sly800 Posted June 25 Report Posted June 25 I've been playing a lot on a server with a couple of friends, we started playing about a month ago and just yesterday we made our first batch of steel! Now we are in the process of making some sturdy backpacks and gearing up to take on the second chapter of the story, but I've been thinking about what are some other fun projects we can start next. I've already been working on domesticating chickens and hares for a while so I'll probably start doing the same to other animal species and we've been talking about adventuring to southern regions once winter ends (and hopefully find an ocean in the way because I really want to build a sailboat) but I'd love some suggestions for things to build, stuff to explore and maybe even some fun mods we could install to bring new life into the game.
Zaph42nd Posted June 25 Report Posted June 25 Will say for me it's been fleshing out my infrastructure (decorate roads, change my dirt-paths to stone-paths, expand main-roads, etc...) and adding more details to my builds (chiseling is addictive), though I know some people prefer grand-builds for late-game

I have not even done the story missions yet. I plan to but its been est. about 1000 hours of game play in VS overall and I still haven't done it. Mainly because I had a bad habit of starting over. Regardless, to your question. If you have not been 20,000 blocks south you absolutely need to, if you have not installed the Better Ruins mod you absolutely need to. I currently have two bases with 3 more in the plans and a road system that I plan to make connecting them all, going all the way 20,000 blocks, there is litearlly a million by a million blocks to explore and it gets intresting going south of spawn Edited June 25 by CastIronFabric

Building a nice fort or mansion to live in and trying to collect the basic tameable livestock or trying to collect butterflies or all the shell varieties could also be entertaining. Maybe build a museum to display everything in?

I've never made steel (too much work I guess) and I have created a road to the first story location. I will have to make a run 20K South... sounds like an adventure! Another goal I'm making in my current world is to find crystals/geodes. Enjoy

Enjoy I would start over many times to try and get the best clean early/mid game down solid but now I am thinking: 'If I want to start over, just move far from my main base and bring whatever kick starter gear I want if any at all. I can not suggest installing Better Ruins mod before you open up too much of the map. It used to be a great mod, now its an unbelievably awesome mod Edited June 25 by CastIronFabric
rereretrograde Posted July 16 Report Posted July 16 building roads, improving bases. That stuff actually takes a long time to do unlike other block games. Most of the time I feel like I always have something to do. I guess I just havent reached steel yet, but I have a large abundance of meteoric.
Vratislav Posted July 16 Report Posted July 16 Except improving base and chiseling, there is other stuff to do, if you are not focused on building nice stuff. You may extend your reach: You can build road infrastructure, like direct stone paths to your nearby locations (mines or traders), increasing speed of movement. For distances up to 2000 blocks, making "elk rideable" paths in difficult terrain segments like forests or mountains may benefit. There are even people who build path to the first story location. You can explore nearby caves specifically for translocators and make network of connections for mid-distance travel. Translocators are frequently close to each other, so you may have chain of 2-3 translocators, reaching areas around 15 thousand blocks far, if your are lucky. If you have oceans (good chance if you have 70% and less land set up), you can build a boat, a port and explore by boat. Travel with eyes open to find rare or missing resources Do not rush during the first part of journey to the second story location, especially if you are in group. Spread and explore for rare or missing resources (e.g. exposed marble, rare seeds in ruins, or so.) Up to 5-10 thousand blocks, you may return there from the base to gather there resources effectively. If you are missing particular ore, take propick and check time from time. Travelling to the south will bring you new flowers, seeds and wood types. If you started in default climate, first redwood forest can be found up to ten thousand blocks south. You may explore all kinds of technology available and make everything is possible. Make a glider and Spoiler take it to the second story location, it will be great help in one place. You can make all four Jonas tech devices available in game. It requires nickel, coke and good amount of gold. To have fuel for them and for translocators, you can create some kind of temporal gear grinder (haven't build it, but some schemes do exist) In the second story final location, you get a device that allows you make one more Jonas tech machine, that is genuinely usable. Establish economy to make large deals with traders Grow lot of flax, breed lots of pigs with flax grain using autofeeder (chest -> chute -> trough). Then 1) flax -> flax twine -> linen -> profit, 2) pigs -> leather -> profit. Learn the best things to sell. E.g. use flax twine either to sell directly, or to make required product (linen, linen sacks, boots or so) on the spot. Find around 10 traders around your base up to about 2-3000 blocks far. Establish convenient round trip to make deals, that may be done in 1-2 days by elk riding. You may make paths or use translocators to reach good traders. Find what all traders on your round trip want and expand your portfolio accordingly. Bronze tools that do not require smithing are quick to make (axe, shovel, pickaxe, hammer, hoe) and can be sold for 4-6 rusty gears. Make all three kinds of bronze and take only tool heads to the trip, as they can be stacked. Colored linen (blue, brown) and leather (orange, black) is usable for items bought by clothier and other traders. Agriculture trader buys soya beans that are durable and otherwise not much usable. You may try more demanding stuff like lanterns, if you need some quick money, but this stuff is not very suitable for repeated trading as it is time consuming to make it. Some people take flour and fireclay oven next to traders who buy bred and make it on the spot, but it is rather mid-game approach. Then you may buy various stuff and go to the next step. Focus on luxuries Buy broken Forlorn Hope armor and repair it to the perfect condition (requires quite amount of gold) Make full plate armor from meteoric iron (shiny!) If you have a tailor in your group, let's make him/her all kinds of nice clothes and colored fitted gambeson armor. After you are rich thanks to established trader economy, buy all kinds of luxuries from furniture, artisan and luxuries traders to decorate your base neatly. Also, after you finish second story location, Spoiler you may return there more easily and do shopping spree in the village. And there are more things to do I haven't mentioned for sure. 2 1
Liefeling Posted July 16 Report Posted July 16 If you're a hardcore completionist you could go for collecting all the butterflies / flowers / fish. Once you have a good economy set up you could try to get an albino elk by buying a shit ton of them from traders ? (the odds of getting an albino are like 2%) Even if you're not at the point of doing these yet, they take quite a bit of preparation and setup so it's good to have them in the back of your mind while playing. 1
Demoncyborg Posted July 16 Report Posted July 16 i always end up trying to collect all of the fruit and foods (just to have them at one point) in the game. at some point i really want to graft an all apple variety tree though. 1
