That being said, I've found myself leaning more towards the 20-30 day balance lately. It does slow down certain aspects of the game quite a lot, yes, however I've also found that it makes exploration, long expeditions, and just puttering around a lot more manageable since I don't feel like I'm rushing as much in order to take advantage of good weather. 2

Totally agree on that, really helps with mods like Better Ruins too, losing several days to some of the mod's bigger structures sucks but is buffered a little by the 20-30 day months. Same goes for migrating south (more time to prep and travel, not really more time for crop growing though) or playing without a map (longer months make it much easier when you can't easily pin/mark locations) 1

If you have a problem with those supporting this game shutting down those that they oppose perhaps you should address it in the threads where that happens. First of all, your scapegoating is driving a split in this community. Labeling those who care about this game as someone who oppose it, because they rightfully spoke out against the malware and the developers response to that whole event, as well as some of the alleged "supporters" who excused said events, is nothing but making the game worse. Not addressing those issues, or worse, basically allowing them to happen without repercussions, is not supporting the game, but corruption and malpractice. Secondly, the author of this thread did exactly what I told you, which you could've verified yourself within seconds. This thread is of the same trolling nature, trying to cause division and distraction from the issue at hand. They are simply not arguing in good faith, and at this point I believe neither are you.

First of all you're wrong. I made no comments about anything beyond this thread as a place to show appreciation for the devs and VS. You have conflated my comments with the broader tiff. I've been very busy IRL and only duck in here maybe once a day; thereby I'm pretty ignorant of the general posting of everyone. To my knowledge this is the only thread I've bothered posting in and aside from maybe 2 others the only one I've even opened to read. If my comments in this thread are so divisive I'm pretty sure I'd have gotten a warning from Tyron or other moderators.

For what it's worth, I don't think you've been divisive at all. I get the feeling that there are a lot of people who care a lot about the game (yay!) jumping on anything that seems to go against their views. The recent controversy is important and I think there is room for nuance and opinion, but I for one don't care enough, or more, don't have the right expertise to ever really add much to the debate. I like V.S. though, and when there's a lot of negativity floating around I'm always keen to talk about the good things. 12 hours ago, Dark Thoughts said: Secondly, the author of this thread did exactly what I told you, which you could've verified yourself within seconds. It is hard to build good things, and very easy to break them (as anyone who's placed a tool-rack of new metal tools too close to their pit-kiln knows). Regardless of how you view the V.S. dev response to the recent drama, I imagine we all care about the game. For the sake of longevity it is really important that we can carve out and maintain spaces of positivity though this drama. We gotta keep having fun, as well as serious discussions, otherwise what's the point? To that end, I've been building a wonky wizard tower on top of a tall plateau, and it took me so so many deaths by falling on trips away, and desperate, slippery climbs on my way home (I have dirt instability on, with the sticky dirt mod) before I decided to dig a stair. It took less than an in-game day to dig, and immediately opened up the surroundings and changed which part of my tower base even feels like the front. I've recently added aesthetically leaning support beams and chiseled out some cave-like broken bits and put candles in them, they're the only bits with light, and now the tunnel is one of my favorite parts of my base. I love how practical considerations are so important in this game, and how a little bit of work here and there lets you make them beautiful. 5

I have enough pattern recognition on reading the various thread titles to come to the conclusion that we should all be avoiding the topic like the plague and go out of our way to know as little about it as possible. Nor will I be inadvertently lead down a path related to any word I have used in this statement I am asserting that position now and will no longer mention it in this thread. This is a one off. Repeat until everything is finished. Well thats clever! I love the Vintage Story music. When im playing, I have my acoustic sitting beside and I'll get inspired to play along often. I love it.

OBAMFSpike Posted Friday at 09:11 PM Report Posted Friday at 09:11 PM Ernie Ball Earthwoods. I swear my guitar sounds like a thrumming copper spool of energy. Im no pro but it sure is fun. My low C (yes, I play two octaves lower) broke and ive been playing my kids classical nylon string guitar and now I cant put the daggum thing down! I hope I inspire my kids enough to just keep playing. The keyboard is in their room. It drives me nuts at times but im glad I got it for them. I dont care to change the songs just embellish and get inspired to write my riffs and such. It's so much fun. The most fun I ever had at a party in person was with a bunch of other musicians and when I walked in and saw a trap set and bass and asked if I could play the base and I started playing Scream of the Butterfly by Acid Bath and dude walks in with a trombone and starts wailing along with and my fingers bleed that night it was so much fun playing with all those musicians. That was a high in my life that one night. And I was stone sober. Vintage Story is a lot of fun. Theres so much potential for the caverns music and the rifts I just love letting my imagination run wild. Glad I never killed it growing up cause sometimes it just sucks adulting.

I've done something like that before. Picked up a bass that belonged to this guy I kind of knew for the first time and just started noodling around on it and this other guy walks up and introduces himself as a modern-day Jimmy Hendrix and says to me, plug into that amp and play these notes like this and so I do. Next thing I know he's jamming to my bassline and my friend comes out of nowhere and sits in front of the drumkit and starts drumming. We do this for like an hour until this girl walks up with this funny look on her face and says, "oh I guess we have a new bass player". Then they hand me a lead sheet with the lyrics and chords and say they're gonna rehearse and I can join the band if I want. I went home with blisters on my fingers. And that's how I ended up playing for the local campus BCM every wednesday until I graduated. Vintage Story is really a lot like that sometimes. It hands you just enough to get you started and next thing you know it's been two hours and you don't want to stop. 1 1
Juwan Alexander Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago (edited) I love the game and it has come pretty far since I bought it several years ago and only started playing again recently. Ignoring all the bupkis surrounding a seemingly large number of armchair cybersecurity experts, the progression as far as tools are concerned is basically perfection. No complaints. However, I have some issues with how agriculture is handled in the game because while it does incentivize you to find other sources of sustenance (malefactor, blackguard, and hunter all address this in their own unique ways), it doesn't really make sense that I cannot build my own farm until I have a metal tool (copper saw). I understand that having the ability to place water is very powerful in a block game just like it is in Minecraft, but... I also do not understand why I can not make some form of ceramic equivalent because I religiously watch Primitive Technology on YouTube and this is exactly what he does. I'm not a big stickler for realism, but I do like it in survival games because it makes the experience more immersive, but you don't need metal tools to make something that can carry water in real life. I know that it is probably like that for either balance reasons or a holdover from Vintage Story's early days as a Minecraft mod, though. Not gonna complain too hard about it because it is just about the only issue I have with the game, which is actually very good since it allows me to give the team some highly specific suggestions to smooth out the progression curve in all aspects of the game. With that being said, there are mods that do address these issues. Fishingplus makes the baiting your hook far less tedious. CrucibleInForge gives me one more option when it comes to smelting alloys with a sufficient enough drawback to consider it balanced. Primitive Survival solves the issue with early game irrigation completely, but fishing does need some work because it seems to be very strong in that particular mod, but is about on par with hunting because 3 deep pits and spears trivialize it entirely as it would in any block game. That leads me to the other thing I actually like about this game; the ease of which you can actually install mods and share them with others since they are installed upon joining a server. My best friend used to always be the one to curate our modpacks on CurseForge, but this game makes it entirely unnecessary. Tyron and the team are doing a great job and I'll not be easily convinced otherwise. Edited 19 hours ago by Juwan Alexander 1

I'm really enjoying the Realistic Water mod https://mods.vintagestory.at/realisticwater for farm placement: it makes placing water sources impossible regardless of tech level, but makes canals, irrigation, flooding, all work really naturally. Water works more like water and less like blue Minecraft liquid. Edit: It really does change the game drastically, and I'd only use it on a new world, but I really do recommend it!
