Chiselwork from my new House.
StCatharines replied to Andre Oberländer's topic in Videos, Art or Screenshots
Wow. I am practically speechless at the incredible work you've put in on that windmill, that's simply phenomenal! -
armor a passive exoskeleton as an analogue of expensive armor
StCatharines replied to _Unreal_'s topic in Suggestions
That's a very intriguing idea! From the thread title alone I was very skeptical, but your description feels like something which would fit into the game fairly well. Interesting! -
For comparison, here's the previous windmill I made. I think the chiseling really adds a certain something, but I think my next attempt will try to combine aspects of both.
-
Alright, now that I had time aplenty for being creative and going overboard on caring for my chickens, here. I improved the chickenpit. It has a lovely roof, a warm entryway, windows for plenty of light, nice walls, and I think the color combination works well. I even chiseled in the entryway, to give it that little bit extra. However, I remain true to myself! It's still a chickenpit.

So far, I think this is the nicest windmill I've managed to make. I never seem to be entirely happy with them, though! The different sails are from the Millwright mod, and yes, the chiseling took me such a long time.

Unfortunately, when dealing with a lot of mods like that, there's only one way to know what's causing issues. I like to disable half of the mods, and (in a fresh creative world!) try to replicate the problem. If the problem is gone, okay, turn off that list of mods and turn on the other half of the mods. If the problem is still gone, it's an interaction between something on the first half and the second half, and you have to start pruning it down further. If the problem comes back in only one half or the other, then split each of those halves into half, and repeat the process. Testing 50/50 like that allows you to quickly pinpoint the exact mod causing issues most of the time, instead of having to test them one at a time. I wish there were a quicker, easier suggestion, but that's all I can offer. Edit: If I had to take a crazy guess, the first one I'd suspect is Stone Bake Ovens, as it's the only one in your mod list that I recognize as making a substantial change on any of the fire mechanics.

Interesting. Does that also modify the minimum brightness level in caves?

Why do my chickes get spooked even though i am behind a wall?
StCatharines replied to Craftcoat's topic in Questions
There's ChickenSit, but it only helps after generation 1. The amazing detection radius of chickens is why I put them far away from anywhere I usually go. -
If you ever come to Yellowstone, please don't attempt to pet the fluffy cows.

That's fair. Practically everything in this game has been very thought out, and the gradual increase in both effort and reward can be intoxicating. I hadn't considered that using ebony and purpleheart, and only ebony and purpleheart, as material for crates has a noticeable impact in game. I've wondered if the extremely low seed drop chance were a bug, but you're right. That must be intentional.

Updating existing worlds to newer version + 1.20 question
StCatharines replied to CynicalCat's topic in Questions
I agree with the others. Absolutely just get started back to the game in 1.19.8, and worry about 1.20 when it's even first announced as a RC. Until then, you have time aplenty, and even when it does eventually release and move to stable, you don't have to update the game until you're ready to do so. -
Currently, it is in fact a mod, yes. I also hope that the drop rate of seeds, especially for ebony and purpleheart, will one day be increased to something reasonable. Currently it's not very possible (without mods) to propagate them for wood farming.
-
By "species" do you perhaps mean "seeds"? I'm thinking you do, as your complaint mirrors mine. I suggest giving Whole Lotta Tree Seeds a try. It does exactly what you suggest, in terms of boosting the drop rate of seeds when you break leaf blocks.

I am absolutely thrilled that moose in-game don't act like moose in real life. I am, rightfully and justifiably, more terrified of elk and moose around here than the bears around here.
-
That's fair. Myself, I like to have that dairy sat even when I'm not home to deal with animals, but I don't see the advantage of blue cheese over cheddar, as cheddar is far simpler and nearly foolproof to make.
-
To be fair, the error message did tell you that was the case. The crash logs are incredibly useful, and in many cases will not just tell you the general issue but the exact line of code that caused an issue.
-
And they also tip your alignment to the evil side, don't go around killing baby bunnies! I need to write a mod to just make them invincible, the same way I did for 7 Days to Die. I couldn't stand hearing the unfortunately realistic scream of a rabbit in pain.
-
Reading that post was an emotional rollercoaster, as I've died more than once trying to rescue rabbits from dumb situations.
-
Hopefully it's the exact same problem, and you're able to fix it as easily! Be aware that according to the mod author, the henboxes might pop back into their base game type with that setting put on false.
-
That's a good point! You can absolutely make a ladder to a very high platform, as long as you follow the other rules for the open air and light to the not-cellar, and the game should calculate the outdoor temperature of that area as where the platform is. I'm not sure blue cheese is worth that effort, but it should be totally doable.
-
You have a knack for painting an incredibly vivid mental image simply by using words. I absolutely agree. I was recently mining more magnetite ore near my home, a trip I'd made a handful of times, and while descending the ladder I heard everyone's favorite noise: a banging clapper inside of a bell, along with the blaring klaxon calling drifters to aid. I think I not only climbed the ladder faster than you're supposed to, but I'm nearly certain I didn't touch the ground at all while running out of the chunk.
-
Don't you judge me!
-
Good luck! It can be tricky, but as long as you keep the light very low (excluding lamps/lanterns), the temperature cool, and make certain that it isn't an enclosed room, it'll work. If it counts as a room or cellar, it won't work, as it has to be directly open to the air.

I have never been surprised by a sawblade locust, that sounds horrifying! I'm a bit jealous.

I swear to you all, I do actually build beautiful structures in game! I just found myself in a rush on getting domestication up and running, you know how it can be sometimes. It's the critter trap/"barn/coop" version of a first night dirt house.
