliminates the extremely sharp edges of the new version. As it stands, the new logo does not match the more refined (less cartoonish, less Minecrafty) aesthetic that Vintage Story has developed over the years.
  6. There is something to be said for a beautiful setting! If lack of trees is the only thing holding you back, remember that you can always plant them. The trick to getting more seeds AND more sticks is to break the leaves before felling a tree.
  7. from my notes on Hmuda's observations, if it helps anyone: Landcover: 80% Landcover scale: 100% Together this creates large interconnected landmass with massive lakes & seas. Upheaval rate: 50% Experimenting, he set it to 0, then 50%; assumed it would affect size of mtns, but it adjusts overall hilly-ness. Has gentle hills and is more interesting. Landform scale: 120% Makes everything 20% bigger (mtns, biomes, canyons, etc)
  8. Take a look at Hmuda's setup for his new series in 1.22. He discusses his settings and also provides the seed (shows it onscreen at the end of configuring the world).
  9. Looks like it is a bug due to a mismatch of names between the bait files and the fish type .jsons (the fish files are calling for file names that do not exist). At least that is what it looks like to me; I'm not a coder or anything, I just notice inconsistancies/irregularities.
  10. It was announced in rc4 that a change would come in rc5: Can now exchange bait on the fishing pole. In the next update some fish will only bite with certain bait What you are experiencing could be a bug, but it might also be that those two baits do not appeal to the fish you are used to catching.
  11. It's the wood ash; it is a source of nutrients: https://fieldreport.caes.uga.edu/publications/B1142/best-management-practices-for-wood-ash-as-agricultural-soil-amendment/ eta: dead plants would become compost, a different source of nutrients... but burnt plants become ash, not compost.
  12. I have not seen this behavior in 1.22-rc5 when crafting rope from cattails yesterday. I just tried again, crafting 5 rope after reading your post, and it was fine. Can you try again after disabling the mods?
  13. I'm so glad you're posting again, @Thorfinn. I always enjoy your take on things.
  14. Yes, a small trough with grain is perfect for chickens! I think that some larger animals eat grain too, but I've not tried it. I tend to use hay.
  15. Does this pit have a large trough? Try keeping it full of hay. I believe that hay will attract just about any animal with hooves (at least that is how it seems to me when I'm trying to lure pigs).
  16. It was last updated before 1.17 was stable. People in the comments section are saying that it does not work.
  17. @Vakapad777 I always play offline. Vintage Story is setup to require an authorization on the first use. That has been true for me and it never asks for authorization again (eta: and I've been playing since 2018).
  18. Yes, there has been discussion of wool in these forums, this thread includes a comment from someone on the VS Team: scroll down to the post by redram eta: a drop spindle would be nice too; hair sheep (and I think muskox too) generally shed their undercoat, or rub it off against fencing/bushes

    New updates

Mischief of Mice did a nice video on this that is easy to follow: Importing Your Home to a New World! @H8tred
  20. I think (I'm guessing here) they mean that roosters no longer will have a rare chance of dropping eggs. The separate .json files for hens and roosters were combined into one file for adult chickens. I suspect there was a small error when that occurred, and it has now been fixed. p.s. We had what we thought was a puny rooster. It became ill and was separated from the rest of the flock and brought to a cage in the garage... surprise! It laid an egg!

    Shellfish!

I love this idea so much! I was unware of it until @Emeal made a similar suggestion in a different thread. A copy of my response:
  22. I like this idea and was going to suggest that it be posted in the Suggestions part of the forum so that the devs will notice it. However there is already a thread for the same topic: Shellfish! There could even be clam digging which might require some dexterity to respond quickly (to surface evidence of their presence in wet sand) before they escape. Fiddling to make space on your hotbar too long? Too bad! eta: I think this is such a good idea -- we should promote that Shellfish! thread!
  23. With animal aggression set to passive, boars run away from me for the first time. They used to ignore me.
  24. Yay! \o/ I was not sure about some of them, so I really appreciate this adjustment - thank you!
  25. It is possible to turn it off when generating a world. Look for the "Temporal Stability" tab during configuration and deselect the "Temporal stability" check box. This probably also disables it for deep caving. There may also be a command to disable it during gameplay; I do not see one listed in the wiki though.
