For comparison, I've had multiple successes in 1.22 & 1.22.1 but have not tried in 1.22.2 I always put out multiple traps in the same area... not sure that matters though. Hope you can trap them.

Tried to find another place to ask this but figured y'all might know the answer... I try to upload images but it always fails with a server error -200 The images are in game screen shots (.png) of correct size (ex. 2.2 mb) It finds them and starts loading, but gets about 1/4 of the way there and fails. I've tried over a number of days, but same same. Any ideas? Thank you

Sounds like a few rage quits were served up... I've been there too when I first started paying. 1. I usually have a trader very near spawn, but not so many that literally every cool place to build has one. I'd actually like a good trader close to my base, but for my worlds they are usually a good distance away. I also, generally, move a very good distance away from spawn pretty quickly while searching for a place to live. 2. If I spawn in a forest, I immediately bee line to the plains or where ever I have good lines of sight. Once I have my "bearings" I dig a trench(s) deep enough to trap bears/wolves. I rarely die to these critters since doing this. I stay out of forests early game... I burn large areas to clear lines of sight (sometimes it's great hunting). Adapt and you'll be wearing bear armor in no time. 3. I dread popping in to the trader for refuge only to find it "open to the public" at large... lol I honestly hope you find a safer location to call home in game. Enjoy

I build long animal pits around my base with gates in specific areas to channel breeding animals to pens. If I lure bears or wolves to them, I kill them right away and take their "loot". Effective and easy to dig out (usually). Enjoy

Have not been a fan of the new fishing mechanic... seems too much like a fish spawner. The survival game has been more touch and go with 1.22 in my new world, but fun because of it. I find myself racing to get a bread oven to stretch my food resources, since harvest is less bountiful. Have a great time. Enjoy

Classic! Good times! I lost a set of tools (twice) before I figured out the pit kiln was torching the tool rack above it.

I would jump in on 1.21 just to learn the game's systems and get through the initial frustrations... learn how to deal with bears, wolves, bowtorn, the handbook and what the biomes look like and offer. Do this knowing that the world is temporary... start a bunch of times to see what the world gen options do... That way when 1.22 stable comes out you have something fresh and exciting to fire up and you've some experience under your belt. Enjoy

I'd flip a coin and go with it... if I don't like the flip, then I know my answer Enjoy!

This is very realistic if you've ever hunted before... you have to pick your areas to hunt in. Drive the animal into that area so you can see it. In the game you can easily clear brush by burning it all... you'll get the benefit of visibility, burned out critters (free hunting) and be able to see surface ore, etc. Win win! A very effective tactic is to build animal trenches 3 blocks deep (2 wide) and quite long with tall stacks of dirt on each side for sighting. Maneuver around and behind the animals and drive them towards the trench (aiming the critter between the stacks of dirt)... Works like a charm and is historically accurate. Also... use a pit 4 blocks deep and 3 wide (at least) for bears and let them chase you in to it... either jump over and watch them fall in or give yourself a ladder to jump up to as exit. Enjoy

I've been watching Ashantin 3 play her new 1.22 world on Youtube... so far things appear fine. I'm still holding off till stable in case something changes with dungeons that requires a new/updated chunk... and for Knapster to be updated. Have fun

It's been very difficult, but I've not started a 1.22rc world because they are still adding/changing things up thru the stable release. While an "rc" world may technically upgrade when stable is out, you would likely miss additions/changes in the chunks of the game already rendered. I'm thinking of the new procedural dungeons specifically, but the release notes a full of fun things. I've been amusing myself with other games and videos of those playing... building anticipation for the stable release. Have fun whatever you do!

Roll a die and go for it. I love randomness

Is it just me or did brown bears become super sayan
HalfAxd replied to VanillaGorrilla's topic in Discussion
I have not yet played 1.22 so I might be all wet, but... I avoid dense forests and dig animal pits if I venture into one. If I stumble on a bear/wolf, I lead them to the pit and trap them. I have a habit of torching dense, limited line of sight, areas... come back the next day (get away so frame rates are not an issue) and usually have a few surprises scattered around I rarely die to bears and wolves. -
It feels too much like a fish generator to me... throw something in the water and we'll spawn a fish for you. I'm planning to only spear fish in my game until I want to collect fish trophies, then I'll use the fishing pole.

A General Discussion on the State of the Forums
HalfAxd replied to Teh Pizza Lady's topic in Discussion
Unfortunately people are people and maturity levels vary wildly. I think we all have a passion for this game and express it differently... I know I have engaged critics of certain game systems by trying to show a different side of the story. It hasn't always been received well. I just move on and trust in Tyron's judgement. -
How would you revamp Vintage Story's classes system?
HalfAxd replied to Calmest_of_lakes's topic in Discussion
I always play as Commoner... I am not a fan of buffs and debuffs to make me feel like I'm playing as one thing or another... I want the freedom to do what I want. For those who like classes, perhaps giving points to assign at the beginning of the game to let people craft their own class... providing freedom to do what they want. -
Temporal storms are a bad implementation of a good idea.

Agreed! I like them as well. They are cool to watch from behind my windows. Occasionally, I go out and try my hand at combat with them... it's unique and cool... -
Question for people who play with monter spawn on day one....
HalfAxd replied to vinnland's topic in Discussion
I always dig pits in areas I'm searching thru if its forest or I hear wolves... you can usually get to them and trap bears & wolves... If I'm on a long range adventure, I stay away from forests (or burn them down) Enjoy! -

Same here... I usually find a trader very close to start so I use that as a base to store things and wander around until I have what I want to venture out further... I adventure and make a number of huts along the way (mark them on the map) until I see a place that "looks right" for an initial base. Enjoy! -
I definitely do this, though usually with a ruin that has a little more "charm" to start with... //media.invisioncic.com/r268468/emoticons/wink.png Would love to see what you build.

How do I expand my crafting abilities in this game?
HalfAxd replied to gluemchen's topic in Discussion
Hhmmm... but this isn't a 4x game, nor a game where you start as a neanderthal... the world exists at a time where metals, the wheel, writing, etc. already exist. Why create artificial gates when there's already enough work that needs to be done to progress thru the game's stages? Just say'n -

Very sorry if I came across that way, was not intended. That's the problem with posting like this... no eye contact, no inflection... I was also just putting my opinion forward. Enjoy! //media.invisioncic.com/r268468/emoticons/smile.png -
When you are running around, grab quartz on the ground... some of them will be clear quartz and a few will make a block you can see thru... nice in a starter hut for seeing if the coast is clear in the morning. //media.invisioncic.com/r268468/emoticons/wink.png
