Broccoli Clock Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 I have too much leather... ..and there isn't enough stuff (in vanilla) to make with it.. Once you've made armour, got a bow, crafted a shield all you pretty much have left is endless versions of antler mounts. I'm sitting on over 200 leather (why make it, well I have all the pelts I could need so might as well process them) that is just taking up space. I don't have an elk yet, so no need to craft elk stuff, although I've looted several parts already. I don't have access to chromium so no sturdy leather - although that in itself only provides 3 recipes (the bag, the mining bag and an elk item). What to do with all my spare leather? I'm guessing crafting items to sell to the trader is the ultimate solution I guess... or install a bunch of leather related mods?

In my late game, leather became one of three main resources of gears (together with linen and cast bronze tools). Also flax fields are the base element of being rich as Flax fields -> linen -> linen products, like clothes -> gears Flax fields-> autofed pigs -> leather -> leather products, like aprons and boots -> gears Edited March 3 by Vratislav 2 1

It's quite a lot of work to make a book, when I could pan bony soil and get one quicker (with lore). Although it is a fair suggestion considering the limitation of leather crafting. 3 hours ago, Vratislav said: Just sell it. Yeah, I'm guessing that is the option. Either as leather itself or crafted items. 1
LadyWYT Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 I typically craft extra leather into backpacks and boots to sell to the local treasure hunters. It's a fairly inexpensive thing for me to craft, that fetches a rather good price. 2

When I am not lazy, I make also some black leather, which expands opportunities (same for linen, as blue and brown cloth are component usable even for non-taylors). 1
EnbyKaiju Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 They are also now adding leather as a "sheet" you can put over the top of other blocks. So if you wanted to make a leather covered sofa or something you'll be able to do that. Make something that looks like those leather blocks the traders have on their caravans. I'm with LadyWYT though and most of mine ends up going to trade goods. No doubt later down the line we'll get even more uses for it. Especially with all the new clothes coming out. 3

I keep forgetting that leather is a decorative option now. I'll probably end up using it in some chiselwork or simple base decor, if I don't forget about it again. 1
Michael Gates Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 You can make the black leather face mask, that uses up two whole leather bits AND makes you look like you're working on the whole gimp suit! 1
QueenGeeBee Posted March 5 Report Posted March 5 Would be cool if we could make leather belts, quivers, or tents or whatever. Leather making is such an intricate process that I just want more stuff to craft with it, but im hard pressed to come up with many ideas. Late game its really just something to sell for money since bags dont really need upkeep and you can stay on top of clothing repairs. 1

Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to all of that. My cottage core desperately needs furnished leather! 1

Of all the things, I feel this is one that could go two ways... 1) A child of the 70s where interior decoration was still on a "come down" from the acid trip of the 60s. ..or.. 2) A child of a serial killer. 1
Teh Pizza Lady Posted March 5 Report Posted March 5 (edited) I usually just pile it up in a room and see how many stacks I can get before someone comes along and decides boots are the new thing to buy and sell at the traders. And yes, my next build will have a dedicated leather room. Edited March 5 by Teh Pizza Lady
