  1. It could be made similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R game where if being in shelter you are safe. That way ones who enjoy fighting drifters go outside, others can stay inside and pan the storm away. Maybe it would be hard for game to understand what is shelter and what is not though. While i am o.k. with storms myself, (Also now its good source of linen, which is valuable after 1.14) it is just, that on server i am playing, most of the players quit game for storm then come back. It seems, the one, who enjoy building in this game and have all the recources, aren't enjoying storms too much. One thing for me...I am playing this game only 1-2 hours a day after job. There have been days where i join to server with an idea for a good trip to caves, which is ruined by storm. The on on another day same happens with my adventure to far trader. This wouldn't be a problem if i play all day, but having only limited time to play, it sometimes ruins my experience that day. But i agree Redram that game has enough options to remove strorms and instability that way you would deal with drifters only in caves or during nights, which is easy.
  2. Love this game, but can't ignore Adrastos point of view. Game is great at everything it's doing, but something is missing in the core. I am starting to make some piles of materials. Making food not because i need it to survive, but only because already made one spoils or vegetables have grown. Adventures to caves are fun, but except teleports, everything else found there usually is good for builders or rare things collectors. Made windmill, but can't find motivation to finish helve hammer, as all bronze weapons/tools i have, pretty much make me strong enough against all threats (1.14 locusts havent met yet, so dunno about them). I am still playing, and sure will continue, but i can't explain what is i am missing. Writing all this, i would possible now better vote for Lovecraftian or Combat, so there would be more creatures and need for strong metals/weapons etc. And undersand me correctly, no rant here as well. Just wondering will adding more to homesteading (which i voted myself) will help deal with this feeling. Especially, as i undestood from one recent video about servers, having too much animals, make server performance much worse. So many animals are good, but maybe for solo. But then again - why one player would need so many food and recources if he is O.K. with what he has atm?

    N/A

Waiting for 1.14 to be added to server i play in. Have some scrap metal already waiting to be used.
  4. I'm new at Vintage story. Im playing in multiplayer server which has carry capacity mod on. That way my experience with storage is a little different than vanilla players have. But before i joined multiplayer server i played a little solo. At first i visualized human with four baskets on, so already i was a little sceptical about need to make four baskets to bring some stuff with you. Then i was introduced to leather backpack, which made things a little bit logical. But then again - 4 backpacks seems strange. O.K. this is offtopic... About duribility i have another idea. Maybe tool belt would be a good option (toolbelt would mean visible toolbar on screen bottom, where you can quickly acess items in it by scrolling mouse), which would have some durability because its used all the time. And in case of it braking all things in it would fall on ground (or moved to backpack automatically) forcing you to have everything in backpacks, and keeping you only with 2-3 slots in toolbar (what you are able to carry in hands) avaialble till you make home to make another toolbelt. That would seem more logical to me. Backpacks braking doesn't seem so much a thing IRL. Yet all time being used pocket/toolbelt braking seems more logical. P.S. Another idea that after braking you could still have full toolbar accesible, but changing from item to item would take more time, because (lets imagine) you would have to get them out of backpack to use.
  5. So hard to decide, but i know anything you will choose will be great. But if i look at my current situation - my base is in place, where it's hard to get any animal without leash or cage i guess. So i can't progress in that way unless i change my base, which i don't want to do. So for now i'm voting for Homesteading. Also would be nice to hear some bird twittering or seeing some ducks swimming in water from time to time.
  6. In my opinion Vintage Story if one of the more realistic games i've played. But not because its super realistic about its mechanics. It's more about how ambient and real it feels. Multitasking all the time, planning long trips, struggling with possibility to carry too much things with you, feeling happy finnaly arriving home, food preservation, climbing caves (while thinking how to get back safe), animal hunting, season change...you name it. Once water and temperature physics will be improved, struggle will become more "real". Monsters and storms are small part on "unrealism", yet needed for small story this game has. There is some reason we're finding ruins and ancient scrolls/books - what are they remains of? Sure there could be option to play without monsters and storms, but then there should be alternatives for getting gears and using teleports - because map is huge. Some mod for such alternative will come later on i guess. Surviving more real conditions is fun thing to try, but i would't want to do that long-term. No feel for achievments, unless survived days counting. How about injuries for example - broken leg - wait months to heal? Then game without respawn - starting all again from scratch? There is limit to how real game can get and i wouldn't want to play such game i think. That's my opinion. I wouldn't want Vintage story to become simple farming/surviving simulator.
  7. Is there any news on this since 2018? Looking for water powered gears in this game, but agree that it shouldn't be possible to put water sources with buckets then to use them, so it would be still necessary to make windmills. Would be nice to make aqueduct or put gears in cave waterfall to power something, similar to windmill. Maybe water source would be used, but there should be added some rules like - water has to come through some chiseled pipe and source has to be at specific height, so But i don't know anything about coding, so don't know how hard is to make such rules in game. An idea about chiseled block for aqueduct came to me while making chimney for home. As i saw smoke coming through it, i imagined...how about water going through that block. Will have to try that just for fun.
  8. I also found out that panning is good thing to get resources. But i usually have to put it aside, because im again low on food i should go look for. Food not only for current moment...but for food preservation. When playing single player all seemed balanced and i got my copper tools fast enough, because all recources around were available for myself. In multiplayer server thats a bit harder if you are still trying to survive alone from other players. One way to make game easier, would be some faster way to get water for food (clay bucket or watering can be able to move water a little at least) and maybe some stone hammer (which could brake ridiculously quick so you wouldn't want to use it all the time) so after first pickaxe there would option to brake copper ores you got). But also that would make game too easy once you know how to play this game, i think. This game is process of learning. Learing to make priorities and plan trips and storage more. And learning mostly from mistakes in planning and priorities if you don't want to have spoilers from tutorial videos. ATM most valuable lessons i have learned for myself are: 1) First make pixaxe, then hammer (to split ores) and then anvil (to faster get to saw, which means water bucket and planks). Sword isnt that valuable at first and only wastes copper. 2) Quern is quite easy to make, and should be made sooner as well, but flour needs water, so we are back to point Nr.1. 3) No need to keep seeds in chests... Should make simple garden near water as soon as possible. 4) Bees should be found as quick as possible, because after that it is quite simple to populate them. I was putting that task way too aside and because of that i have to waste berries i could be using for making jams. If i would start another game i would more concentrate on those things and game would be more easy for i think. But then again. It could be my next mistake.
  9. Im new at this game and have died only once - near to spawn, because thought i am tough enough to kill wolf without any armor or leading him to water. So i am unfamiliar with feeling the pain of losing everything far from spawn yet. Just wanted to say that having possibility to get back items, which doesnt spoil would be fine, Yet food items should be lost i think. And i wouldn't want to have some punishment on health, because dying and having to go after your items seems punishment enough for me. But as i said, have died once ATM and even didn't notice how it affected my health. I see this is and old post, so probably all those questions are already decided.
  10. Just guess. Maybe there is some cave nearby. Somewhere next to cellar. So they spawn through wall. But just would be my first idea if i experience something like that.
  11. I am willing to join, but i am not very active player. Is there any minimum requirements according player activity to join server? I am new into this game and although playing alone is fun, would like to jump into multiplayer experience as well sometimes.
  12. As Latvian i am so proud to hear such great man is somehow connected to coutry i live in.
  13. Game ir really beatifull! It needs few hours learning process of things things you have to know before you can start playing it without worries. At least, that was with me. I got game, but having hunger, storage capacity, wolfs around - all the same - at first was much for me. It was just because i felt like...if i won't get sword, much meat, pixaxe...it will never end. Its an illusion you have to get over. And then game becomes wonderfull journey you just need to continue.
  14. Yea. Once i started panning gravel and sand copper became more acessible. Also some other things are coming through that (like quartz, arrow heads or other rare materials). Sure it's grindy too, but that way night passes and you can continue on other things during day. Once you will get first pixaxe and hammer, you will split copper you dig into usable copper and games becomes more easy. Another thing is charcoal pit - must have to melt copper.
  15. I found this game in HUMBLE Bundle store. Then checked some youtube videos and i was hooked on it. It seemed so easy and super fun. After meeting first wolf and making numerous always braking knifes i was a litlle bit upset. And i think that's the line, where not all of us will continue. Because game is a little bit hard on survival, although there isn't many dangers except wolfs and drifters at night. But i think if we would be left alone in world without our modern society, it would be more hard to survive. This game lets you realize that, I so would like a good cellar for myselft IRL now. Now i love this game, and i am progressing little by little during dark autumn evenings.
  16. As many other mention, just run as soon you hear wolf roaring. And better around some pond, so you wait for wolf on other side of it. He will be slow and with few flint spears thrown, you will be able to finish him quite easily. But if you don't want to fight him, just run. He will back up eventually. Other than wolfs, there is no much dangers in this game during day. I mostly suffer from storage capacity and hunger at first. Now my food cellar is in progress, and it has become much more pleasant experience since. Game is grindy mostly because of often breaking tools, but that's only problem if you are expecting fast progression in your head. Maybe i am too easy on progression myself and it will make me regret my words once winter come. But as for now, Game is really beatiful and nice. Just make bunker from soil, better on some small pond, so you could PAN gravel and sand indoor, thus getting copper and other nice things.) Burn some torches (remember you can have one in left hand all the time) so drifters wont spawn. P.S. Getting some friend along, would probably add more fun to game, but thats another belly to feed .
