Weezl Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 I built a cool little log cabin on the beach... and then lit the pit kilns next to it and burned the whole thing to the ground. The thing is, I had fire spread turned off in the config. Arrrggh! 2 1 5
Grummsh Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 A lesson learned the hard way Also dont worry weve all been there at one point
LadyWYT Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 When I first started playing I built a pit kiln inside next to my hay bed and reed chest. It's the kind of mistake you learn from rather fast in this game. 1
HalfAxd Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 Classic! Good times! I lost a set of tools (twice) before I figured out the pit kiln was torching the tool rack above it.

Lesson learned... never trust the config file.... and don't build flammable houses.
OBAMFSpike Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 (edited) I had graphics turned down so low that I couldn't tell that I wasn't igniting the 'aged' forge I had found but was indeed igniting the heavy timber for my greenhouse behind. Steel tools and all to the conflagration ensued. Glad im a quick thinker and just started tearing down my greenhouse. Fire is an intriguing entity even in a video game. P.S. The aged forges do not work. Edited April 23 by OBAMFSpike stuffs must be added 2
cjc813 Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 I'm sorry, pal. That really sucks. As you're seeing, we've all been there. I had a really neat seed one time, and was building a cabin in the woods. It was a really nice, scenic situation and I was having a good time. Long story short, I started pottery and burned my house and the forest down. At that point I just deleted the world. 1

You probably were igniting the aged forge since igniting non-flammable objects does spread fire to nearby blocks, I've done it myself with a brazier I found in a ruin and lost half my house. Yeah, they shouldn't do that... 1

Yeah, they shouldn't do that... OH MAN! I didn't consider that! I was just trying to conserve fuel. But I suppose after something sits in the rot and the rust for so long that anything is possible! 2
cjameshuff Posted April 24 Report Posted April 24 I had an accident that somehow burned down half my smithing workshop. A combination of misclicks and full inventory resulted in me accidentally throwing a bunch of lit torches onto a firepit I was trying to ignite. I decided I'd pick them up after I got the thing ignited and kept trying, then started taking damage as the nearby chests started spawning fire particles. I'm still not sure exactly how it happened, I've been unable to deliberately reproduce it...I now wonder if it was related to that "igniting non-flammable objects" issue.
Broccoli Clock Posted April 24 Report Posted April 24 Never burnt my own house down, I've taken out the odd corner block but for the most part I build in non flammable materials. However...I've seen someone build their entire base on peat, then start a pit kiln. This peat deposit was approx 40 blocks in diameter. It did not end well. 1
Silrana Posted April 24 Report Posted April 24 In my current game I misjudged how close an overhanging branch was to my first pit kiln and started a massive forest fire that burned for days. Oops. I can report that the ground mushrooms and berry bushes were unharmed, but the wild crops were gone forever.
Farmore Posted April 25 Report Posted April 25 LMAO CLASSIC. Been there done that. I feel like everyone has done this exact thing at least once. It's a right of passage. Every time I tell someone I burned down my house they immediately go "pit kiln?" Pit kiln. At least you're not me who built a pit kiln inside their home right before winter, and burned down their entire lawn on a previous occasion. The fire mechanics take a few disasters to figure out. Which, all things considered, is quite realistic. 1
