food storage Using Crates for food storage in a Cellar
Demoncyborg replied to DapperLucario's topic in Questions
it actually stores both! it'll just spit out the proper rot amount when you go to grab it if there's any grain stacks left, or once it all changes the crate flips to rot. happens very fast if you overfill veg into crates -
food storage Using Crates for food storage in a Cellar
Demoncyborg replied to DapperLucario's topic in Questions
i have a really similar problem when i play with friends, we just make so much food. i tend to just dedicate a cellar/section of a cellar to storing the freshest stuff in vessels for eating, and then the bulk in crates for animal feed/crafting/mod stuff, since by the time it rots there's usually more grain waiting to take its place. -

Old Berry Bush Behavior option in worldgen/survival settings
Demoncyborg replied to Autocrat's topic in Suggestions
what rainbow said is true, this kind of thing is what mods are for. if every time the devs updated the game with something new, only to add an option to change it back, it's just adding layers of complexity to an already intensely complex game. like rainbow said, every bug and question would need to be met with "are you using x, or x option?" and that eventuality would only grow so much more huge and complex with how much the game is already growing. seasons, weather, food spoilage, geology and worldgen changes are all updates that majorly changed the way survival worked, and there are not options to remove those either. -
you must be VERY lucky, even building mine above the height for the flat power increase, i'd still have days where I had to wait a few in game hours for the wind to return, and that's even with windmills with minimal to no extra parts drawing power (not a 'min maxxed' windmill, but i still have problems with those too). i'd say it's not negligible if my wind power is only 1% and i have stacks of grain i now have to hand-turn until it comes back!

How do i keep all nutrition bars full all year?
Demoncyborg replied to Hunbird1's topic in Questions
that's smart!! i usually just toss it on the floor when i cant be asked lol -
yes, all your nutrition bars are halved when you die, which can do a serious number on your max HP

well, if anything it keeps them safe from stray bowtorn/drifter rocks, especially if you're near them during a storm. -

i'll add on my tips for cheese and dairy, it's my main thing to hunt for when i start a world since having my nutrition bars up is one of my favorite things. when you're established with a farm, hopefully one that overproduces flax for animal feed, and once you've found a source of salt- it can be from traders, or directly from halite, then you're ready to make milk. you also need to be in at least copper tier, since you'll need planks for making buckets and barrels make a small pen to start with, with 3-4 high fences, and a solid roof with at least a little gap between the fences and ceiling. and if you can a non-grass floor. this protects your goats from bears and lightning to start with if you hang yourself on a ladder about 2-3 blocks off the ground, outside of the fences, and look inside through the top, you should be able to safely reach and attempt to milk animals that say "Can be milked but may become aggressive" without getting hurt. if you use a small pen, when they run around stressed it should be easier to use the bucket on them with less room to run around. use a stack of a few buckets so it's harder to accidentally sip the milk, it's annoying to have less than 10L at a time. Once they gen up, everything becomes a lot easier, but it's entirely possible to get milk from low gen goats as well, just takes a lot more work, and this pen setup has been the easiest for genning animals up that i've had :3 you need 5 buckets of milk, x2 pickled veg and x20 salt for every barrel you process into cheese, which will give you x2 wheels of cheese per barrel. you can wax cheese before it's ripened to make it last longer, but it still lasts for years without once it matures. as far as actually keeping your dairy up once you have milk and cheese producing, cheese pies and scrambled eggs are the only meals in vanilla VS that accept cheese slices, and are also the best foods for keeping your dairy up. drinking milk isn't good, and cottage cheese is terrible compared to the benefits of aging it into cheddar. as far as how much food a single Seraph needs each winter- your play style influences how hungry you get, so it's hard to quantify without getting a feel for it each year yourself. happy hunting, foraging, farming and cooking! -

highly recommend apples for winter fruit saturation. if you don't have honey for making jam, they tend to keep for a long time just on their own in a good cellar. -
thank you for taking the time to gen a whole world for this science!!
-
pretty sure all they do at the moment is give you a food source, but some part of me swears i've seen one grow before lol.

i always end up trying to collect all of the fruit and foods (just to have them at one point) in the game. at some point i really want to graft an all apple variety tree though.

Any way to stop animals from spawning within a base or fenced area
Demoncyborg replied to Javex's topic in Suggestions
normally removing all the grass from a fenced in area is the way i've been told to fix that, but I have had similar issues on a modded server with certain spots constantly spawning the same group of animals INSIDE of a house, with a tile floor, and the doors all closed o_O are your random ibex similar to that? -
cellar effectiveness? what the material is best?
Demoncyborg replied to Michaś P's topic in Questions
i'm not personally sure if the 'wooden' impact on score counts on anything except solid building blocks, or else barrels which belong in a cellar would also have a negative effect too? I know the ladder in mine has none, but a chiseled wooden scaffold a friend made for a second floor did have a huge impact.(if you still want the wooden look, you can start with a stone block and replace the voxels with wood to trick the game.) -
i don't think it's deleting items between chunks, they're probably just getting stuck. horizontal transport stops at like, 3 blocks out? so you'd have to make it step down to preserve momentum.

Demoncyborg replied to Michaś P's topic in Questions
woah, this is actually huge information! so if you're living somewhere up really high and cold, your cellar might actually come out with worse spoilage rates than outside a cellar? I think i've actually experienced this in winter before -
another thing you can try is throwing the flax directly on the ground, since they can graze from thrown items. it might help kickstart them into being hungry again!

I'd recommend this mod Fruit Refreshed it does some other things, but those sound like something you might like! gonna have to disagree there, I don't mind waiting for my trees to grow, feels like a sign of progress through the years in my worlds. but i do think you're right that general fruit tree settings would be nice, like a world config command like we have for crop growth.

I think the eclipse dates change depending on your latitude as well, since the suns position changes if you're further north or south.
-
i'm pretty sure this is the case yeah, my hefty meals tend to rot into a lot more than i expect when a whole crock goes bad. i might report back with some testing though

can we see a screenshot of your original animal pen? and make sure you check caves/pits nearby too, that's where all my escapees tend to congregate.

Mechanical Refrigeration System Using Aqua Vitae
Demoncyborg replied to Aarón Rodríguez Hernández's topic in Suggestions
it's kinda not the place for it, but i'll leave it at this: i don't think they would've added so many apple colors, fruit and berry varieties, 5 veggies with the same exact saturation.. ect, if vanity & variety wasn't at least a medium consideration for things that get added or changed. there's countless things that are just vanity without 'functionality' in the game, and more get added almost every update. -

i'm right here, i make blue cheese!! for the same exact reason I still put mushrooms in meals at the endgame. it's just nice to have some variety. you actually can make it any time of the year with a good enough elevation, or being somewhere a bit colder. I just think it's worth mentioning since it's one of those unique temperature mechanic things in the game that could benefit from it. and because I like making cheese. Just putting it here or in the discord is all you can do! there's no guarantee or confirmed way to get something into the game on an official level, that's the devs choice. however.. there's a forum here for mod suggestions and ideas since i'm not sure if there's one that adds a condenser like we're describing, but plenty of mods out there add stuff like cellar ice, better containers and shelves, ect my advice with your rotted food is to seal that rot in some barrels and use that compost to upgrade all your farmland to terra preta -

Maybe it isn't coming through in translation but that's what I'm saying already. this should be easy if it only works in a cellar, but not easy when you get to the hyper specific scenario of blue cheese cellars. blue cheese need a 'false' cellar, that's open to the air but not sunlight, and has very specific temperature requirements. It's like the only reason I mentioned it haha
