  1. VS has apparently had about a million sales-- Anego doesn't publish figures but somebody figured it somehow-- so, we're about to the point where all the common names are taken. Try adding "Nightside" to the middle of your preferred username, see how that goes.
  2. Most animals need a 2-block-deep pit to hold them; bears and most goats and deer require a 4-block-deep pit. This change is why soil is now usually 4 blocks deep, btw. If you 're annoying wolves, pigs, or goats to get them to chase you, you'll want 3x5 pits; they'll usually just run around a 3x3 and then you have to play a few verses of "Pop Goes the Weasel." Very bothersome.
  3. I play "permadeath until I deploy a blue gear," which feels like a nice compromise. If you die before then you've made a Mistake, but having to cancel three levels of excavated Dwarf King's Underground Fortress because you fell in a hole would be annoying.
  4. The handbook entries for the various kinds of mushrooms say you can feed them to pigs, but when I try to put them into a trough they just don't go. Tried it with almond mushrooms and puffballs. I had about ten of each-- does it maybe need more at a time, or does this just not work at all?
  5. Yup, this is expected. If I'm going to be working in a particular swatch of forest, I pretty much always dig a wolf pit (3x5x2 deep, with a pair of "goal post" pillars to either side so you know where to go and when to jump over) as close to the treeline as I can. Eventually you get good at it, and then you start to think about wolves as more of a resource than a hazard.
  6. No, thirst is *always* just another satiation bar, and we've got four already. Hydrate or Diedrate is fine if you want to do that, but imo this doesn't actually add anything to the game experience.
  7. I would make "Studded Leather," an armor based on the chromite-tanned leather. Same stats as regular leather except one more tier and maybe 1% more resists. Some high-end parts going into each piece-- steel nails and maybe something that drops off a sawblade locust. The main point would be for it to be Shiny, like terra preta that you wear.
  8. I just realized, my current world has huge bismuth readings all over, and no sphalerite...
  9. I think the important thing is to know what you actually want to accomplish in the game world. It's important to have a to-do list, and getting to iron age, having enough food stored for winter, maybe putting up a mill are good things to have on it; but right after those, you've got to put down "MAKE GIANT PENIS STATUE." Or whatever. If you want an Impossibly cute tiny cottage with little hearts chiseled on everything, write that down. Make it official. And now, I'm going to contemplate the giant penis statue with the little hearts chiseled all over it.
  10. Just stick 'em in there next time, they can keep track of it from inside.
  11. Nice to know SOMEBODY still sees them. I play vanilla, so it can't be a mod... grr. I really like those spearheads in the early game!
  12. Between three 1.22 worlds I've panned about seventy blocks of sand (various rock types, most recent one was andesite). I've noticed a change; copper spearheads don't drop at all anymore. Didn't see it in the change logs but that might just be me looking in the wrong place. Has anybody else noticed this? Was it an official thing?
  13. It's much more practical to simply rename the game directory to something bizarre, and then in a few months when you want to start another new world you just have to go find the installation you still have! Also, you'll get to mumble things like, "Was it filed under 'Concrete Porn?'... ooh, no. No, that's not Vintage Story at all."
  14. Yep, that's wrong; it's supposed to drop four chests and four bookcases. The other part of this is, people absolutely hate the "four chests and four bookcases" thing, so it sounds like somebody tried to fix it and made an error?
  15. This is something a person would use maybe twice in a game, and I don't know of a way to do it without breaking immersion. Alt-tab and run calc if you want to squeeze out every bit of bronze, as opposed to going and finding another disc of cassiterite (there WILL be another one, near the one you found).
  16. Soup is the best thing to use up an odd number of redmeat or poultry. Sure, it's less sat/serving but that just means you refill your bowl another time.
  17. Breeding animals is a dice roll, but you never think that it's going to come up balls.
  18. Bears. Last time I went through an entire winter I was killing a bear every other day or so, and you can't just leave it to rot.
  19. yeah, that's a bug. It might be height -2 because binary math, which makes it a PLAUSIBLE sort of bug-- something was supposed to be two blocks down from the surface, and the surface wasn't calculated yet there so it was zero, and ta-dahhhh!
  20. Yes, you have to replace the cracked/damaged brick blocks before you can use your cementation furnace again. Break the block (you'll get about half your bricks back), put in a new one. Sometimes one or two of the gratings will break, you do the same thing. This is why it's worth making the higher tier refractory bricks if you can find the materials; they don't break as much.
  21. Did you try to make them go UP? Dragging any kind of animal up a full block with a rope is nearly impossible. You can make it a lot easier by setting up stairs, any kind... stone path, cobble, wood all work. Yes, I know, it's ridiculous.
  22. IME with chickens of approximately generation 5000, they spook WHEN you try to pet them Then they look highly offended at you, and demand mealworms in compensation for the mortal insult. The game needs mealworms.
  23. I once chiseled a nice underground cellar, with a vaulted ceiling and a couple of columns and alternating spaces along the walls for pit kilns and storage jars. The jars keep preserving food just fine, as they sit there surrounded by the flames of hell. Good times!
  24. The behavior I'm describing is what the game does using a single forge, with no bellows, fueled by charcoal. Put ingot on the fire, watch it get to 750, wait a minute, pull it off, put it on the anvil and I've seen temperatures around 730. The behavior gets more complicated with two ingots or a work item plus ingot, but that looks like a consequence of the incorrect behavior that appears with one. Fixing the simple case *probably* will take care of everything, but it's best to tell the devs about all the other weird stuff so that they can make sure that goes away too.
  25. It appears that when you put an item on a forge, it heats until reaches the forge's max temperature, then starts a grace period of not-cooling, then cools fairly quickly. The trouble with this is, if you leave the item on for a while it's using up that grace period just sitting there. When you pull the item off you have a shortened grace period, or sometimes the item is already significantly cooled. My workflow with forges is such that it's not uncommon for me to pull a part-finished set of shears or iron spearpoint, and find it's already too cold to even put it on the anvil! The grace period should start when you PULL a fully-heated item off the forge, not while it's still sitting in the coals. Stuff gets even weirder when you put multiple ingots on a forge. The forge will say "temp: 750 C," but really one ingot can be fully heated while the other is significantly cooler. The text indicators should not lie to us: either make both ingots be 750 degrees when the forge says so, or make the forge say something like "L: 750 R: 713" when the ingots aren't the same. Ideally the of ingots should re-average their temp when you drop a new one on, just as the game already does when they're stacked on the floor or in inventory. I understand why y'all made cooling faster, how it makes working iron a little more interesting and motivates people to get a bellows set up. It needs to be consistent, though. Pulling a thing off the forge and having, I dunno, 30 seconds to mess with it is bothersome in a game-wants-me-to-suffer way, which is fine; pulling it and having (-5 + 45 * RND(1)) seconds is annoying in a feels-like-broken-software way, not so good.
